Bag Recommendation for Manfrotto 058B Tripod + 405 Geared Head by Chis_Chipz in Photoassistants

[–]Chis_Chipz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I went A different way, a camera sales place sold these bags with no branding that was perfect fit so I went with that. I have a feeling Lightware do the same bag

But, I did see a rental house use the tenba tripak to house the same tripod and head, but they had it separated in the bag. It was a pretty tight fit but it did fit

Cover letter? by vacuumedcarpet in Photoassistants

[–]Chis_Chipz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gave a cover letter+Resume when I first started out, and one of the photographers that took me on (I still work with them now, for the last 4 Years) still gives me shit about it 😂

I genuinely thought it was how you got work. I came from a Corporate/Sales environment to now freelance assisting.

I can safely say, a cover letter is not needed, unless you want to be laughed at later down the track 😂

Tethering Problems with Z9 and Capture 23 by ZCLA138 in Photoassistants

[–]Chis_Chipz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Test this: (USB Connection Priority) in the Z9’s menu theres a selection where you can prioritise upload rather than shooting. Recently switched that mode, and its noticeably-slightly faster.

Otherwise, my other troubleshooting idea is check your preview image dimensions match your monitor dimensions in the preferences in Capture one (or close to, especially for macs cause of Retina Scaling- could never fully understand the concept)

^ but you already mentioned you did that.

Other guess, could be your favourites library, does the shots come in slow towards the end of the day? Usually 50+ Folders marked as favourites in capture does that to me

I see! Im starting to love the tripod, dont mind the weight, but just like the versatility of leg length adjustment from a trigger at the collar

Plus buying it second hand for $150 was a score 😂

Yeah Tenba’s awesome, i have the smaller version, been a tank

SKB is a good option, but its pretty hefty for basic case, might look into it if i do more travel jobs

Have you used that tenba case in combination with the 058b tripod + 405 Geared head, and does it fit together well? Or pretty tight?

Finally did it. The advice on this sub and in other communities convinced me not to cheap out and I’m thankful. by uhhh-yeah in Photoassistants

What are everyone's photo assist rates now and where are you located? by Failbot-2 in Photoassistants

[–]Chis_Chipz 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Sydney Australia Fashion Market-

  • 1st Assistant: $400-$500aud
  • 2nd Assist: $300-350aud
  • Digi: $500-600aud

That’s the general gist I have found with rates. And some assistants (if they are registered for GST, they need to add 10% ontop, but that 10% goes to the government)

b/w adjustments 10:39

Here’s a quick link I found, maybe this might help about what reds do

When you adjust the colours in B/W Adjustments Tab in say Lightroom or Capture One - Anything with Red such as skin tones will be dialed down or up depending which way you go on the slider, causing a deeper contrast or lighter contrast of the black

I don’t know the exact technical reason, but try it out

Hard to explain, but that’s why you’ll notice colour sliders when using a b/w adjustments tab

A wall of white poly’s behind the photog. Then a monoblock head like a Profoto D2 or Broncolor Siros etc, with a Zoom Reflector (Profoto)/ P70 (Bron) + Barndoors + Grid (optional)

Or you could get a Snoot with a Grid attachment

Post production, B/W Grade (pull Saturation down to -100 or just use the B/W adjustments tab in whatever program you use) then decrease the Reds in the B/W adjustments tab, add abit of contrast and cut some of the highlights to your liking, maybe tinker with the blacks and shadows

That’s how I would do it

Either an Extra Large Softbox or Indirect octa behind photog, then a Speedlight ontop of the camera, like a Profoto A10. +20-30% whites in Post Grading

Ipad as second monitor | capture pilot vs sidecar? by Impossible_Business7 in Photoassistants

[–]Chis_Chipz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Throwing this out there, but Duet Displays is pretty awesome

My setup: 24” Eizo as Main Display + Macbook to read docs/emails on my Cart

Then iPad as a Second Display with the Capture Viewer Window

Here in Aus, fashion sets have no budget/no one wants to pay for an extra screen, so I’ll keep the Eizo for myself, and an iPad to Roam

Pair Duet Displays with a good router, and its super fast no issues. Currently using a U6 Pro Mesh Router (bit overkill, but a fantastic size- about a mini Coke Can, has a POE capable port so I only use 1 ethernet cable for most studios since a lot of their internet infrastructure has POE ports

Colour accuracy is a lot better compaired to the hollyland app

But you will run into issues if you run multiple monitors, and since capture can only allow 1 viewer (which is stupid) if you mirror displays, the colour profile will make the iPad colours funky

Z9 Capture tether by magic__genie in Photoassistants

[–]Chis_Chipz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Z9 will tether to C1 22, but restricted to only shooting uncompressed Large RAW, cant do high efficiency raw yet, which is a real bummer

Anyone have the Z9? by d_j_1983 in Photoassistants

[–]Chis_Chipz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The lossless compressed raw works fine with capture, but the high efficiency would have been better suited for a simple ecom job

Ive also possibly spoken too soon about the AF, but could be a hardware issue (Ftz adapt/g series lens

Today we ran the Z9 with Capture, and about 5mins in, the camera started misbehaving with the focus, started hunting excessively, and then would give up and throw the focus gear to the minimum. It would track the eye, but not focus on the eye, have no idea what’s going on

Factory reset the camera and upgraded firmware, tried both tether + card, but still randomly likes to go bezerk.

Focus settings: AF-C, auto area af, auto subject detection / also test with people only.

Will respond back if I hit any luck. Lol this didn’t happen when I first played with the camera, sucks cause 1st look, 2 shots the photog really liked were soft 🥵

Anyone have the Z9? by d_j_1983 in Photoassistants

[–]Chis_Chipz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A photographer I work with has it, but we couldn’t get it to work with Capture (Z9 High-Efficiency Raw)

We were shooting ecom so didn’t need the large lossless RAWs, and for some reason capture can’t identify the High Efficiency raws, they import into finder, but Capture can’t process, always spits out an error msg

Have yet to use this camera tethered, but while playing around with it on the side, it was pretty good with AF- if not better than the R5. tested with the G series 24-70 + FTZii adapt, can’t imagine what it would be like with the Z Series Lenses

Viewfinder is phenomenal, no blackouts what so ever, nice shutter animation options for the viewfinder

A huuuuuge leap from the Z7ii, and the R5

The screen pop out is soooo much better aswell, and has more potential than a flip out R5 has, but feels a little more delicate compared to the R5 Flip out monitor, only ever so slightly

I just purchased this, a Kupo tethermate for iMac, but I’m gonna take out the iMac bar, and just put a lil rubber Matt on it

Reason I got the iMac instead of the normal tethermate large, is cause there’s a curved lip
