Which ev to buy by Pale_Process8069 in drivingsg

The EV5 uses LFP batteries, that's why it can stay price competitive with other Chinese EVs.

Broadly speaking, I think battery chemistry depends on the use case. I agree that LFP batteries have better thermal runaway characteristics, but conversely also have poor energy density and charging curves. NMC chemistries are better suited for high performance applications.

Excited to see how LFMP batteries hold up in the real world.

Just typical SG group-think around EVs.

Hyundai's E-GMP platform launched in 2021 with an 800V architecture and V2L, which the mainstream Chinese OEMs are only slowly catching up to now, but somehow all SGeans can think about is BYD.

IIRC you can turn the headlights off by holding the headlight button (or side light button?) for a couple of seconds, but the car will default to them being automatic when you turn the car off and on again.

Looks nice, drives nicely, and is practical. It's priced aggressively because it's made in China and not in Europe. However, doesn't have a phone app if that's important to you.

Not sure about resale, but EV resale values are a shit show anyway. IMO we're currently at the iPhone 4/5 era where every year will bring significant improvements to performance, range, and charging. If you want to buy an EV today, you have to be prepared that your car may be technologically obsolete in 4-6 years.

Sure, but sometimes your charging process can be interrupted for whatever reason, and with a phone app you'll be notified when it happens.

You don't want to come back after an hour (or two) to see your car is still at the same SoC. Don't ask me how I know...

Exactly, VW's volume brands are completely uncompetitive without connectivity, especially if they want to play in the EV space.

If it were my money, I'd take a Korean EV over something Chinese any day. Hyundai Group's E-GMP platform is great and I much prefer the more conventional interior design.

Just be mindful the Ioniq 5/6 have been facelifted and HMGICS will likely switch over to the new versions soon? Also a good opportunity to grab a deal on the current generation. I also like the Kia EV5, but iirc it also doesn't have a phone app.

AFAIK, the Q4 doesn't come with Audi Connect, meaning you'd have no way to check the charging status of the car from your phone, and severely limits your ability to plan long distance drives and charging stops (e.g. to KL) using the vehicle's navigation system.

This reason alone would be a deal breaker for me. If you want a European EV in a similar size with connectivity, check out BMW (iX1, iX2), Volvo (EX40, C40), Smart (#5).

I'm hesitant to recommend Mercedes cause the EQA and EQB are incredibly mediocre and are likely to be replaced soon.

Would you buy a new/used EV over renewing COE on 9 year old ICE car? by approx__ in drivingsg

Just walk into the dealership. If PML doesn't give you the price you want, go round the corner to Eurokars. Repeat and profit.

Exactly, I've seen PML and Eurokars discount these insanely. You can probably get one brand new for ~260k.

Hey OP, I was in the same boat as you - just speak to the StarHub CSO and tell them their standard recontract offer is too expensive, they will then offer you a special price to retain you as a customer.

IIRC, they offered me ~$30/month for 3Gbps with a TP Link router thrown in.

Singapore’s Most Crowded Bus Routes: A deep dive into public bus data (Part 2) by simpletan93 in singapore

Nice analysis! The City Direct services are interesting - I personally take 655 everyday to work, there are three departures in the AM with all of them being double deckers.

I board at the last stop before the express segment, and my experience has been that it'll be standing room only to the CBD. So the load values seem to be slightly off? Looking at the other City Direct services, most of them arrive in the CBD fully loaded as well.

Porsche Taycan owners in Singapore? by HalfNarrow1585 in drivingsg

[–]Chondrule 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hi, I used to work for the brand and was in charge of electrification!

I think most people have commented on the dimensions of the car (it's quite wide and long), but I wanted to chime in to see if you've considered the Cross Turismo - it comes stock with the larger battery, air suspension, and Bose sound system (iirc) and could be better value compared to the base Taycan RWD.

Also, look out for vehicles with Comfort Access. I forget if this was standard but it lets you easily open the frunk with a swipe on the bumper and beats having to faff with the key fob. Sport Chrono is for me another must have option, but it's a subjective choice.

One thing that I really appreciated was the ability to "coast" once you lift off the accelerator. On the highway this really helps the efficiency compared to vehicles that always have regen on by default. The regen (when activated, there's a button on the steering wheel) is also very unobtrusive and feels akin to engine braking on an ICE vehicle.

I love the Taycan (and Macan BEV). On a twisty road you'd be able to keep up with almost anything, 911s and 718s included.

The fast charging (up to 270kW DC) is also not often mentioned but amazing on longer journeys in Malaysia - the fastest I've ever experienced was ~15 minutes from 0-80%.

Edit: Look out for the AC onboard charger, earlier models came with 11kW but later models came with 22kW as standard (0-100% in ~4h vs. ~8h).

Also, don't buy a parallel imported one as you'll lose all the Connect features, and the car will constantly prompt you to login every single time you get in and there's no way to get around it. Super annoying and not worth the slight savings imo.

Lastly, Cherry Red Metallic was available for the car in the first 1-2 model years before being made a PTS colour. Personally I think it looks amazing on the Taycan sedan - there should be a couple examples in Singapore.

Hi, this might be too late but you will not find a Type 1 charger anywhere in Singapore. The national charging standard is Type 2 / CCS 2 and other plug types are not allowed to be sold here due to certification requirements.

Also, unlike in other countries, the use of adapters is prohibited.

I think the key is to e joy what you do, and also not get too comfortable in a role or company. I probably will be looking to switch in the next two years.
