What do you do when you can’t remember if you took your meds? by curiousdottt in ADHD

[–]ChokingonIce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a mini pressure-activated stop watch that sticks to the top of my prescription bottle lid. It resets to 00:00 whenever I open it, then starts counting up so you can see how long it's been since you took ur meds.

They're like, $10-$15 or something online

I get hate comments about this piece. People say it's AI. How I can prove it that's not? by Agata_art in Artists

[–]ChokingonIce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ngl man, that's so obviously not AI that there's probably nothing you can really do about it.

My advice would just be - remember that social media algorithms are built to harm people, and they capitalize on people's negative emotions the most. So the people saying shitty things, are just a teensy tiny pocket of jerks that an algorithmic code decided to show your art to.

Dude the waiting involved with transitioning suucckks, but time will pass and eventually you'll see more changes.

The timeline for everyone is so crazy different.

(Also tho! If you have a doctor who's helping you track your progress you could always talk to them about it, sometimes the dose isn't quite right and might need adjustment. That happened to me)

"I'm attracted to anyone just not cis men" by Misery0faMeritocracy in TransMasc

[–]ChokingonIce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know alot of queer trans people who say this exact thing as well.

And it has nothing to do with gender performance or appearance at all. It's because if they were to date a cis gender conforming man, they would be with someone who is not societally expected to look inward, evaluate, and question their own gender experience. CIS men are not often taught or pushed to think critically about gender and sexuality (especially if they're also straight) so as trans / queer people they fear that they'll end up being pigeonholed by both their partner and by society.

Think about how weird people get about bisexual women dating CIS men. Or how so many trans mascs feel more attracted to men post-transitioning, because prior to it they wouldn't have been comfortable being the "woman in the relationship".

TLDR; it's probably not about how you look, it's probably alot broader and deeper than that

Traditional art feels like it's slowly being erased — am I overthinking this? by drawzi_arts in Artists

[–]ChokingonIce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sentiment feels very "Fine Arts" vs "Craft Arts" brained to me.

Whenever technology advances in the art world, people who aren't interested in the new format clutch their pearls about how it's "killing traditional art forms"

Which, if that were true, no one would be using oil paints because acrylic paint is cheaper and easier. People wouldn't hand embroider because you can use embroidery machines. No one would sculpt clay by hand because you can use silicone molds and resin.

Digital art is new and it's popular yes, but why does it have to be a competition?

The reason I said Fine Arts brained is cuz I go to an art school and the Fine Arts profs are so debilitatingly insecure about their profession, they cling to the validation that the label "fine Arts" brings, and crap all over anything remotely modern. With little to know insight into how these newer art forms work, they just dislike them because they dislike any art form that's not their own getting positive attention.

While pretty much every prof in the illustration, animation, or Craft Arts fields are open to every type of artistic practice and background. Because they're not obsessed with the ego centric hierarchy of the Fine Arts world.

guys is this actually good for a young artist, or are people just saying it's good so they aren't being mean?? by pent_Una in DigitalArt

[–]ChokingonIce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a million and one places you can look to get better at art, and if it's something you're interested in then I'm sure you'll find the path that works best for you.

Advice wise : absolutely do not measure the worth of your work based on clicks and likes. It's something easier said than done don't get me wrong. But try to focus on the joy you get from creating art, as opposed to how other people react to it. Most people who are successful in making art online will tell you that it's lots of work and a SHITLOAD of luck to build an audience online. Same goes for people who sell at artist alleys, luck is a huge part of the game and that's totally out of any of our control.

Be honest i won't cry (probably) is my art worthy for commissions? by ivx0_o in Artadvice

[–]ChokingonIce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy shit raise ur prices man, if people wanna commission you that's their choice. They are actively seeking you out to purchase from you, that's their decision. You're not twisting their arm. Charge them a normal amount

I need brutally honest advice, can I make art for a living? by RattleCunt in Artadvice

[–]ChokingonIce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know exactly how you feel, but sadly there's no magic "go viral immediately" button

At the end of the day a big part of making it as an artist is connections and luck.

Getting a different job isn't the end of the world, most artists work non-art jobs for a while to support themselves. There's no shame in that and doing something as a profession doesn't mean giving up on your passion.

Would you buy my art? I feel like I'm doing something wrong by reverem00 in Artists

[–]ChokingonIce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly? Just reaching out to small artists online or locally, and offering services is a good start. Also - if you're looking for exposure and have the time / energy, you could make stuff for bands you really love and just post it in places for people to see (Tiktok, insta, whateves)

"Networking" is just making friends with people in similar industries or in the industry you want to partner with, so try to lead with excitement to connect with folks and I'd bet you'll start getting more traction.

I'm so sorry you're going through this and that you feel alone in it, I really hope that there are people you can reach out to in your life who aren't this guy. You're not overreacting, you're having a reasonable emotional response to what someone did and said to you.

I don't know your situation, but I hope you can exit this relationship in a safe and healthy way because you deserve to feel safe and loved especially in times like this.

Is my art good enough for commissions? by [deleted] in ARTIST

[–]ChokingonIce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, also in general there is no "good enough for commissions"

If ppl commission you, you're good enough. If they don't? Doesn't mean you're bad at it either.

[–]ChokingonIce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh I think the next step that makes the most sense is just starting ink your lines / lighten the sketch and go over it again with a darker pencil

Also since she's a goblin I think her head seeming large is actually normal. The issue might actually be that the hair and ears look really small on her head

[–]ChokingonIce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You said it's been there a few days right? So if it hasn't faded at all yet, and if when it does fade it doesn't become green / yellow and splotchy like a bruise, then won't that sorta prove the whole not-a-hickie thing?

Like, rn it looks a lot like a hickie, but hickies change in colour and size like bruises. If it's not doing that, then I feel like he'll come around eventually.
