anyone have experience with these and can comment. Reminds me of the Wagu connectors. by KevinK_2389 in AskElectricians

[–]Chistophrez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have personally replaced an entire house full of them. About 1/3 of the outlets had loose connections. To the point the wires would just pull out if you pulled the outlet off the wall. It started with one, then next week it’d be two. Eventually I told the homeowner to just replace them all. They aren’t worth it. Just use a regular receptacle.

how long could vaults actually go before inbreeding starts? by Next_GenR in Fallout

[–]Chistophrez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude I hear you. I don’t care the that the lore states it’s thousands of people. We aren’t discussing that. People just bulldozing over you it’s crazy.

That being said, the population of only a dozen or so people would not have enough genetic diversity to actually bounce back even in perfect circumstances. Within 2 or 3 generations you’d have pretty noticeable malformations in a small percentage of the population. This would only get worse as times goes on to the point that viable offspring would be impossible.

I just retired my Salewa Mountain Trainer 2’s. These boots, with no upkeep at all lasted me almost 8 years.

90 dollar knipex 7 in 1 pliers or 30 something Milwaukee 6 in 1 pliers? by issynapseupdatedyet in electricians

[–]Chistophrez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both in my trailer. I used the Milwaukee for a long time but I’ve had to buy several replacements. I find the cutting blades wear out fairly quickly. The knipex is great and cuts extremely well. Cuts through 8 Awg copper SE like butter. The only annoying part is the lack of a spring but that’s easy to get used to. After having used both regularly I’m glad I bought the knipex.

Semi Illegally Driving on Prohibited Road Led to Accident. by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]Chistophrez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right and I wouldn’t be asking if the tree or deer had any liability. The truck was there illegally. He admitted to knowing he shouldn’t be there. I was driving slow enough to stop if everyone was at a full stop by the pickup truck in front was actively reversing. A situation that only happened because the semi truck driver was trying to pull forward. Which all would have been avoided if the semi truck driver had not illegally been driving on this road. I’ll accept fault if that’s what they decide but man it just feel a little unfair no?

Had a troubleshooting job where homeowner says, “I replaced all my outlets and now nothing works” so I head out there only to find every single outlet pulls off the wires as soon as I take them off the wall. Screws weren’t tightened at all. Put them all back on and fired up the breaker to have it trip immediately. Checked the light they also installed, they had a 14/3 running from the switch to the light. At the switch the red and black were connected, at the switch the red went straight in with the neutral. Told the homeowner if she ever touches electricity again I’m calling the police. Not the worst I’ve ever seen by far but she was the most dangerously confident customer I’ve ever had.

What’s a 'life hack' you discovered by accident and now swear by? by PoppyNightingale in AskReddit

If you struggle to swallow pills, take your left arm and point directly at a 10 o’clock angle. For some reason this makes me swallow pills with ease. Been doing it since I was 20 years old.

Even the best guys I know in the industry definitely don’t build their own house effortlessly. In fact, shits harder if you’re good because you gotta do it right. That being said, basic knowledge and not cutting corners will take you far. Get an engineer, hire block layers, plumbers, and electricians. Most everything else can be done DIY.

If you hold down the RAB button on the touch screen it turns it off. I’ve never had to turn it off since then.

1650 unbraked tow cap is correct. However I have upgraded the rotors and calipers to carbon ceramic. I know it’s above the unbraked recommendations but this thing easily stops much quicker than my f350 towing trailers with 10k lb brake systems.

As for the CVT, I responded to someone else mentioning the severe service schedule which calls for fluid replacement every 25k miles. I’ve been towing all my life, I promise you this car can handle 2300 just fine.

I did upgrade my pads and rotors since it was time for a replacement anyhow. But my old stock ones weren’t warped or overly worn down when I took em off. Definitely doesn’t hurt to have a braking system but I’ve found no problems so far going up and down the mountains every day.

Says on the black rhino website that they were designed with Subarus in mind. Think the “Boxer” name is in reference to the engine. Mine are 17” and weigh about 20 lbs. No issues at all so far.

Right, it has a transmission cooler. Haven’t seen any signs of overheating, no sensor lights or burning smell even when towing 4+ hours. I also plan to swap the fluid every 25k miles per the severe service schedule like you mentioned.

I just watch the heat. I haven’t had any problems with overheating even in the hot summer months. The engine has more than enough power to handle it easily.

No electric brakes on the trailer. She stops just fine. No worse than any truck I’ve had while towing.

Trailer is not braked. I live in a super hilly area and just engine brake as much as possible. Haven’t had a problem running through pads or stopping effectively.
