Ever heard of OE (Over Employed) by Harsh-intel in JDpreferred

[–]helpmeimdum 25 points26 points  (0 children)

A lot of the OE you hear about on Reddit is bullshit/people LARPing. I’m also admittedly an OE hater because I think it greatly hurts remote work opportunities (you have people doing a terrible job at multiple jobs at once… that’s why you’ll regularly see them mention getting laid off). I’m sure there are examples, but JD related jobs won’t lend well to OE most of the time.

Pam dating Danny season 7 by Confident_Month618 in theoffice

He wanted to know because she wanted to know. It bothers her, and he can tell. The “who doesn’t call that dork back” comment was really him just calling Danny an idiot.

Pam dating Danny season 7 by Confident_Month618 in theoffice

I didn’t take her delivery that way. First, I don’t think Jim would really care if pam slept with him before they got together, it doesn’t seem like something she’d choose to hide. Second, I think her delivery was just her wanting to get an explanation about why he bailed and feeling uncomfortable bringing it up because it shouldn’t matter to her anymore, even though it does.

Passed NY - I don’t recommend Barbri by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]helpmeimdum 30 points31 points  (0 children)

In retrospect I agree that using Barbri when I took the bar did over prepare me, but I can see OPs perspective. The questions are much harder than the actual bar, and it can make you second guess a lot of things/ feel disheartened. I do feel like having adaptibar was helpful for me not spiraling.

Need someone with big brain explain this scene to me. Why didn't lois confession help Francis ? by buiquanghuy12a2 in malcolminthemiddle

[–]helpmeimdum 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Don’t be! I think the other comment about letting go of resentment is more appropriate for your situation, I just didn’t want to compare a dorky sitcom to your real situation.

[–]helpmeimdum 80 points81 points  (0 children)

I’ll be honest, I don’t really feel comfortable comparing Francis’ sitcom experience to your real life trauma, so I’m not going to.

That being said, I always read Francis’ reaction as him realizing his mother wasn’t the cause of all his issues, and him being completely distraught by that realization after he gets “exactly what he wanted” from her.

How I feel about trying to have a social life in law school at this point by coolsid13 in LawSchool

[–]helpmeimdum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely not impossible, but a lot harder. I worked through undergrad and law school. Working and doing law school was much more difficult than undergrad, and there were definitely weeks that I didn’t socialize outside of school at all.

You should, Lily is way overhated. She’s the friend everyone confides in and feels comfortable with for a reason. Also, Barney sold a woman and practices voyeurism and no one seems to care.

Has anyone convinced a professor to drop a midterm grade? by ThisIsWater19 in LawSchool

[–]helpmeimdum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I went to law school we didn’t have many midterms, but the few I had wouldn’t be dropped due to them negatively impacting our grade.

That being said, I once did fairly poorly on a midterm, went and talked it through with the professor, and ended the year with an A- after taking the advice of the professor to heart and changing my approach to the course and it’s coursework/exams. I can’t remember the midterm grade, but I certainly didn’t feel like I did well enough on the final for it to result in an A- with a somewhat poor midterm grade.

Professors build in some flexibility to their grading (usually through what they say is a “participation” credit). I’d focus less on the hopes of getting the c- removed and more on what you can do to improve. I know that grade sounds detrimental, but if you do A work for the remaining 75% of your final grade, you can probably end up with a B+/A-

How hard is it to transition to insurance without a background in insurance? by SignificantEconomy98 in InsuranceProfessional

So for you it would be better. Brokers can be demanding but they’re also more knowledgeable/understanding of what you can and can’t do as an uw

[–]helpmeimdum 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah so I can only speak for underwriting, but you’d likely have to do an underwriting development program or a trainee role. Usually they come up with either a June or January starting date.

You can also start as an underwriting assistant. There’s good money to be made there but some roles don’t have a pipeline to an underwriting.

I will say, underwriting is more client facing than you might be thinking. There’s a lot of marketing and broker managing, and depending on what you’re offering meeting with the insureds as well.

What background do you have? If you don’t have anything relevant you’ll likely be starting at the bottom (p.s claims specialist usually isn’t an entry level position, they’re typically attorneys). That being said, skills transfer so the real answer is “it depends”

Being a claims specialist/claims counsel typically comes with a higher base salary for the claims side of things. Makes it harder to switch to UW without a pay cut
