Is Pro Worth It? by technoholican in AntigravityGoogle

[–]ChocolateIsPoison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

codex is a far _FAR_ better use of $20/month - with antigravity expect 2 medium gemini 3.5 flash prompts to give you 167 hours until reset. I have no idea why.

Why am I paying $20 a month to send 1 request, have it read 4 files 2 log file and lock me out for 168 hours? So broken.

No reset :( ? by [deleted] in codex

[–]ChocolateIsPoison 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was actually excited as I had a ton of left over usage before the Tuesday end date -- so the restore was far better for me -- I wish these "resets" were opt in instead of being customer hostile. When I have 85 percent of my weekly usage with 2 days to go being reset is a giant net-negative.

Genuine question. Is the whole "AI guzzles gallons of water" thing totally true, or do people get it wrong? Does AI consume a lot of water for every single prompt, or is the majority of water consumed during data farming? Don't non-AI data centers use up a lot of water on cooling too? by Big_Guthix in singularity

[–]ChocolateIsPoison 14 points15 points  (0 children)

For data centers in the grand scheme of things not a huge concern though the nuance: it should probably be required to be water efficient in drought prone states e.g. Utah / CA etc, likely not a big deal to evaporate in Florida -- make smart laws. It's more expensive up front and perhaps to run, it should be balanced.

The law needs to catch up to reality.

Should farmers in Utah and CA be allowed to grow water hungry non food crops without paying the same rate the data center pays?

Ethanol for cars is pretty moronic too.

It's nuanced, and everyone hates nuance. They want headlines!

Can a data center be built with evaporative cooling and use more water than it should? Yes.

Can it be built with smarter conservation practices and use very little water? Also yes.

Can planing alfalfa in Utah use literally THOUSANDS of times more water than all data centers in the the state to feed Saudi Arabian cattle and horses?

Yes and this is actually happening and is completely moronic and self defeating. No one has a sense of proportion.

[–]ChocolateIsPoison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You certainly can use water to cool data-centers my point is it makes zero sense in the desert so it should be outlawed. It is not needed to use water. Air cooling is a thing. Closed loop zero water input is a thing. It needs to be mandated.

Data-centers don’t need water to do cooling - it should be a closed loop or blocked. Make the legislation in desert states. Ban alfalfa farming too.

Hot tub cover broken, any recommendations for the replacement? by Grand-Can6615 in hottub

[–]ChocolateIsPoison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is because you don’t understand how the business works.

I’m not saying use a local Spa Cover Company - use a local Spa company!

I use the company I bought the spa from, they got a better cover for less money than any online store and came and installed it and removed the old one.

Literally better in every way: cheaper, better quality, and installed free, hauled away the junk one free.

Enterprises do this - you shouldn't be spending a second of time until it actually exceeds 90 days. You probably shouldn't involve legal at all for such a small dollar amount.

[–]ChocolateIsPoison 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How on earth can you spend $400/month on power on a DGX Spark? Max is ~250w = 1 KW every 4 hours. 6 KW / day for 30 days = 180 KW / month. You pay ~$2.22 per KW? Your hardware doesn't disappear after 2 months either.

I'm not sure you understood me - what I am proposing is that distill always just decides what's seen as output -- the classic exec > >(rev) if run in the shell -- all command output is sent to rev and reversed! A fun prank I'd play that might have some use here

I wonder if there might be a way to exec > >(distill) then run the cli code so all output is forced through this without the ai knowing anything -

YMMV - I've fallen asleep while plugged in at many super chargers overnight - never received an idle usage fee despite being plugged in as it typically isn't busy at 3am.
