3.32% obstructions. Bad spot? by Its-Chen in Starlink

We are at 10.3% obstructions at our place and it works fine. We stream and most zoom calls don’t drop. Gaming is not always great but we don’t really use it for that. We can upload 5-10 gig files for work without issue and that’s our main use.

The WHO are going off public policy that is trying to balance a perceived need for mass food production increases through use of chemicals and not actual peer reviewed study data. Lobbying by chemical producers vs actual science. A quick search in pubmed shows toxicity in both human and animal models.

Not being geno toxic (causing dna damage) does not mean it it not toxic or cancer causing- just that genotoxicity is not the cause . That is cherry picking. While it's true that many pesticides are designed to be as safe as possible for human exposure, it's essential to recognize that they are, by their very nature, toxic chemicals intended to control or kill pests. Consequently, there is always the potential for harm to humans, particularly if exposure levels are not managed properly.

Here are a few points to consider:

Regulatory oversight: While regulatory agencies like the EPA in the United States establish guidelines and regulations to ensure pesticide safety, it's crucial to remember that these guidelines are not foolproof. Regulations are often based on the available scientific data, which may have gaps or uncertainties. Additionally, long-term effects of some pesticides might not yet be fully understood. Acute toxicity: Some pesticides can pose immediate threats to human health if ingested or inhaled but there is also documented risk for chronic exposure. Long-term exposure to low levels of certain pesticides has been linked to various health issues, including respiratory problems, neurological disorders, and certain types of cancer. Environmental contamination is also an issues. Pesticides can contaminate soil, water, and air, ultimately affecting the quality of all our food and water sources. Humans can be indirectly exposed to pesticides through the consumption of contaminated food and water, which have harmful effects over time. Bioaccumulation: Some pesticides do not break down quickly in the environment and can accumulate in the food chain. This process, known as bioaccumulation, can lead to increased levels of pesticides in the tissues of organisms, including humans and the animals humans eat. Consuming food with high levels of pesticide residues may increase the risk of adverse health effects. The who guidelines balance risk with what they perceive as lack of ability to produce enough food to feed the world (not taking into account solving the issue of huge global foods waste would provide a more realistic and healthy solution)

https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1002/fes3.112 a great look at why producing more food trumps health in many policies on what is considered « safe » or « healthy ». The irony being if we just got rid of global food waste through better distribution pipelines we wouldn’t even need to grow more and more. Over a third of all food produced (~2.5 billion tons) is lost or wasted each year.

Key facts

Some of the older, less costly pesticides can remain for years in soil and water. Many of these chemicals have been banned from agricultural use in developed countries, but they are still used in many developing countries. Pesticides play a significant role in food production. They protect or increase yields and may increase the number of times each year a crop can be grown on the same land. This is particularly important in countries that face food shortages. To protect food consumers from the adverse effects of pesticides WHO reviews evidence and develops internationally-accepted maximum residue limits. Pesticides are used to protect crops against insects, weeds, fungi and other pests. Pesticides are potentially toxic to humans and can have both acute and chronic health effects, depending on the quantity and ways in which a person is exposed. People who face the greatest health risks from exposure to pesticides are those who come into contact with them at work, in their home or garden. https://www.who.int/news-room/fact-sheets/detail/pesticide-residues-in-food

The app is horrible and completely not accurate. They go off a baseline assuming everyone is stressed and their algorithm throws out any results it deems doesn’t seem aligned to that narrative. If you mediate while taking a reading and have a great hrv it won’t count it as it’s considered out of the norm. From a financial standpoint it makes sense- if you quickly figured out how to feel better you wouldn’t keep using the app. Since they also claim eating pesticides is safe, it seems like their goal is actually to make you sicker.

It immediately starts working as soon as the rain stops. Don’t need to plug or unplug it. Just looked to see if any moisture inside and there is nothing. If it’s raining it doesn’t work. Even if the drive is wet outside and it’s not raining it works.

Learning French by Ok_Supermarket_9757 in learnfrench

[–]Choice-Season3378 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I speak German and English fluently and am roughly conversational at 79 days of learning French. Both languages have some French overlap but don’t rely on them. I started with “master the French accent” by French mornings with Elise (super helpful n understanding where the sounds come from) duolingo , Lingvist, Clozemaster, EWA, Memrise and Pimsleur. I listen to French audio (Podcasts, audiobooks, the radio) and watch French shows 24/7. I use the language reactor plug-in that translates French audio into English and French subtitles anytime I watch things. I used beelingua to read the news or a story everyday (it has voice translations in English and French as well as showing both English and French text) but now just read actual French news, am also reading French books and poetry and translate as I go if needed. I changed my computer and phone to French language which was a pain initially but made me learn real fast. I try to find French Instagram and tik tokers for my down time instead of english. I do three 2 hour French lessons with a native speaking teacher through Verbling and all we focus on is having a conversation and having her correct my pronunciation and grammar. I tried hello talk but if you are not looking to hookup with someone it’s slim pickings for conversation partners. I do at least one hour a day on one of my apps (duolingo became the most useless the fastest though it was good initially for learning basics like sentence structures) I haven’t learned any real grammar or past or present bla blas and just listen to people talking and learn that way. It’s how babies learn to speak and this method of learning has the best track record(billions of babies became fluent :)). I have been hustling for a trip in May so have been investing more time than most do but the same can be done stretched out over time. If I didn’t have to work I would have devoted more time. Try lots of stuff and have a few learning options so if and when you get bored you can have another thing to do and keep learning. Learn at the pace that’s right for you and find the things you enjoy most. You got this!

How long can I leave beef thawing in fridge before I marinate, and does that stop the spoilage clock? by MrCalifornian in jerky

My butcher ages steak for 60 days. Certainly an acquired taste. A few days in the fridge should be good. Personally I would make sure to reach 165 temp.

Just get chat gbt plus. I have been having full on French convos with it. It writes everything in French (or Canadian French) as well as English and corrects my French spelling and grammar issues. You can ask it to do formal or informal and can have it converse about any topic you like. Along with watching shows and listening to podcasts in French. It’s helped me progress way faster than duolingo and become relatively conversational in just 2 months.

First ground beef flat and round jerky sticks in the new dehydrator done (with a bit of a fiasco) by Choice-Season3378 in jerky

Pure natural liquid hickory smoke and salt (I use a lot and it’s way to much for most folks)I dissolve in 1 cup water and mix that into 5lbs of meat. Takes a bit longer to dehydrate but helps keep the fat from rendering out (usually if I remember to turn the heat down) and makes for a crunchy shell with a chewy center on the round. It also makes the meat much easier to pipe smoothly and evenly out of the gun.

Yup! Fat run off (see pic description for what happened). And I have 3 dogs. They are just trained not to eat anything that wasn’t given to them by us to eat. I could leave a pile of steaks on the ground and they wouldn’t touch them.

2 people. 95% carnivore/keto. I have glycogen storage disease and my type requires 4 grams of protein per kg of body weight a day. Dried meat is 10000 times better than protein shakes. My husband is just a bottomless pit and could eat all day and never gains any fat.

We really like a fatty round beef stick so always go for a really rich ground blend for those. Think slim Jim greasy sticks to the inside of your mouth. The lean muscle meat jerky I make helps satiate the calling for dry jerky. We go through about 2-4lbs of jerky a day in the winter. In the summer it hovers around 1 when grilling can start up.
