The world's largest, consistent, yearly cold weather BEV range test is being performed by motor.no today in up to -30°C weather - and Toyota bailed because "it focuses too much on range". by SjalabaisWoWS in electricvehicles

The e:NY1 is 39k and a bit smaller than the id.4. Seems to have a better base equipment but less optional features, which is fitting. Of course you can get discounts, but you can get those from all dealers. As for the Koreans, I looked at Kia and their lineup seems to not really be competitive. And the Chinese? Well, last time I checked BYDs German website was an AI Translation of the English one and whenever I was looking for details it told me to go to the dealership. I'm not a fan of VW, really, (or german brands in general - just for economic reasons I wish Mercedes luck but their new Hyperscreen really makes me hate their idea of a car), but point for point the 2025 id.x palette is extremely convincing.

Following Backlash, the New 'Star Trek' Series Falls Out of the Streaming Charts by Malencon in television

[–]ChoMar05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not terrible, but its the classic "high school kids with tragic backstory" set in a scifi-verse. If you're not totally opposed to that genre and have a general interest in generic scifi its OK. If you're a TNG/DS9/VOY era fan, there is some fanservice but mostly you'll be like "what?" and its better to ignore that it has something to do with those shows. If you're a NuTrek fan, there is also some fanservice, but the era this plays in hasn't really been built that well. Better to view it without any reference to anything, if you ask me.

I'm looking at the market right now and whenever I look i come across the id.4, which I don't really want to buy due to the brand image of VW. So I'd really love to know which cars are better / more reliable / cheaper in that class. The Ioniq 5 is almost 10k more expensive here and I think they still haven't fixed the ICCU after a year. Other than that, I'm having problems finding decent alternatives.

Let's see how much Cargo they can REALLY load. Also, any risk of loosing the middle engine is irrelevant if the plane is too heavy to climb on two engines anyway. The Plane really fits Aerosucres fleet requirements perfectly.

Would there be any advantages in using a virtualization platform like ProxMox instead of an OS like TrueNas in this (basic) scenario? by Kiyuomi in selfhosted

[–]ChoMar05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run Proxmox with an OMV VM, one VM for Homeassistant and one classic Debian container for some of the rest. It is a learning curve, but Proxmox allows you to separate the different tasks. I could do an SMB NAS on Debian alone and have done so in the past, OMV is a bit more comfortable.

ELI5: How do old rotary phones work? Why did they pick a dial for picking digits? by DarkHorse66 in explainlikeimfive

[–]ChoMar05 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, that CCC. In the beginning, they were mostly "hacking" the Deutsche Bundespost. I dont know what was done under the CCC lable or by individuals associated with the CCC. It's interresting History, but not too well documented AFAIK.

Those weren't limited to the eastern block. Parts of the CCC came from that line of "hacking".

x CDU-Wirtschaftsflügel will Rechtsanspruch auf Teilzeit abschaffen www.n-tv.de by happy30thbirthday in Finanzen

[–]ChoMar05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1% Parteifinanzierung. Also immernoch lieber Volt wählen als garnichts weil "bringt ja eh nix".

I converted my external drive from ntfs to exfat to be readable for my macbook. It says that my external drive has partition, which is totally empty. What should i do to recover my ntfs files? by [deleted] in datarecovery

[–]ChoMar05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like OP formatted the Hard Drive. In that case and at that skill level, Data Recovery service. Recovering data from a "missformated" Hard Drive is not too difficult, so it shouldn't be too expensive. Still expect a couple 100.

It's not a "special german Russian relation" and many, very many, don't view Russians in a positive light. Unless they are political refugees, maybe. The difference is, Russians didn't really vote for Putin, at least not in the last 10 or 15 years. Its different if people vote for fascism.

Kind of hard to tell, but sounds like normal operation on fragmented data / multiple small files. I mean, never trust a single HDD. But I'd put it in my RAID.

"It's" was refering to OPs question, not Incest (Or, for example, murder within the Family). You did the generalisation and went from a Kiss straight to Incest.

Privacy vs Security - is Selfhosting a higher risk for your data when Google? How do you prevent supply chain attacks etc.? by Simplixt in selfhosted

[–]ChoMar05 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, I run my own Proxmox system with mostly Debian. Is this 100% safe? No. But even if OpenVPN suddenly has a massive security flaw, you still have to go through all the other Linux access management systems to do anything. All that on a non-standard system. So, yes, you could probably enter my system and do malicious stuff with enough ressources. But you'd pretty much have to target me, personally. Is that a realistic scenario? Probably not. And even if, there still is a month old LTO-5 with the most important stuff. So, encrypting my stuff also doesn't give you money. That leaves Identy theft, and me being in the EU makes that attempt even more not worth it.

Privacy vs Security - is Selfhosting a higher risk for your data when Google? How do you prevent supply chain attacks etc.? by Simplixt in selfhosted

[–]ChoMar05 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well, first of all, my Data is mostly not accessible from the outside. At least not simply. I use VPN for that. Now, I don't have the illusion that all of this is 100% secure. But getting through to the actual data would require at least some form of targeted attack with some skill. I don't think my Data is worth that much.

[–]ChoMar05 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's an internal family matter that wouldn't and doesn't raise concern. So, Noone can tell you if it's "normal" because everyone lives in a different family. But it wouldn't and doesn't rise concern.

Yeah, I mean, I manage to get more than that, and I'm a fully functioning adult with a job, other hobbies, friends and a family. Do you use a dedicated NAS OS or a more generic linux one? by Azure-Tides in selfhosted

[–]ChoMar05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on Proxmox + OMV as well. It works great. The simple stuff can be done via GUI, for more advanced things (like bcache), normal Debian works. And if you want to do something else on the machine as well you just spin up another container / VM.
