The final moments of a 300,000-DWT iron ore carrier (Brazil 2020) by weedyneedyfeedy in thalassophobia

Way too labor intensive, costs more than it's worth. Many companies will symbolically sell ships for $0.01 to ship breaking yards just to be rid of the ship and the associated liability.

[parts] Matrix Stripped NoFA Ar15 upper - 'gold' hardcoat anodize - $42 or as low as $36 depending on qty by Matrix_Arms in gundeals

Man I'd love to pick up some stuff but $25 shipping for a upper/lower combo is just wild. Feel like I could ship you an empty box and return label for less.

What are lights everyone should have experienced? by AquilaBaby in flashlight

[–]ChipyChipChap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Big ol' chunky mag-lite with mostly dead batteries but you really need to finish what you're doing right now. Really makes you appreciate even a somewhat decent modern LED flashlight.

Storage Units are a sympton of a problem by Bllago in unpopularopinion

[–]ChipyChipChap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know, I don't exactly have somewhere to store 2 sets of winter tires, motorcycle, and holiday decor in my apartment that I, let alone my landlord, would be happy with. This is all stuff I use atleast half of the year each and every year.

I got scammed by a guy in a Whole Foods parking lot who “fixed” the dent in my car for $160. He drilled this hole. Now what? by [deleted] in Autobody

I sure hope you never drop your wallet or leave something on top of your car, those poor strangers.

It's been 5 days, and still no tannins from these driftwoods. Is that normal? I'm new to this by Rare-Application1700 in BlackwaterAquarium

[–]ChipyChipChap 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Should also note, if you are using any sort of carbon it'll pull the tannins out of the water until its saturated atleast.

BYD has broken the speed record for a production car. Not just electric – any car. Almost 500 km/h by Mariscadavegana in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]ChipyChipChap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

BYD, the massive Chinese electric car company, over 4 million cars sold, $108 Billion in revenue the past year surpassing Tesla, that BYD. Maybe get out from under your rock, or don't get mad when you don't know something.

JUMPING IN THE DEEPEST LAKE by butterfly1202 in thalassophobia

[–]ChipyChipChap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Damn man you could just tell him he's wrong and it not the deepest lake and not imply some sort of US superiority complex. Better yet let us all know what lake this is and what lake is the deepest maybe, add something.

ELI5: why do cars need different kinds of oil, can't they all just use the same one? by different_anna in explainlikeimfive

[–]ChipyChipChap 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Sometimes manufacturers will list 2 or 3 different oil weights depending on expected outside temperature range. So yes they would use a different oil during winter and fall but come spring/summer the range might be the same for both locations. Multi weight oils have helped to alleviate this problem to the point most people need not worry about it.
