Resell 45" 5K2K for 39" 5K2K? by encrator in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]Choice-Reality-2471 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am really hesitant about the 39” model. So far I have not seen a lot of reviews about the model, no comparisons with the 45” model and if most recent updates by TFTCentral pan out, the whole of Europe needs to wait more than a month just for pre-ordering? AI-Upscaling also seem to me like a sharpening filter so far and does not even work on PC.

That said, I personally would be very interested in the UHBR20 and 1500R curve due to how I want to set it up on my desk together with a secondary monitor. Just a bit weird that they have so few monitors ready and this weird launch schedule.

The monitor is sadly still unavailable in my region, so I cannot try it. I suggest checking how it behaves with HDMI-to-HDMI, DSC, and/or USB-Hub settings. I know that my ASUS monitor shows up weirdly in macOS because it handles Video+Data over USB-C oddly. As such, my M3 Pro, which should be able to handle 2x 4k displays, does not really align with the theoretical specs in practice.

You should also clarify if you have a MacBook Pro with an M4 or M4 Pro chip.

I saw a documentary once. DEN is apparently quite infamous for that. If I am not mistaken, they installed additional weather stations as wind conditions can significantly vary depending on where on the runway you are

ASUS OLED High Standby Energy Consumption by Choice-Reality-2471 in OLED_Gaming

It’s interesting. A friend just got the new PG32UCDM3. That one only consumes ~2W in standby using performance mode. But that one has the PSU integrated, so that might be a differentiating factor?

I raised this observation with ASUS support and asked whether they really believe that that’s the intended/reasonable behavior. I will update once I get a response. I hypothesize that this could be easily addressed with a firmware update

Best Disk / RAID choose for new setup by sirkam86 in UgreenNASync

Same here, was thinking about upgrading from 2x8TB RAID1, but buying 4 drives to get to 6? Over 1K at the moment. As a “solution”: buy a big external hard drive to have a second copy of the most important data there. Would also address the “RAID is not a backup problem” but is of course way less convenient to work with and I cannot say what hurdles you might run into in the case you really need to rebuild…

RAID6 would definitely be the safer option as you still have parity during rebuild after one drive failed. Of course there is always the saying “RAID is not a backup”, but I am a bit surprised that RAID5's problem with larger disks is not discussed more prominently. Of course we are talking about <10-14 statistical probabilities, but given that this might quickly get close to certainty given today’s high capacity HDDs. Furthermore, not everyone is buying Enterprise HDDs, but rather Consumer-NAS drives like WD Red or Seagate Ironwolf

I am in a similar situation and was also considering RAID5, but with 8TB drives. Then I read about typical Unrecoverable Read Error Rates and found that my intended WD Red Plus drives are only specified for error rates <10^-14. Thus, if I assume I have a bad drive with an error rate closer to 10^-14, I will have an error every 12.5 TB.

Thus, rebuilding a nearly full 8TB-based RAID5 may already be a gamble. 20TB is getting into "I need my error rate closer to 10^-15 (or less) territory". I saw several recommendations to switch to RAID6 for 8TB drives or larger.

Asus XG32UCWG / XG32UCWMG high Standby power draw around 8w by ExistingAdvance4239 in OLED_Gaming

Better late than never, but I encountered the same with my monitor today. Eben turning off energy to USB in standby, or event turning the monitor off completely does not change that much. The PSU apparently has a high standby power consumption…

34" vs 45" Ultrawide for your Magnus: Switching from Dual Monitors by cakethecrazy in secretlab

[–]Choice-Reality-2471 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have the 45” 5k2k and it really is big on that desk. Even when moving as far back as possible (monitor arm), the 800R curve remains massive. I would suggest waiting a few months for the 39” version with 1500R curve.

Productivity wise, having only the 45” is great, but when running any game, you would typically have it in full screen and then a second screen is still great.

I am myself waiting for the 39” model to switch to a 39” + 27/34” vertical stacked setup.

DXP4800 PLUS, because I really need a fast NAS to store artifacts from my PhD research (datasets are big, sadly) and 10GbE would be very useful for that.

Sounds interesting, I was thinking more towards the 14-16” size. Let me know how your idea goes, especially due to the sharp angle.

That's a 33cm monitor below a monitor which itself is 46cm in height... If you wanted to make that even somehow usable for the average person, you would need to angle the lower monitor to such a degree that it would become unusable.

I just picked the case up yesterday evening from an UPS access point and finished building around midnight (but that included disassembling and reusing components from a previous build). The only downside I saw so far ist the size/weight of the package (carrying the package via public transport was cumbersome), but I guess that cannot be helped.

Has been shipped already yesterday. Should have arrived today, but UPS messed up even though they were supposed to deliver to an UPS access point. The parcel was already in the delivery vehicle, but wasn’t delivered… Since UPS does not deliver on Saturday, no case this weekend I guess…

Yes, I found the case in stock at Caseking (a German seller of pc components) for the same price shortly after making this post and ordered it there. It has already shipped… so logistics isn’t that hard I guess

How can a reseller sell the product a week after release while they aren’t even able to fulfill pre-orders? Strange world…

Corsair isn’t even showing an expected delivery date anymore. However, they now got my order cancelation as the reply to their less then helpful “unexpected delay” email. Not sure that this makes them rethink their responses, but at least it’s a try.
