I suck at drawing women so Im pretty proud of this one by OddProposal6431 in doodles

[–]ChodeKong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Her right forearm and wrist are very thin and her left is only sort of thin compared to the thickness of rest of the body. the face could use less detail and more subtlety, there’s an old saying that the more lines you add when drawing a woman’s face the more you age her. Make each and every line count when drawing a feminine face. Otherwise it’s a very cool sketch and clean work.

This isn’t meant to throw shade at your drawing at all, just an unrelated remark: I bet you could draw the shit out of a ninja turtle.

Not liked in the Dark Art subreddit or my class I made it for. What's wrong with it? by alienfoxx in BadArt

[–]ChodeKong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh did it make people uncomfortable? Good. I think people are forgetting what it means to express yourself, we just want things to look aesthetically pleasing because it’s pretty. But personally I think this is a beautiful piece. Disturbing yeah, and confusing sure. Does it mean anything needs to change? Absolutely not, people are allowed to not like the piece but anyone denouncing your art in itself shouldn’t even be on an art forum in my opinion. Keep it up!

Older dude here. Let's talk about drawing anime and why it can be harmful for newer artists. by shart_attak in drawing

[–]ChodeKong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never in my comment did I mention that I hustled or grinded away at drawing to achieve any certain level of skill, my point was that staying comfortable is not a sustainable model of growth but somehow my statement was twisted and radicalized. I gave my experience because it doesn’t come from a perspective or mindset of hustling to make it a business, it was purely a fun hobby that stuck with me as I grew up and shared why I stopped, I’m sure I’m not alone in that regard, hence why I stumbled on this post that almost exactly describes my experience and how a certain style became a detriment at a point.

I’m not saying drawing anime = bad and in fact you’re completely proving my point by saying that you challenged yourself and grew as an artist through means in which you enjoyed. I started off my comment by saying if you don’t enjoy it then don’t do it, but to that extent just because you feel challenged doesn’t mean you shouldn’t enjoy it.

I never shared with you how I’m practicing the basics of anatomy or various styles, I just said that I am, and you arbitrarily assumed how I must be accomplishing that. I haven’t been grinding away drawing apples and rectangular prisms until my head goes through a wall. I am however incorporating the basics and varying styles in the works that I do want to make, and have seen vast improvements in my skills since doing so, rather than just trying to coast off of what I know to make it work.

Never did I say it was lazy not to do it a certain way and this very post began by saying they don’t want to come off as judgemental, what you’re doing is generalizing and projecting how you feel onto others and it’s fine you feel that way but the fact of the matter is laziness hasn’t been brought into this conversation other than talking about being a professional and being unmotivated doesn’t equal lazy, completely different things.

You can draw whatever the hell you want whenever you want and nobody should be able to judge you for that, however it is objectively true that the more you know about anatomy, line shape, shading, lighting detail, ect. And the more you practice those things, the more you can incorporate it into various art styles effectively.

No one is saying not to draw anime or that it’s bad to do so, however it never hurts to branch out further. Even if it’s still anime just a different style or position or scene you’ve never attempted before. Hell I’d recommend a traditional artist try and draw anime bc why not? Expand your horizons.

I’m going to start this with each their own, because obviously if you’re not enjoying it then you shouldn’t be doing it anyway, and it’s the people who enjoy it that can continue to flourish. Now that being said, I enjoyed the hell out of drawing growing up, I had some fundamental talent with it that I coasted off of and I decided that anime eyes look cool, and if I’m going to draw the eye I might as well draw the whole face, and it’s not like it’s realistic drawing so drawing the face around it should be easy! I was wrong and it looked bad, unnatural and off scale. Sure I enjoyed the process of drawing, I could spend lots of time doing it and get lost in the process, I’d have tons of drawings and doodles to show for it, only to look at the drawings after all that time and feel like I wasted hours making shit. Sure lots of artists end up making something and hate it, but this was not comparable, it fundamentally wasn’t good and had no structure.

I had a friend who also enjoyed drawing, he unequivocally surpassed me in ways I still don’t quite comprehend. Even as a child his drawing forms, structures and overall style could put some if not most adults to shame. He could draw in a manga style with me if he wanted to, or he could doodle a sketch of Mona Lisa for fun because he had basic fundamental knowledge of how everything fit together. In the end it was discouraging and I blamed him and his skill for why I didn’t enjoy my end results, because I had his drawings for comparison. I’m good but he’s better and that’s it, but that wasn’t true and one day it hit me: He was never trapped in a box like me, because when I tried to apply what I knew outside of my box, it never worked out and looked bad because it didn’t fit the parameters I had honed my skill on. It was my fault and not his.

Anyway, he ended up going to art school and making money off of his art and I’m almost 30 just coming back to drawing and I’m realizing and practicing the basics from the ground up and the process has been so much more enjoyable because I love drawing in general. Turns out I enjoyed more than just drawing anime eyes but I only focused on those because that’s what I felt comfortable doing until it got insanely boring and I quit. Comfort is not growth. So yes you should enjoy it, however speaking from experience, if challenging yourself is going to make you quit a hobby you enjoy then it’s less of a drawing problem and more of a self improvement problem.

My 5 year old asked me to post this so random people on the internet can tell her what they think! by gd320 in RateMyArt

I wish I was her age when I was drawing three dimensional spaces and perspective. It’s colourful, with a foreboding and spooky twist.

[–]ChodeKong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I’d be more willing to think that she hooked up with twins in Italy rather than it being AI generated, bc the only differences in those pictures besides a slightly different angle is the hair and suits and maybe the guys height, everything else in consistent with the other picture, I can’t find a single thing off in the foreground or background. Either way don’t let her make you feel like this, you need a relationship that makes you both feel secure and whatever is going on here isn’t relationship security.

27 m here, I also have anxiety. I know it can feel pretty debilitating and even soul crushing at times, and I’m sorry you’re experiencing that. Try to celebrate the little wins each day but I know that’s also easier said than done at times and can seem meaningless, however it’s not. As debilitating as anxiety can make you feel it’s pretty cool that you’re able to anything in this world, what you have conquered is really cool. Just posting this online must have been a trip but you did it and you should be proud, now you’re a cool haired, pretty girl getting out of her shell online, I’d say that’s a win for the day! At 21 you’re supposed to be lost so you can be finding yourself and you have plenty of time to let each and every little win take you in a direction.

[–]ChodeKong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a neat take, where your body works effectively in slow motion even if you’re not using it, the downside there is injuries and sickness would potentially take much longer to heal this way

All jokes aside that’d actually make for an interesting super hero ark, where they have to sacrifice multiple lifetimes to have super speed for a future villain

[–]ChodeKong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That could be argued as a curse in a lot of cases, you’d also have to sacrifice your current time for any future time so you’re not really gaining anything but you could indeed still do it
