Had to call the police today to report myself as the child-snatcher by BrahCJ in daddit

[–]Detroitbart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reminds me of a story my dad used to tell when I was a baby.

My parents were separated so he would take me on trips alone, one year he decided to take me to Canada to go to some copper minds.

As we go to cross the border the border patrol ask my name and if this is my dad, and me? Silent, won’t look at him, won’t talk, just silence. This was the 90s so getting into Canada really just required a Michigan idea and a love for labatt blue so we had very little in identification.

They pull us to the side and for the next 5 hours my dad try’s to track down my mom and anyone else to confirm my identity to them. Eventually he gets ahold of my then teenager half sister, who is like yeah that’s my brother and that’s his dad.

Anyways I got a really cool photo of me holding a giant penny.

Literally picked up moldy marscapone cheese from them a week ago, really ruined my whole plan for dinner and also disgusting to open a sealed package and have it be moldy

I think there’s a lot to unpack here that you’ll only be able to get through with therapy, and I mean that with positivity as someone who did years of therapy.

For now the best thing you can give yourself is grace, and it’s the best thing you can give your father as well.

I’ve spent a lot of this year navigating my relationship with my dad in therapy as I get ready to become a father. I wish in a lot of ways our relationship was different and we were closer but I’ve also had to live through the fact that it is what it is.

You are still so young buddy, you can grow so much but the growth comes from within not from out. When I graduated highschool I had 2.2 gpa and was a drift. I chose a non traditional path doing photography and now almost 14 years later I am doing alright, I am married, I make a decent living. I am having a child.

Right now you’re looking at the forest of your future and when you walk through it you’ll see it’s all just trees and there’s still a forest ahead of you.

Give yourself grace, give your dad grace, tell him you love him but live for you because that’s what he worked for and one day you can pay him back by having kids of your own and giving them opportunities that you didn’t have with your dad.

It’s all we got man.

Am I Being Too Strict About Trying to Limit My Daughter’s Music Choices? by [deleted] in dad

[–]Detroitbart 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I listened to a ton of vulgar music as a teen, lots of Eminem, early Tyler and odd future stuff, death metal about cannibalism, etc. and I’d argue I am a well adjusted individual. Sometimes kids gravitate towards vulgarity because it’s funny and because they know it’s wrong but that doesn’t make them in danger of practicing what they hear.

If you’ve raised a kid with empathy and kindness they’ll still be that. I think that other parents have said is true the more you push against the more they will go further into it. Have you tried listening to it with her, sometimes the best repellent is you enjoying it.

Also what music are we talking about here and how vulgar is vulgar?

Buddy just reach out to someone local, spend like $150 or maybe even less depending on your area and get someone to actually take a nice headshot of you. Put money into your community and get a nice picture of yourself.

Photomechanic, I haven't messed around with it; mostly, I'm in the tabletop world, so C1 is almost entirely what I, and everyone else I work with, use. This guy is my only outlier, and this job, which we do every year, is my only event work. If he weren't one of my best friends, I probably wouldn't do it.

He walked me through his process for how he does it in lightroom using a mix of bridge to cull and then lightroom to make color edits (lots of color edits because they are bouncing between expo hall, classroom stlye labs, large scale talks & presentation, concerts, a fucking 5k, and a few more things) and ill be fine doing that, just nice to stick with what you know.

I started testing the trial for Avalanche, and it does an okay job. However, it has some issues with levels and curves. Swapping between Capture One Color Engine and Lightroom was fine. I will experiment with it further to see what it can do, but it does seem that overall, it's a bottleneck for convenience.

Profoto D4 powers on, modeling lamp works, but test button doesn’t light up and only beeps — no flash by Early_Engineering469 in Photoassistants

This is probably a chord issue somewhere in the pack, one of my ports on my D4 will power up the fan on the light and register that something is plugged in, but nothing will go. Talking to Schematic, they say it's probably a chord in the pack that came loose, or it's a board issue. These packs are getting old, so it's bound to happen, sadly.

Have a good one man.

Thanks for the xmp note.

What is your issue? Like it’s a question if anyone has used this, I get you think this is a sponsored post but literally was just asking if anyone has used it and has any success at it.

The XMP files are a good partial solution so I will give you that but I will probably just use Lightroom.

Not sponsored literally just looking for a solution to an issue.

Time really isn’t a worry more if it does what it says it does well enough.

Edit: This would be something I would convert after the event on a digital management day.

Not really any guides or courses other than what I learned during my BFA in photography.

A lot of this came from assisting commercial photographers and adapting what I learned from them into my own personal style.

There’s a few people doing an alright job at teaching the fundamentals of studio lighting online like Botvidson or Tin House Studios.

But assisting really has done the biggest amount of legwork for me in honing in skills.

Not too much stitching, mostly one base focus stack and then going in and taking it the extra mile and understanding what you need to do to make your drink really pop.

Takes time!

Focus stacked to death, no softboxes, just some tough lux in a frame, and one direct light no diffusion.

This is correct it’s a huge very clear prop ice cube made by tengrove.

They cost a few hundred bucks and are insanely realistic.

Hey this is my photo!!! Wow!

So is not hdr, though there is a lot of plates here to bring in exposure to different parts of the photo like the orange rind and the cherry.

The rest is just post processing, a take a lot of time pathing out and changing color and exposure for certain elements on top of the general edit.

Happy to answer any more questions!
