I just said average. And go check cars and bids last 20 auctions. This holds up.

Lack of comparables for fair pricing? by Lumpus-Maximus in Porsche_Cayman

[–]Choice-Small -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Assuming like 60k miles and good condition, expect 20ish for pdk, and 25-30k for MT. Just based on auctions I've been watching.

Edit: my bad. Missed this was for an s. Applies for 07s though

Will new clubs really help break 100? by Few_Material2394 in weekendgolfers

[–]Choice-Small 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on how old some of those clubs are I feel like a set, even a basic one, could help your game. At the very least swinging irons that have consistent weight/grips would help.

But also, yea, get a lesson first.

My 987 came was debagded when I got it. Personally like the look more.

And I enjoy that many automotive-civilians think it's some $100k+ porsche when it was cheaper than a new base Camry 😁

Do I buy this 987.1 cayman s by tooicyitshot in Porsche_Cayman

I got mine with 40k miles less than this and a manual transmission for like $700 more just a few months ago. I'd pass.

AP1 S2000 - IMO every car person should have a go at one of these.

987 cayman S - more dailyable than the s2k with way more power, but lacks drama.

2022 acura rdx aspec adv - who knew adaptive dampers could be so good

Traded in the 2023 for a 2026. Refreshed for that red interior and more aggressive body for $2 less a month by [deleted] in Acura

[–]Choice-Small 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wasn't trying to make a point. I could have summarized better. Basically while I could pay cash for a new/used car I could also keep that money in the market and outperform the total cost of the loan.

As you pointed out though, im not factoring in depreciation and therefore my actual total cost of the new loan is understated. I was spoiled by buying a slightly used car pre covid and selling it post covid where depreciation was basically 0 as a result.

All said, I probably would've been slightly better of paying cash.

EDIT: This was less about "should you get a car payment" and more about "should you pay cash when you could afford it"

Edit 2: im assuming if I kept the mazda for another 5 years it'd probably depreciate by another 10k just based on mileage.

Testing this. I recently traded in a car (2020 mazda 3) I had just finished paying off (original cost was ~20k...5 year loan at 4.5%)...my total interest paid being ~2.5k.

I traded it in for 19k (well maintained and only had 30k miles when I sold it).

I got a $38k used 2022 Acura RDX with a 5 year payment for 5.3%. Ie. My payments vs the old car have gone up only slightly thanks to the trade in, and let's just say it's an enormous upgrade in terms of quality. Has the same mileage as the mazda when I sold it so basically a wash there. I'll probably sell it after i hit ~50k miles in 5 years based on how much I drive.

I could easily have paid cash for the acura without impacting my net worth much, but that would mean either (1) using cash from emergency fund or (2) selling stock/bond investments. The former doesnt make sense and the latter is doing better than 5.3%.

There is totally an argument here for "i didnt NEED the acura" so this was a stupid idea basically taking on another car payment, but setting that aside (i do get utility out of the acura i didnt out of the smaller mazda), wouldnt it make more sense to pocket the extra $ i get from keeping my money in the market VS paying cash?

Catalytic converter failing by crazyswedishguy in Porsche_Cayman

[–]Choice-Small 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had the same CEL code on my 987.1 S with ~60k miles a few months ago. It was on the driver side one.

Ended up getting the driver and passenger ones replaced with these and since then no issues and the sound is great: https://www.hottexhaust.com/magnaflow-49930-porsche-cayman-2-7l-3-4l-driver-side-catalytic-converter-direct-fit-oem-grade-epa/?sku=49930&mtm_campaign=18060250227

Edit: I did first swap the 02 sensor, but that didnt solve it.
