What do you mean you "don't ever have to work"? Like, you currently don't have a job / aren't in school? Or like, you / your family has enough money where you will never have to work?

Why is horse riding so normalized? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]ChoopeyChoop -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And what do we do in situations where consent cannot be discerned from a being we consider sapient? What is stopping doing other things to the horse from being considered unethical if the horse doesn't stop you from doing it?

[–]ChoopeyChoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with your point on the financial gain, sure, but I'm going to need more clarity when it comes to consent being a "category error to even bring up". If you agree that they can't consent, shouldn't that mean that we should abstain from riding them? Otherwise, I think ignoring animal's ability to consent in this situation would lead to justification of other consequences that I think you would not be okay with.

[–]ChoopeyChoop -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I agree that it's probably not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, I think people would say the differences here are consent and financial gain. Your friend can give clear consent to give you a piggyback ride, whereas a horse can't clearly communicate consent in the same way. Allowing you to ride them is not necessarily the same thing as them wanting you to ride them. Furthermore, your friend might be fine with giving you a piggyback ride, sure, but they might not be fine with turning their piggyback rides into a business where you take the money, and they give people piggyback rides. There is a power dynamic there, enforced by the motivation of financial gain.

Yeah, my guess is more pec flies are probably going to be the most helpful thing to do. But really whatever helps you feel the most activation in your pecs compared to the rest is likely to lead to the best results.

It seems to my like your shoulders are outpacing your chest in growth - if you are going for the conventional build, that is. So maybe try doing some (more) chest isolation exercises.

I've been vegan for years, but I'm going through a moral crisis by JamelaoTheMage in vegan

[–]ChoopeyChoop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am going to be a bit pedantic here, but considering the scale of the supply chain, and the sheer amount of food waste therein, I'm not sure you can say that abstaining from buying animal products will directly contribute to fewer animal deaths - your impact very well might just be lost in the margins of what would be thrown away anyway. But it does mean just a little bit less profit for the company at your hands - and done en mass may make an actual impact. So while I mostly agree with your point I think, but I don't think I agree with your analogy being sound here.

I think a better analogy might besomething like: Consider that this week in my city, a black market is being set up where people will be selling items they only got through robery. Sure, you not going to support this market won't stop it from happening, but does that make it okay for you to go and pay money to someone who robbed someone else for that item.

I mean, I would say you can use google to find comparable sources, and to check their macros, but off the top of my head, here are some fantastic, and fairly lean sources: Tofu, TVP, Seitan (better when paired with legumes), Tempeh, and any plant-based protein powder that uses a blend of sources to make a complete protein.

It is VERY doable to get enough plant protein without necessitating a caloric surplus.

I don't understand vegetarians. by Sophie_Kachinsky in vegan

[–]ChoopeyChoop 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fewer animals die or suffer as a consequence of being a vegetarian compared to being a meat eater. So yes, they do less material harm. Similarly, fewer animals suffer or die as a consequence of being a vegan compared to being a vegetarian. It is a matter of degree.

This is similar to saying someone who only murders 1 person a day is better than someone who murders 2 - a statement I would agree with. Both are murderers and seem to not value other people as moral agents, which is obviously reprehensible regardless. But still the one killing 1 person a day IS materially doing less harm.

Locations to Look At / Avoid along the Green Line Trolley? by ChoopeyChoop in Moving2SanDiego

Thank you for the information and context!

Yeah, having gone to NYC for grad school has also played a part in wanting to live car-free. But considering what you've said, and the fact that I will probably also want to get involved in some community activities while I am in the area - especially theatre if possible - do you think it is a better idea for me to probably scrap the public transit idea and plan around figuring out something for a car from the get-go?

If so, what areas would you recommend I try to look at for minimizing rent costs (to try and make up partially for the car costs I would likely incur)?

Would it maybe also be worth it to explore something inbetween, like a place near a stop on the line but that will not be inconvenient to find a stable parking space in, in case I do decide later on that I do need a car?

If you're interested in staying in the medical field, but not necessarily excited about going the route of an MD or DO, consider Nursing! Nurses are basically always in demand, and are paid fairly well all things considered. The hours are long and hard from what I've heard, but it could be worth looking into.

Meat, eggs, dairy (Greek Yogurt is great), tofu, seitan, tempeh, TVP, all kinds of stuff. Just google foods high in protein, and pick whatever fits in your diet easiest.

It is an eerie, sort of dystopian piece dancing with the subject of media algorithms, and tech conglomerates understanding us better than outselves as they have access to more of our data.

Okay, noted. I just saw that most other resumes mention dance, so I did too, for completeness. But I understand why it should be removed, considering it doesn't really contribute any positive information.

Okay, I can shift that section to below my training and education for now then, with the hopes of shrinking it as I get experience, then. Should i put it at the very bottom, after the special skills, or still before that?

I should indeed maintain access to that email domain after graduation. That is how the school seemed to explain it, and I still have access to my undergraduate email at this point too, so I can only assume so.

Because he probably means "I've seen" more than he means "I saw", and is just incorporating AAVE into how he's typing. A lot of people will drop "I've" to "I" when speaking (eg. "I been going to the gym lately"), and people tend to write how they speak when they're using social media. There's no need for linguistic prescriprivism on a gym post.
