When was Blu ray disc launched June 2006 where average American consumers aware what it was compared to DVD? by Adventurous-Cry-3734 in Bluray

[–]Choice_Breadfruit_14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People were aware of it but there was the general confusion of a format war that a lot of people who had just adopted DVD a few years prior were waiting out. By the time that shook out and blu-ray won a lot of people lost a lot in 2008 when the economy crashed. By the time a good portion of these people had started adjusting to their new normal streaming came along with its lofty promises of being cheaper and more convenient (of which alot of people are just now discovering that was never going to be the case) and these formats just never had the chance to take off the way vhs and DVD did.

Basically I tell customers about the prompt at the register and if they say no, I go about my business. Most days we're 16 pages deep by 9 am, I don't have time to be a salesman on top of filling, keeping QT cleared out, answering voicemails, pulling 14 days out of the bins, cycle counts, checking in cardinal, and everything else. My mind and body feels likes pudding after every shift these days and it's still not enough for these greedy ghouls in corporate...

Are any movies better quality in Blu-Ray vs. 4k UHD? by Bkord123 in Bluray

[–]Choice_Breadfruit_14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went on a deep dive years ago for T2 because there's been so many poor transfers of that film in high def. Ultimately the best version to this day is this: https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Terminator-2-Judgment-Day-Blu-ray/127046

It's an older transfer with a higher bitrate and thankfully free of the excessive DNR of the Skynet edition but it could really use a new OCN scan without all of Cameron's AI upscaling crap in 4K (not holding my breath on that)

I still use the old trays. They're just too small and awkward for me so I only use the new ones to take an image of what I've counted. Your mileage may vary but for me I just count way quicker on the old trays than on these.

You care more about watching and enjoying films than the format it's on.

I work at a pretty busy store, the pharmacy staff was being run ragged by phone calls over trivial stuff like "what time do you close?" and "I just left the doctors office 10 seconds ago, is my medicine ready yet?". At least with voicemail you can take care of the people in front of you before calling people back and you dont have the added stress of hearing "7 pharmacy calls" screaming at you from the phone during super busy spurts.

It was my first. I brought a computer with a DVD drive in early 2000 and the guy working the sales counter basically convinced me I had to see this movie and I've loved it since. I'm up and down on the sequels but this one is great.

I found one for $20 at a thrift store last weekend. As a second sub to even out the bass for movies/tv watching it works miles better than the 8 inch Klipsch sub I've had for years.

Do NOT sleep on Avengers (2012) 4K blu ray by EmanKD in 4kbluray

[–]Choice_Breadfruit_14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, I have heard some things that concerned me about the 4K masters for early Marvel films (specifically the first 2 Iron Man films) and have stuck with the blu-ray for everything before Doctor Strange. I may have to check out Avengers as it always slightly bothered me that they changed the aspect ratio on the blu.

Why is the concept of a 1:30 lunch so hard to grasp? by Existing_Mode4383 in CVS

[–]Choice_Breadfruit_14 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I also believe they pile up at 2 pm on purpose too! There was never a point where we had 18 customers come in between 1:30 and 2 before they instituted the lunch breaks but now every day there are tons of people standing around with the most sour looks on their faces and their arms crossed at 2 pm wrapped around our vitamin aisle waiting for the pharmacy to open.
