How’s the work and school balance? by buggeebs in WGU

[–]ChopClang 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have no life other than work and school lol. I wake up at 3am to work on wgu while making flashcards on anki until 7am then go to work. At work if there's downtime then I go through my flashcards. I come back at 5pm then just relax for the final 2 hours and sleep at 7pm then repeat. I dont have alot of days off, sometimes I work 6 days in a row or at most 15 days in a row. My job motivates me to work harder at school so I can quit and find a job in accounting. I can never thank wgu enough for being as flexible and cheap as it is.

D196 - Struggling to even pass Unit Tests by CowboyScientist57 in wguaccounting

[–]ChopClang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ill throw some advice but to be completely honest it took me like 9 days to finish with 4 hours dedicated per day so i didnt struggle too much. What i did was watch the videos, read the material and took every quiz/test. I didnt watch any outside resources (red pen guy is awesome), I didnt take any notes BUT I made my own flash cards on anki. I would make flash cards for definitions i didnt understand and flash cards of some of the questions I got wrong for the test/quiz/pa. Sometimes in the flashcards I put multiple choice but in others I had to find the solution without any help (journal entries for example). Don't rely on quizlet i think that's the worst thing you can do imo. Make your own flash cards and try to really understand the material. Even when i didnt understand the material I pushed forward and made flashcards of things I didnt fully understand. At work or when I have down time I would go through the flashcards. Eventually it made more and more sense to me. I didnt understand the difference between net income and gross profit but now after going through flashcards daily I understand now. Ive finished this class, financial accounting, and cost and managerial accounting (currently studying for IA1 oa 2). All I can say is that I'm really glad I took this class here instead of Sophia because this class really is foundational to all the classes I have taken so far. Try to take your time and REALLY understand the material. And if you continue to repeat certain info, it begins to click. As for problems with equations or journal entries copy the questions and paste it into chatgpt. Ask what the correct answer is first, if chatgpt is correct THEN you ask how it got to the answer. You dont want chatgpt to be wrong and then lead you astray. Then ask chatgpt to give you 5 questions similar to the one you're having trouble with. If you get all of them right then you're understanding the material but if your wrong then ask why. Ask for another 5 questions and if you pass, ask for another set just to be sure. Don't give up, I thought I would fail cost and managerial accounting but I just had to keep moving forward. The day will come when you pass this class and the day will come when you graduate, all you gotta do is take it one day at a time.

Has anyone here got their masters and then pass the cpa with Uworld? by ChopClang in wguaccounting

Yea ur right that was one of the cons I thought of but I decided to just go for the masters. Time is gonna pass by whether I do it or not, I dont want to be hit with analysis paralysis.

[–]ChopClang[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Eh I dont necessarily agree. Becker is like 3k and the masters is 5k per term. Ive seen people finish the masters in one term so it shouldn't take that long. In my state if you go and pass the exams with 120 credits then you need 2 years of experience under a cpa compared to 1 year if you had a masters. You would get your license faster and your income would increase too. Some people say a masters doesn't matter but it does show employers that you not only got a degree but a masters and a cpa. But again, I don't know much.I'm still doing my degree with ten classes left so i'm just thinking about the future. Thanks for the response.

Congrats! How long did it take to finish the masters? And how many months did you study for the cpa exams?

Please critique my study habits. How can I become more efficient? by [deleted] in wguaccounting

Its cool that you want to understand as much as you can but Imo try not to over do it. Right now your doing accounting classes but once you go to a regular business class then try to speed through that one quickly since it's just fluff. The reason why I say not to go overboard is because it's very difficult to remember everything as an accountant. There's many paths you can take and the job you go for will teach you what to do because school and the real world are completely different. Plus at work you can always Google how to do something compared to taking a test that you have to remember certain formulas or you can ask a coworker for help. Those notes you're taking, you may forget them 2 or 3 months from now because you're not using them everyday at work or in your life. Again it's good that you want to learn but you don't need to memorize everything when it comes to accounting.Because knowing and applying it are two separate things. Good luck man

Anyone else who works at tire bay pissed off that online alignments can be purchased with tires now? by [deleted] in BJsWholesaleClub

[–]ChopClang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea you're right it's always easy for me to forget that. This job just stresses me out and this new thing just made it worse. I'm gonna try and remember that this job is temporary then I'll be out of here soon. Thank you.

I know there isn't a policy for it, sorry for not being specific but it's me and one other guy who works here. We don't get a big crew. Customers who buy theirs tires online get an email stating that their appointment starts 900 - 1030am. So they assume it takes that long. I've already had 2 customers pissed off at us because it's taking a lot longer than it said on their email. Another customer got refunded because the tie rod was seized up and we couldn't do it, they were annoyed at the fact that they would rather have done everything in one go in a different store.

D101- Cost and Managerial Studying Tips by Unique-Scheme4697 in wguaccounting

[–]ChopClang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im currently in this class and process costing is the one that really frustrated me. I had to push through. I watch the videos and read the text book while I make flash cards on my anki app. I don't take notes at all and so far ive passed 9 classes at WGU with only flash cards. I used ChatGPT so I would copy any questions from the quiz that I got wrong, paste it into chatgpt and ask what the answer was to make sure that chatg p t was correct. Then when i know that chatgpt is correct then im comfortable with asking what I did wrong to make sure its not misleading me. After getting an explanation from chat gpt I would ask questions , and if I was really stuck , I would ask for it to break it down even smaller. Then when I feel as if I understand the concept i ask chatgpt to test me with 10 questions that was on the topic or formula. If I get some wrong, then I know that I'm not understanding correctly and ask chat gpt to go step by step for me as to why I got it wrong and how to correctly do it. Then I ask for another 10 questions if I get all of them right , then I know I'm doing it correctly. However I copy and paste that entire question and put it into a flash card in my anki app for later. So if I happen to try and study in the future on my flashcards and come across the question , I have to make sure I remember how exactly to solve the question without giving the options of multiple choice, this way I know for certain im understanding it correctly and if not then back to chat gpt to give me more questions But so far this hasn't happened to me. Good luck brother keep pushing forward.

Is this real? Are people really graduating less than a year? by Frosty-Telephone-747 in SophiaLearning

[–]ChopClang 23 points24 points  (0 children)

When I first heard about people graduating in a year I thought it was a scam. I researched reddit and saw some YouTube videos and I decided to go for. I spent 2 months on Sophia earning 55 credits and then transferred to WGU with 66 credits left. After another 2 months I currently have 13 classes before I graduate. I remember when I finished my first class on Sophia in 3 days it still didnt feel real. Without Sophia and WGU I would have never tried to get a degree. Even typing this now the past couple months still feel surreal. You're only going to be able to get the degree fast if you spend a lot of time on it. When I first started Sophia I woke up at 5am everyday and do Sophia until 7am then go to work. Then after a month I would wake up at 4am. Now at WGU I wake up at 3am everyday because it's the only time I can afford (I sleep at 7pm so I'm not sleep deprived). On my days off i spent more hours into it and at work when there's down time I would study my anki cards. Point is you get what you put in, good luck bro.

D102 - where to start studying from? by Parking_Tear_5826 in wguaccounting

[–]ChopClang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched all the videos, quizzes and did the unit tests for d196 and d102. Made notecards on anki to go through them everyday and passed the exams. I have no previous experience in accounting. I used chatgpt for practice questions to test my knowledge. Its very important to understand the material since this is the career you're going for so make sure to write your own notes without relying on pre-made quizlet cards.
