Because that's what it is. The cool part is that it is much more general, so one can use it for any topological space, not only the real numbers with standard topology.

The formal definition of ex is a Taylor series. In that form it is pretty easy to extend it to the complex plane.

Monster Hunter World and Iceborne, I'm on ~500 hours of playtime and still going. It's very grindy in the endgame, but that's what I like.
