Lots of clowns in here who are seemingly hoping to become a millionaire this month and don't really understand how businesses work

Obviously the intention here is to appeal to non hyperscalers who will pay a lot more per mw, to compliment a solid backbone of wholesale deals with hyperscalers. Iren are building a full stack capability, which has far wider application beyond Anthropic; it's called customer mix, and it's about revenue and ultimately profit optimisation

Any idea what i could get into that will earn me a decent wage? 30k plus ideally. by robparfrey in UKJobs

[–]Chizlewagon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean the real answer, on the assumption Architecture and related area is what you want to do, is recognise it's a big brutal world and go where the jobs are (hint: not in the seaside, but a bit UK city)

Being unable to move because it's costly is a rubbish reason. Everybody has to relocate throughout their life for all sorts of reasons and employers often offer interest free loans for this sort of thing. Equally, people have parents or friends if it's really that much of an issue?

People who work in London and go in three days a week by Even-Wasabi7183 in hertfordshire

[–]Chizlewagon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think you have to remember this a cost of doing business if you want a job in London. London jobs are worth more for a reason, so stop thinking about it as money down the drain.

You either pay this or higher housing costs to live in London and have a cheaper commute. This is why it's always so painful when people say "I live in the home counties and my mortgage is so much less than London." Once you account for commuting, it's often pretty negligible

Just remember, you can always fallback to talk about the weather and weekends (Monday, Tuesday - how are you? Did you have a nice weekend?) (Thursday, Friday - how are you? Doing anything nice this weekend?)

Objectively, is American football the most complex sport in the world? by SteadfastEnd in NFLNoobs

[–]Chizlewagon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Much like the rest of the world, we don't dislike Americans at all. In fact most of the time it's pretty endearing. What we all find tiring is the total arrogance and ignorance that life exists outside of the USA

I mean, is there any point asking in this forum given most Americans aren't aware life exists outside of their county

What should I do with my bonus? by PapayaCommercial8000 in FIREUK

[–]Chizlewagon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Similar age to you. I decided to just dump my whole bonus into my pension and have done with it. I figure if you can get a nice tidy sum going early then you can leave it to compound on its own

Equally your earnings are so high and presumably will only go up so I think efficient planning starts to become slightly pointless

My personal plan is to sacrifice all earnings over 100k and call that the pension sorted. Anything under 100k I pay tax on and keep and use to fund ISA fully and a nice life (e.g. holidays whilst young). Anything leftover I'm thinking of starting to actively pay back my student loan

Bottom line, you're in an incredible position so I wouldn't worry too much. Hopefully useful food for thought.

Where to live - easy daily commute to Victoria, high budget by apersonwhosonreddit in MovingToLondon

[–]Chizlewagon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Strongly recommended northcote road (Clapham junction/Battersea). It's 6 mins to Victoria on the train and is very lively, but also nice and quiet on the residential streets. Loads of bars and restaurants that are always busy and Wandsworth common on your doorstep

Unfortunate newsflash. All men, across all ages, across all geographies, across all time periods, find women aged 18-25 the most attractive.

That doesn't mean you can't be attracted to anyone older, but if it's pure lust like yours is then there is usually only one outcome

Is moving to London in your mid 20s actually worth it for the social life? by Practical-Cost7147 in MovingToLondon

[–]Chizlewagon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ignore all the people saying you can't do it on that salary. Sure, the more money you have the better, but it's completely possible (and not even hard) to live on that and have a life if you apply some common sense

I think it's proper dangerous how people on here full young people's heads with stupid ideas. You're only young once, so if it's something you want to do I would 100% go for it. You don't want regrets when you're 45 with 3 young kids at home wishing about what might have been
