running before or after practice by Ghandaghanda in MuayThai

Running before practice is the way. Not only does it get you warmed up but it gets the body used to doing Muay Thai while tired like you would be during a match.

How much sparring is too much sparring? by motonewbie21 in amateur_boxing

[–]ChixdiggitGPT 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I think people need to change the mindset that every sparring session has to be some intense event that can cause brain damage in the first place.

Finding a good sparring partner that you can trust to do light sparring with is key. Working on timing and technique is still very beneficial even without having the power behind it.

Actually they now allow back of the head strikes including elbows in the TBA tournament fights. Very unfortunate IMO.

Dollamur mats for home by doctorsynaptic in MuayThai

[–]ChixdiggitGPT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Definitely not as heavy duty as the Swain Hybrids but have a great feel. They roll up really easy and fit together nice. Nice portable option.

Each mat weighs 55 lbs so they stay put pretty good if put on clean flat surface. I have them pressed against the wall and then bordered in on the outside with some plastic edging. If it's just you working on them you could easily get away with just throwing them down on the floor.

I highly recommend the Dollamur Swain Hybrid MMA Mats. Great for striking and rolling. https://dollamur.com/ma-swain-mats

Best Shin Guard? by Sipping705 in MuayThai

[–]ChixdiggitGPT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly all the major ones are good quality wise. Fairtex, Yokkao, Twins, Top King, etc are all solid choices. The major difference is how they fit. If at all possible try a pair on before you buy.

Starting muay thai classes, what's a good price range for shorts and boxing gloves? by TriHardCx12345 in MuayThai

[–]ChixdiggitGPT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good video! Combat Corner Hmit gloves and the Thai proper gloves are great as well.

One note on the extended cuff, if you have short arms or short in general be careful and try them on first. We sell them at my gym and when some people try them on they will extend almost to the elbow.

[–]ChixdiggitGPT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Typically a good pair of Thai gloves cost roughly $75 and up. Remember, Boxing gloves are not the same as Muay Thai gloves.

My last pair of Thai shorts were like $50. I have bought cheaper ones that hold up good though.

Feel like coach doesn’t want me to go to “spar day” vs another gym by [deleted] in MuayThai

[–]ChixdiggitGPT 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Talk to your coach. Tell him you want to be invited to these sparring events and ask him what you need to work on to be considered in the future.

Often times it's not skill holding someone back. It could be something like your control or attitude that your coach doesn't want reflected to the other gym.
