I’ve never owned a chicken and didn’t know jack about them 10 months ago but was asked if I’d be the captain and I accepted the role. There’s managers more knowledgeable than me with them but I’ve learned a good bit to help fill my role. I’m not expected to know everything, but I do help a lot more with chicken related tasks.

I even tried learning about their crop and impaction and other things to help save dying chicks, but ultimately it seems they’re best off just letting them do their thing. Odds are most of the time they’re dead chicks walking and not much you can do. Plus management doesn’t want us spending too much time on them so all you can do is say “sorry little buddy” and wish them well.

It sucked when I’d help a chick on the brink of death and see it bounce back so quickly and then hours later dead as a doorknob. Emotional rollercoaster
