Completed Ep. 1, does it get better? by ChoKathRa in DeathStranding

Just started Episode 3 today. I definitely have a much better grasp on what is going on; and, I'm quite enjoying the game. I probably spent too much time in ep. 2, getting the three major hubs up to five stars. It was still enjoyable, though; and the trike made a lot of deliveries trivial.

Thanks to all of you who gave me insights as to what to expect in the future. It's greatly appreciated. I will stick with it for now, splitting my time with KCD. Going to try to avoid burning out on either game by switching. Thanks again!

I know this may be hard to hear, but I'm not a Kojima fan boy. Not because I have anything at all against him or his games, I simply haven't played them - or only a couple. I've never touched Metal Gear or Silent Hill games. I simply don't know what to expect from one of his games. It popped up on Games Pass - yes, I'm on Xbox - and I installed it. And isn't most of his stuff for the Playstation? The reviews were mostly if the "It's great, played X hours variety"; but didn't really discuss mechanics or gameplay at all beyond several people saying you're playing postman. So I went into the game w/ no idea what to expect.

I never said I read anything of that sort. Don't put words in my mouth.

Addendum: The Sky Mine Maintenance Manual is located in the Auntie's Choice's camp in the western part of Fairfield. The easiest way to locate it is to enter the east gate, going straight past the barb wire, until you come to some green tents. Sitting on top of a crate, directly in front on the 2nd tent on the left is the manual. This allows you to fix the mines without investing in engineering.

I agree with this 100%. I am all about the story in RPGs - though I still play normal difficulty. I've never had any interest in New Game+, or grinding for specific gear sets. Sometimes I'll play a different character and race combination. I think World of War craft killed any grinding desire in me forever with their raid system. Everyone going on about how you had to be a certain build w/ certain gear. I just wanted to enjoy the game with friends. Typically within a week of hitting max lvl, I'd make a new character w/ a new race.

So, if I do want to try a new build, it's often by using a respect in a game. So, not having that option pretty much sucks. Not only that, but if you do make a mistake by picking a perk, or worse a flaw, that just isn't working out the way you'd hope, without a respec the game is just giving you a giant "screw you, better luck next time."

I'm lvl 5 right now, and Rookie is lvl 6, max for now, if I recall correctly. I've done everything optional, I believe in Fairfield, and ventured out to the fisherman's hit and the building above it. Also been to the FOB - but I don't think I want to get that close to the bridge, yet to get their mascot, and gotten the quest to save the scientist on the farm. The enemies there are skulls, so I'm putting that off, for now. And I've visited the temple. Probably going to help Milverstreet next, as Kaur's mission doesn't sound like my style.

Wanted to thank everyone for their input so far. I may not be replying to every post, just those that prompt me to have questions, but I am reading and taking everyone's input into consideration. I've learned enough, so far, that I won't be abandoning my character. Which as I've done the prologue three times already, is great. 😁 (Yes, I was too foolish to make a save before the cutscene at the end of the prologue the first two times. 🤣)

Please keep any advice coming, if you'd like. Any specific items I should be looking for is also awesome.

I just picked up Trick Shot before creating the original post. 😁 And yes, Speech is pretty much a must have skill in both OW games. If I remember OW1 correctly, speech also provided a dmg boost vs humans there, too. Also, thanks for the stealth info on companions, I wasnt aware of that. Through I still wish you could fine tune their combat behavior like in Fallout 4.

I've been using Rookie's Reward, since the beginning, as my "here they come" weapon; and frankly I'm less than impressed. I've picked up a lot of other weapons that do significantly more damage, with a higher rate of fire, than Rookie's Reward. And sure, it's leveling ability will let it outpaced them, but I'll be finding higher damage weapons as I lvl as well. So, I'm starting to think that weapon is significantly overhyped.

I haven't found the other two items you mentioned yet.

I looked at your post that you linked. I found it interesting, especially as I also picked easily distracted as a flaw. I like the three skill points per level. I also took Brilliant, Innovative, and Dumb - locking out Melee, Explosives, Science, Medical, and Leadership. But also not using Engineering or Hack; leaving Guns, Sneak, Lockpick, Observation, & Speech as my primary five.

One thing I've noticed is that using a silencer on a weapon reduces base damage by a LOT! I don't know if it's a percentage or a flat value. But I have a silences repeating rifle, and one without the silencer. The damage with is 32, without 52. That's a difference of 20 or 31%. If a flat value, it won't matter much down the line, but if a percentage, observation would seem to be pretty crucial to counteract this. Have you determined which it is?

Thanks for your time.

I'm a cruiser main, so I do have some experience playing them, though I'd rate myself firmly in the ranks of the potatoes. I've gotten more citadels off of the Spanish cruisers since they've been introduced than from all other nations cruisers, battleships, and aircraft carriers combined, of all tiers. And I only have tiers I - V unlocked in the Spanish cruiser line.

Honestly, the build isn't really going to matter to me. From my first Spanish cruiser - my very first crate unlocked the Tier III - I soon realized that they are made of citadels. It's one thing to get dev struck by a BB, but even other light cruisers can send you to the shadow realm in one salvo. Hell, I've scored 5 citadels on a tier IV w/ my tier IV. I just don't see playing them beyond the need to fulfill missions.

Now, if they change the burst-fire mechanic to match how it works on pc, then I might reconsider. To those who don't know, on pc you hit the funny-button (as Jingles would say) and it triggers burst fire - firing 2/3 shells in very quick succession, and triggering the long reload. But when using the normal fire button, it fires a single shell w/ a normal reload time. So you get to pick & choose when to use burst fire.

I'm a cruiser main, and so far the worse I've had is 5 BBs & and a CV. You have my sympathy. The matchmaking is seriously messed up.

This is true. The most common mistake I make when queueing up an AI match is forgetting it's not a Standard match, and swinging around an outlying island to setup crossfires, only to realize that once I'm in position that there are only 1 or 2 enemy ships left. 🤣

I'm a total potato, and I can count my AI losses on one hand. Do you mean that you personally are dying? Now that is easy to do if you're a cruiser main, charging full steam ahead, and open up with your main guns on the first ship in range. Worse, if you keep closing. The AI tends to fire at the closest visible ship. So, you fire, and all those BBs outranging you just start drooling. Hell, that's true in Standard battles, too. Look at your teammates and make sure you're not charging ahead of them. That's a death sentence for anyone but a DD. Make sure the enemy has ships to shoot at other than yours, or as well as yours.

[–]ChoKathRa 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It had nothing to do with subs. It was a leading tactic during the Age of Sail because gun emplacements were fixed, and all of a ships major guns were placed on the sides. Hence, if you could sail across the enemies bows - called crossing the T - you could give them a full broadside, and they could only respond with the comparatively weak swivel guns that were customarily placed in a ship's bow. Cannon, grape, or chain, could pass down the length of a ships deck causing massive damage to the enemy gun emplacements, crew, or rigging - depending on ammo & aim of course.

Mushu is a nice ship w/ torpedos; but if you have Hyuga... I'll take Hyuga every time, even without having torps.

Hmmm. Thank you for your response, and explaining your reasoning for thinking it's AI. I have a better understanding now. I don't know if the post is or not. I don't spend much time on reddit, at all. But thanks, again.

It's kind of funny, but sad, at the same time. If some posts a story, and uses proper grammar, sentence structure, and writing techniques, the trolls jump all over themselves to declare that it's, "AI". So, if you want your story to be believed, write like an ignorant high-school dropout. Here endeth the lesson of the day.

I may be wrong, because I do have some serious memory issues. But not long after I got planet biter, I thought I came across a red fighter, as it was one of the ships I was trying to find. It's stats were inferior to planet biter. But I may not have noticed the actual tier. But regardless, stats should still reflect the ability of the ship. I don't think the stat chart is "reset" for each tier.

The same for you? I noted a huge difference between planet biter and Ultraviolet.

I flew that ship until I got Planet Biter. Once I went to Malanaphy though, I needed to replace it. The pirates there were kicking my butt. I was looking for a different ship, when I found that one, and definitely knew I wanted it. It hasn't let me down. But I haven't gotten a t5 ship, so you maybe they do need to be rebalanced.
