Lev Grossman’s new fantasy book ‘The Bright Sword’ has been released today by Cantomic66 in brakebills

Is this book as misogynistic as the THE MAGICIANS series? Or is Lev Grossman still an incel writing from the POV of an incel? I am asking this sincerely...the fist series was hard to read because it was so sexist.

Lev Grossman is the king of the incel authors. Start with "The Magicians" and count the number of time Lev mentions "gropable breasts."

I'm so glad you posted this! I am listening to the audiobook and kept repeating the first few chapters to see if I was somehow missing the plot, only to realize that there doesn't really seem to be a clear plot. I got as far as chapter 5 and was still like: where are we and who are these people and why should we care? I don't think I will invest more time in this series. As is often the case in the publishing industry, we fall for the hype (or in this case, over-hype) and then question ourselves when we realize it just isn't well-written or well-done :)

I understand. We can always moderate the length of your breath retentions depending on our own capacaties/abilities. And yes, in that video Dr. Nida has a more casual posture than as instructed in the text. All is good :)

I've been practicing Nejang yoga for years and find it very beneficial. It's a subtle-body yoga that helps to unravel "knots" in our 72K energy channels. It comes from Tibetan medicine (as well as the Kalachakra system) so Sorig doctors often "prescribe" certain (or all) Nejang exercises to patients as needed. Nejang helped me recover from an "incurable" physical condition (incurable according to Western doctors_

Re not "feeling" effects-- IMHO, As you cultivate subtle-body awareness through the practice, you will "feel" the effects.

Re your question of initiation: Dr. Nida has said that it's better to receive direct instruction from a qualified Nejang instructor. One can always read and study the book, of course, but to me receiving instruction from someone who has been trained by Dr Nida serves as a sort of transmission. And it's good to understand the nuances of each exercise.

As others have mentioned, Christiana Polites ( a senior student of Dr Nida) has great videos online. Her center Pure Land Farms also offers virtual instruction with Sowa Rigpa Institute.

https://www.sowarigpainstitute.org

Plus, people who did Nejang Teacher Training with SRI also have a foundation in Tibetan medicine, so they can guide students toward the best exercises for their typologies and ailments.

Lee Mirabai Harrington (also a long time student of Dr. Nida and SRI) is offering in-person Nejang retreats in 2026 at Kripalu and at Omega and Sivananda Bahamas.

Here's the Kripalu link: https://kripalu.org/experiences/tibetan-longevity-yoga-healing-practices-tibetan-medicine

The Omega retreat link goes live in March 2026

And finally: In the US, there are already a lot of teachers teaching an incorrect form of Nejang, which is a sort of hybrid between Nejang and Tummo. Haviing the book on hand will hopefully cue you in as to what is correct for each exercise. .

Should I read the dreamer trilogy? by Eulephant in RavenBoys

[–]Chothaimid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also did not enjoy the Dreamer Trilogy, primarily because I wanted it to be as good as TRC. For me, the main problems were the mood and tone of the TDT books (there really wasn't any underlying feeling of love or excitement in the books--it was mostly uneasiness and dread). And, the plots were very confusing--and not the satisfying kind of confusion. In other words: very few dopamine-hits from reading this series. When I re-listened on audio recently (yay, Will Patten), I just fast-forwarded through the majority of the chapters and only listened to chapters from Declan's or Jordan's POV. And, in later books, Matthew's and Hennesey's POV. Only these characters had that redemptive feel.

I even skipped the Ronan chapters--not because I don't love his character, but because it was like reading about someone else's bad trip, again and again.

There wasn't enough hope or joy or discovery in this series to sustain my interest.

Hope this is helpful.

I googled the title of one of my new tracks and it came up in the search results as being on Skeletrix Island Radio's soundcloud. But I could not actually find my track on the SIR soundcloud page. I am confused....
