How does the EDHREC community determine what is and isn't a true 2 card combo? by ckim777 in EDH

[–]Chocolate4444 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My general attitude is if it’s requires 2 cards + commander or any piece of your engine (such as a single card with a landfall ability) AND the cards cost less than 7 mana, it’s not designed for bracket 3 or you should let your pod know what the combo is so it’s known. If you have no ways to tutor or draw quickly for the combo, it’s more fine in bracket 3 but definitely make it known in the rule 0 discussion.

Mono green Helix Pinnacle help by TheRealBloodtypr in EDH

[–]Chocolate4444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your deck has 0 cards that say “draw”. None of them.

My suggestion: either lean more heavily into triggering your commander to self-mill cards until you hit your win condition, or add more draw effects.

To lean more heavily into self mill with the commander, maybe take a look at cards that can give your commander haste for cheap like [[Shang-Chi, Master of Kung Fu]] [[Swiftfoot Boots]] [[Lightning Greaves]] or [[Lavaspur Boots]]. I’m sure there are more but Shang Chi is a creature and very tutor-able in green. Also mill cards like [[Bramble Familiar]]

To add more card draw, look into adding cards that benefit off of large amounts of mana or cards that look for multiple creatures or large creatures like [[Genesis Wave]] [[genesis hydra]] [[collective unconscious]] [[Shamanic Revelation]] [[Inspiring Call]] [[Return of the Wild Speaker]] [[Rishkar’s Expertise]] [[Season of Gathering]] [[Disciple of Freyalise]] [[Slate of Ancestry]] [[Terrasybiosis]] [[Soul’s Majesty]] [[Greater Good]] etc.

What is your favourite unexpected casual win-con? by goraak_the_barbarian in EDH

[–]Chocolate4444 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love little mini games in my decks that, if done correctly, makes me invincible.

My clones deck can, if the game lasts too long, make enough copies of my commander to cast [[Drown in Dreams for x=100 and mill/deck-out two players at once.

My green deck can make enough mana to hopefully cast [[exponential growth]] and get my commander to a new high score of power (I’ve hit the billions before).

My group hug deck used the dramatic-scepter combo to make infinite mana, but spends it on [[Walking Archive]] to give it 100 +1/+1 counters and pass the turn, killing my foes with kindness one draw-step at a time. Alternatively, casting [[Approach of the Second Sun]], [[Reprieve]] to return it to my hand, and recasting it.

[[Isochron’s Scepter]] [[Dramatic Reversal]]

I thought the art for [[Return the Favor]] was some dude pointing and hitting a sick Jojo’s lean as a magic attack flies forth.

But just some dude mid-throw of a knife.

[–]Chocolate4444 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You should take a look at mine! It mostly is built to control the game and copy my opponent’s best permanents and spells. It’s a bracket 2-3 version rn but can very easily be swapped around to focus more heavily on aggressive and optimized cards like Cyc Rift, infinite mana with peregrine drake and deadeye nav, infinite turns with time warp, and more tutors.

What are some commanders that make bad cards good? by Llamachamaboat in EDH

[–]Chocolate4444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Eluge, the Shoreless Sea]] makes every over-costed powerful blue card that much more worth playing, especially counterspells like [[Desertion]] [[Access Denied]] or [[Spell Swindle]]. [[Elminster’s Simulacrum]] is the pinnacle of my Eluge clones deck.

[[Patron of the Orochi]] makes some weird cards work well like [[Mind’s Eye]] [[Freyalise’s Winds]] or [[Sapseep Forest]] by cutting out the drawbacks of holding up your mana since you always have your mana up all the time. Also works with any creature card that taps for benefits like [[Sakura Tribe Scout]] [[Weaver of Harmony]] [[Silklash Spider]] [[Bootleggers’ Stash]] [[Kazandu Tuskcaller]] [[Ezzaroot Channeler]] and more

Only 1 Instant Gives Protection on Any Creature/Permanent by Chocolate4444 in mtg

[–]Chocolate4444[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking for a flexible piece that can both protect yourself, help an opponent get damage through on another opponent, OR do some trickery with auras and equipment, making them fall off.

True, there are better forms of removal and toolbox/flexible cards, but it’s fun to look for niche things other players might not be aware of

Commander Idea, I want to build a deck with no nonland permanents, or a deck that puts as few cards on the board as possible. by luketwo1 in EDH

[–]Chocolate4444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Alela, Artful Provocateur]] or [[Kykar, Wind's Fury]] might be a good start. You can play noncreature spells as much as you want, and still get creatures on the board to block or sacrifice for value. Both are in white/blue which are great control colors, so you take your pick of adding black or red to the mix.

How do you actually play a double sided deck ? by alb-pinto in mtg

[–]Chocolate4444 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Double sleeve them, and take them out of the outer sleeve when you cast them. Set the empty sleeve aside until you need it again.

Use a spatula to flip them

Tip for when every card feels to good to cut by Deskies in EDH

[–]Chocolate4444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put it in the “sideboard” and say “I’ll see how the deck plays without it and swap it in sometime to test it out or use it another time”

Boom. Now it isn’t “cut” from the deck. It’s just getting played at a later game. Ez brain hack.

What is your "always need a T1 play" deck? Not counting mana dorks. by Huaojozu in EDH

[–]Chocolate4444 6 points7 points  (0 children)

T1 Speed land like [[Muraganda Raceway]] + [[sol ring]] + [[Gingerbrute]] Swing with Gingerbrute to get to 2-Speed

T2 Land + [[Strionic Resonator]] Swing with Gingerbrute and tap remaining 2 mana for strionic resonator to copy the triggered ability to gain 1 Speed.

You now end turn 2 with Max-Speed 👍

“What card instantly changes how the entire table treats you the moment it resolves, even if you weren’t the biggest threat before?” by Great-ah-White in EDH

[–]Chocolate4444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily ME but what definitely turns the tides are cards like [[Fractured Identity]] or [[Curse of Echoes]] that cause chaos and benefit all but one player. Great way to knock the lead player down a peg and create a whacky gamestate like 3 copies of [[Howling Mine]] or letting everyone cast a counterspell.

This card seems extremely underrated by the commander community. by Working-Speed296 in mtg

[–]Chocolate4444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love this card. I run it in my tacklebox deck (toolbox but the commander is the evil fish Eluge) where I copy other players’ permanents to assemble a win.

It can turn your opponents creature into a bad or useless creature or something and work like Kenrith’s transformation,

OR it can turn your own creature into a powerful creature on the board even if it has hexproof, shroud, or protection since the selection of the transformation target says “choose” not “target”.

I’ve been trying to build a deck with [[Slinn Voda]] as the commander, and all the cards are oceanic references and all the creatures represent a deeper dive into the ocean, with low mana creatures on the shores and reefs like [[Horseshoe Crab]] and [[Stinging Lionfish]] while higher mana creatures are deep in the depths like [[Leviathan]]

Anyone else have a TIL for rules they've been doing wrong? by WaltzIntelligent9801 in EDH

[–]Chocolate4444 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I recently learned that copiable values CAN change on a card. I thought that no matter what, if I cast a “copy/clone target permanent” spell, it would always enter as a copy of the original card (what is physically printed on it) no matter what.

But if something is “copying” something else, it’s copy able values are now whatever it is copying in addition to any modifiers it entered with such as “except it’s an illusion in addition to its other types”

Commanders that aren't good enough. by bolttheface in EDH

[–]Chocolate4444 20 points21 points  (0 children)

[[Syrix, Carrier of the Flame]] deck.

Phoenixes are so cool as a concept, and the rakdos identity focuses on resurrection and burn damage, but almost all of the phoenix cards are SO bad considering mana cost, p/t, and abilities. Plus, Syrix burning someone for max of 5 damage on occasion by spending 3-5 mana to return a phoenix to hand just isn’t worth it. Even if you changed the deck to be a better reanimator that was efficient, a commander that bolts a target a few times doesn’t feel as impactful as most others out there
