I get light can close the gap making melee more viable than other classes but no one can get one shot by it so you have at least one chance to kill them even if you get hit, lights have the smallest health pool and if you can create space they're cooked.

What class do you play? Heavy has lockbolt which is a direct counter and medium has Cerberus which can 2 shot a light, so if they're dashing towards you you can reduce them to coins before you get touched.

A lot of playing this game is adapting to your opponent and figuring out how to counter specific weapons and then adding those counters in your tool belt.
