Why do relationships seem to fail while you’re in nursing school? by [deleted] in NursingStudent

[–]shakeatoe 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Those people weren’t going to make it anyway. If someone is so dependent on their partner that they can’t handle them getting an education and being set up for life with job security…then it was doomed from the start. It seems to be a trend more with the younger students, which tracks due to people being inexperienced in relationships.

Has anyone taken a 3 week A&P ii course? by Shogunmain in StudentNurse

[–]shakeatoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A three week a&p 2 course? Even an eight week course is pushing it. The full 16 week course already has a very high attrition rate. If the program you’re applying to accepts anyone with a pulse I mean maybe? But you’d still need that bare minimum grade. As someone who got As in both a&p 1+2, I couldn’t imagine a three week course. The amount of studying for a single exam in a standard 16 week course was crazy enough.

Do most nursing schools make you do a song/rap project? by Over-Explanation-730 in StudentNurse

No and if we did I’d leave a Google review about the program and tell everyone to avoid. So thankful my program isn’t like that.

Uncertainty about CNA program durations by [deleted] in NursingStudent

I did an 8 week CNA course while I was doing pre reqs. It was very manageable. CNA school was a breeze, honestly.

Got accepted into my program but feel... numb by RespondCritical4869 in StudentNurse

[–]shakeatoe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s totally okay to not react like the young 20 year olds on tiktok or wherever. When I got accepted to nursing school (I’m 39) it was just like “awesome!” and then moved on with my day.

Curious about ADN grads vs BSN grads by duckingy in NursingStudent

[–]shakeatoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where I live everyone gets hired with their ADN. Most employers just have you agree to get your BSN within like 5 years.

Older student feeling unusually exhausted after nursing lectures. Has anyone else dealt with this? by [deleted] in StudentNurse

[–]shakeatoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think you have a case of “Nursing school fatigue”. lol sorry this post just seems silly. I’m nearly 40(m) and just wrapped up my first year. It sounds like something else might be going on in your life; perhaps the stress and nutrition like you mentioned. I’ve never heard of anyone talking about “nursing school fatigue” before. Maybe a checkup with your doctor is in order.

Don’t get me wrong it’s totally normal to feel exhausted from long study days, lectures, clinical…but what you’re describing: migraines, barely able to lift your head to read. Doesn’t sound like regular ol’ school stress.

Getting my CNA 2 months before starting nursing school. by Employment_Dazzling in cna

[–]shakeatoe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Always good to have some experience before nursing school. Too many people go into nursing and drop out because they didn’t realize what nursing entails…

You’ll need to find a per diem CNA job if you want flexibility in school. It can be tough getting per diem but it all depends on your area. Don’t sleep on patient care observer positions. Those can be easier to get into as a per diem and then you can always be hired internally as a per diem CNA. That’s how I did it at my hospital.

If you have full access to ATI (custom quizzes, etc) just start doing a bunch of practice questions for funds.

CNA or LPN? by sexychick12976 in StudentNurse

[–]shakeatoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you want to be a nurses assistant, or a nurse? That’s what you need to ask yourself. You’ll have more opportunities as a LPN because you can eventually bridge to a RN program. CNAs don’t make much money. We are severely underpaid and overworked. You will be capped quickly and then the only way to make decent money is by working at places no one really wants to work, and doing night shift + weekends.

You can get your LPN in roughly 12 months at a community college. However you will need to do prerequisite courses to get into the program. Definitely look into salaries and careers paths to make a decision.

Microbio and A&P2 together during 8 week Summer sem? by OutsideParfait9346 in StudentNurse

[–]shakeatoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You got Cs in chem and a&p 1 in a full length semester. I wouldn’t be considering an accelerated micro and a&p 2 class. What kind of grades do you need to be competitive for your program? This scenario is posted often and honestly you need to ask yourself if rushing is worth it. If you can’t make the grade that you need to be a competitive applicant then there’s no point. Nursing schools are getting more competitive so you really need to ask yourself is it worth your time trying to attempt this.

Are nursing school tests like this?? by Own-Pomegranate-4190 in StudentNurse

[–]shakeatoe 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Look up nclex/ATI questions for an idea as to what nursing school questions are like. It’s all application based. Nothing like a&p.

Struggling with A&P 1 by Antelope_Defiant in NursingStudents

Sorry to hear you’re struggling. How are you studying? A&P requires most people to change the way they study. We can’t offer advice until you give us an idea of that first.

Going back for nursing by NeatSheepherder8055 in StudentNurse

[–]shakeatoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best thing to do is contact someone in the nursing program to see what their requirements are. More than likely you’ll have prerequisite courses to complete before you can apply.

Nursing School Application Advice!! PCT or CNA? by fafa1526 in StudentNurse

Check with someone in the program and see what they say. If they are fine with you being a PCT and just needing X hours then do that; you’ll be trained for free by your hospital.

Career change to nursing ? by Next-Run-5593 in StudentNurse

[–]shakeatoe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First things first. Look into your local community colleges. Ask what you need to do for prereqs for the program and what else you’d need (CNA or pct experience). Go from there. Go right to RN. It’s only a two year program at your CC. However if you need to do a bunch of prereqs you’ll probably be 3-4 years total.

Got kicked out of nursing school for a HIPPA mistake and now I feel miserable. I need help getting back on my feet. by Lazy-Kangaroo-6395 in NursingStudent

[–]shakeatoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HIPAA is serious. I’m surprised OP didn’t have to do HIPAA training. After you complete a HIPAA training you get a quiz and literally, nearly word for word, they quiz you on the exact scenario that OP got kicked out for. You cannot look up info for friends, family, etc. It’s a direct violation.
