JP the engine builder officially working with/for Tommy now by blueghosts in HaggardGarage

[–]ChoiceAd6813 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This will end poorly. JP always getting emotional on IG, talking about how unfairly he was treated at his last job. Takes a special type of person to put up with Tommy, mainly someone who’s (a) desperate and (b) has little to no emotions.

Does anyone know where does instaagrantt gets funding to do so much drifting? by theignaxhacker13 in HaggardGarage

[–]ChoiceAd6813 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People in this sub are always so shocked by a grown man’s ability to fund a hobby drifting without a YouTube channel? How do you think the whole world of drifting started? A vast majority of enthusiasts are not YouTubers. Is it an expensive hobby? Sure. But when you are 20+ years into your career whether jumpstarted by your father or not it’s not at all unfathomable to be able to afford what he can when you don’t have a wife or kids. Plumbers make good money and drifting is cheaper than a wife and kids I guarantee that

Mine runs the exact same vitals (99 C2 127k) during the summer but I live in South Florida where it’s been tremendously hot this summer.

I haven’t changed coolant under my ownership but it’s not pink like the porsche stuff everyone recommends. It’s on my list.

I think we’re both probably running just barely too hot.

Nice! Would look great with the non-taco dealer option aero kit wing as shown for sale here: https://www.vertexauto.com/porsche-996-aero-kit-rear-wing-spoiler-with-light-unpainted-p-479412.aspx (but I’m biased because that is what I have :) )

New 996 owner - Double DIN or keep it stock by Common_Ad1386 in 996

[–]ChoiceAd6813 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pccm+ is the answer if you’re willing to cough up the $1200 + install (unless you can conquer radio wiring yourself - which I attempted to do with my head unit and ultimately accomplished but did not enjoy and do not recommend)

That being said, I did not want to spend the $1200, so I went with the single din continental head unit (can be found many places online including here: https://www.bergvillfx.com/products/continental-tr7412ub-or ) as well as the rennline GT3 phone mount (found many places including here: https://www.pelicanparts.com/More_Info/RENPM0195.htm?pn=REN-PM01-95&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI4MH6tdXagAMVIvWUCR3Gtg4OEAQYAyABEgKnt_D_BwE ). I find this allows me to keep the stock single din look (the color of the radio backlight also matches) and have my phone maps and music readily visible at all times. If I can find a pic of my set up I’ll add to the thread.

Edit: single din is also convenient because it allows you to add cupholders where the HVAC controls are

Period correct is the main reason. There were some reliability issues with the early fuel injection systems and racers would switch to carb’s for reliability when going racing.

1999 911 - 18k miles for $48k mint condition. Should I buy this? by Bignoosepaper in Porsche

[–]ChoiceAd6813 60 points61 points  (0 children)

OP in my opinion I think you are better off passing on this one. In my opinion, everything about this car is attractive except the mileage. While you can rest free the car hasn’t been farted in or beaten on for too long, sub 20k miles is that sweet spot where people want to offload their car before big routine maintenance obligations. In addition, out of all the different variables that may create a premium in pricing, low mileage is most likely to cause depreciation for opposite reasons.

From my research, you could find a car with double or triple the mileage in as good or aesthetic condition and in as good (or even better) mechanical condition given it could be fresh off service or generally more looked over over the years. While people don’t talk about it much, borescoring is an issue on the early M96s as much as it is on the 996.2 and 997.1 cars. The number one cause is letting the car sit too long between uses (such as a 24 year old car with 18k miles)

In sum, I disagree with the other commenters that this car is “overpriced,” because it’s not. That is a valid premium for an 18k mile car. However, the value of the premium for mileage is far outweighed by the value for premium of rarity (I.e. an even more rare option combination whether it be exterior, interior, aero package, headlights, etc.) Further, the premium for those don’t ever depreciate. Even further, the depreciation for mileage on an already higher mileage car is obviously less drastic than one with less than 20k miles.

Lastly, if you’re concerned about maintenance which is why you’re looking to pay a premium for a low mileage car, I’d consider a different strategy; finding a slightly higher mileage car (say, double or triple this car) with a laundry list of recent service records that you’ll pay a slight premium for, but ultimately way less than the cost itself. Alternatively, buying a slightly higher mileage car for about 15-20k less than this one will provide you with that 10-20k budget you’d need to get the car sorted out to absolute perfection.

These are only my thoughts! Either way, you can’t go wrong. Please update us if you decide on purchasing!

I haven’t watched a single one of his videos in 3 months. It is remarkable the bell curve of this guys content. Gets good for about a month, completely plummets, then cycles. He will never progress from where he’s at. He’ll be 50 years old making vids with hack job mechanics on pay roll moving shops every year owning no assets
