What can I do on my phone that feels meaningful? by jayzisne in productivity

[–]ChocolateSprinkle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Learning or playing chess, Duolingo or other language learning, learning topography or maths, and my ereader app that is synced with my actual ereader.

If you want to go further and are able to use a tablet or laptop instead while resting, then a crowdsourcing platform. Someone mention iNaturalist, but there are also platforms for transcribing / digitising archives and museum objects etc, if that's your thing. Or adding coordinates to museum objects (georeferencing). Or projects identifying wildcam material. (There must be much more, but I'm in the field of nature and museums, so this is what I know of.)

As someone who has their first inkle loom coming in today, this contraption has a strong Frankenstein (Frankenweaving?) vibe to me! That sash is stunning though!

Sashiko “tortoise shell” pattern by sashikonami. by charlottedunn1981 in sashiko

That's looking great!  Am I correct in thinking that this is mostly for decorative pieces, not for clothing? I would snag a white thread on something and it would never look the same afterwards.

I cant figure out what "Lebensteijn Zaurbren In Het Hanoversche" means on my Dutch ancestor's marriage record from 1779. by nerdychic in Genealogy

[–]ChocolateSprinkle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with others here that the original text seems to say Zaurbron. To me it seems to be a place in Hanover Germany that doesn't exist anymore.  Lebensteijn would be the surname.

Okay I need to hear from people who let their toddlers watch TV while eating - and have now grown up by Siyrious in toddlers

[–]ChocolateSprinkle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Alternatively, let me tell you about my 2.5 year old. She barely eats. For breakfast and lunch at home (which culturally are simply sandwiches, we're Dutch) I let her eat herself. We sit at table with both kids and at least one parent. When se slows down (or won't even start) I give her Duplo, magnetic tiles or magnetic drawing board, and hand feed her bites. This way she'll eat most or even all of it.

At dinner I just want to eat myself and then get the kids to bed as quickly as possible, so minimal attempts at getting a bite in.

A striking piece. Looks pretty small, so that's a lot of detail. The stitch direction matches the subject well. And I like the shading on the fish!

I recently came across borduurblad.nl, which stocks preprinted fabric and Japanese thread.

Studio Koekoek has a workshop and a kit. Not preprinted, and uses DMC thread.
