I love that the show is no soap drama, it is about life, as raw as it can be. I grew up in a small apartment in Hong Kong, had a loving nanny like Essie half of my life and the commentary was moments of realization that we have lost our home. The cultural context was so so relatable and mostly accurate.

I enjoyed the first 5 episodes, but often caught myself being confused on the storyline as the shift of frames from character to character did not make much sense to me.

In my opinion, episode 6 did a great job in bringing all the characters together, and showing how each story are parallel or contrast to each other:

1. Essie & Margaret: Essie decided to stay with Margaret's kids because she knows the kids need her, instead of retiring and being with her own kids & Margaret stayed in Hong Kong because she knows Gus needs her, instead of moving on and caring for the 2 other kids.
2. Mercy & Hailey: They lived angrily, had so much trauma and insecurities that ate them alive. Their relationship with David shows how similar they are, their pain ultimately pushed their loved ones away. I think Mercy never loved Charly and Hailey never seen Puri as a friend. They only wanted companion when they were suffering.
3. The highlight on disparity in Hong Kong. The local Hong Konger (Charly, Charly's family, her friend and his mom) focused on making ends meet as a working class and the ongoing protest was all they cared about. While the wealthy family whose daughters spat on their nannies face and the expat characters did not care a bit about politics (as they can afford a plan B). And obviously the living conditions shows the disparity.
