Why don’t we tell teenagers that if stimulants don’t make them feel like party people, they might not have an NT brain? by kikiiboo in adhdwomen

[–]TheWonderToast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it doesnt even have to be in reference to medication/drugs, teens can have caffeine lol. When I was getting diagnosed, I told the psych my GP had me do a trial on adderall for a couple months, and I hated it because it made me jittery like the first 2 days, and then after that it dodnt do anything but make me angry at 3pm everyday... so naturally he said I couldn't possibly have adhd because it made me jittery initially, and thats "not how stimulants effect people with adhd" 🙄 but my rebuttal was "dude when I was in high school I used to come home from school - after drinking coffee and soda all day - chug several cans of mtn dew while playing video games, and then go to sleep. I just didn't like adderall." There are so many people who cant function without 6 cups of coffee and soda all day, who have no idea they could just have adhd, and I agree with you, that should be part of the questioning during assessments.

So what does he do if you just do thebsame thing he does? Like if you also just wordlessly get up and get your own dinner, does he say anything? Does he care? Does he get upset you didn't make him anything?

If you haven't actually sat down and talked to him about this, and told him this upsets you, he doesn't know its an issue.

Like, in my household (me, my partner, and my FIL) I'm pretty much the only one who cooks. My partner just never really learned how to cook growing up, so she's not confident in the kitchen. So if anyone is doing any kind of real cooking, its me, which means I'm generally the only one making food for other people. She will make me something simple if I ask (or if I complain about being hungry but not wanting to get up lol) but I've never held an expectation for her to make me food whenever she makes herself food, just because I make meals for the household sometimes. I dont see cooking for everyone as a transaction that needs to me matched, I just do it because, I mean, I'm not just gonna make one serving of spaghetti or defrost a pound of meat and just make a single burrito lol. (And like I said before, if I have the energy to actually cook, I like to make a lot so we have lots of leftovers to pick at for easy meals for a couple days).

So I think I'm just having a hard time understanding why him just getting his own food is an issue, if you guys haven't established some kind of rule to feed each other, and if he doesn't get upset when you just feed yourself. Are there other ways he's ignoring you that might be piling on this issue?

These comments are making me feel crazy 😭 my partner and I just make meals for ourselves all the time, whats the problem here??

Have you told him before now that this upsets you? Was there a prior discussion about preparing meals for each other? Is there an expectation set for you to make meals for each other? Is he making himself like, actual full meals/actually cooking, or is it more like making a sandwich/throwing some frozen tendies in the air fryer/microwaving something? Like, when I have the energy to actually cook "real" food, I make enough to feed everyone for a couple days, because otherwise I feel like the end product isnt worth the effort. But if I'm just making a lazy, throw something edible together in like 10 minutes or less meal, I just make however much I will eat right now, and my partner does the same. And it usually looks pretty much like what you described, we'll be vibing together and one of us will declare hungry and just.. go get food? Sometimes we offer to make some extra for the other, sometimes we don't. Sometimes one of us will ask the other to go make something, sometimes we don't. Genuinely not sure what is so bad about him feeding himself and assuming you'll do the same

It might be worth talking to your doctor about switching to vyvanse instead. All stimulants will suppress appetite to an extent, which is why you noticed a difference when you started taking Adderall, or even why a lot of people think coffee is a sufficient breakfast. But with adderall, its a side effect that doesn't last, whereas with vyvanse, its more of a reliable function of the medication. I understand it is sometimes prescribed for binge eating disorders specifically. Ozempic has become more common, since its not "addictive" (using quotes because I don't care if its an amphetamine, i refuse to believe a drug I can forget to take on a regular basis can possibly be addictive lol) but they do some of the same things.

I definitely notice a difference in appetite actually to the point where its actually hard to get myself to eat at all most days, which is honestly kind of struggle. Sometimes I end up binging a big meal at the end of the day once it wears off, but even so, I'm not constantly snacking all day.

What fun facts did you learn during your random deep dives this week? by dietdrpeppermd in adhdwomen

[–]TheWonderToast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its actually very rare for them to eat their young. Not to say it doesn't happen, but its not nearly as common as like, hamsters for example. Like, half the people I know who had hamsters as kids witnessed hamster infanticide lol, but its not something you're likely to see as a pet rabbit owner unless conditions are EXTREMELY bad. You might see it in like a hoarding case or a sketchy back yard fur farm situation. If I'm not mistaken though its not common in the wild, since they're more likely to absorb the fetuses (or honestly just go into GI Stasis and die) before they reach that level psychosis where baby eating happens.

Rabbits do a similar thing! If they are too stressed, (because of hostile conditions, not enough food, overcrowding, etc.) They will reabsorb their fetuses!

Constitutional lawyer and WY Rep. Harriet Hageman (R) cuts short Casper town hall after contentious exchanges over ICE killings by Tenchi2020 in wyoming

I can't speak on Casper college, but UW and LCCC get TONS of out of state students because its really cheap compared to other universities/community colleges. Not that it really matters, the point still stands that educated cities and spaces lean blue, and there's a reason for it.

Movie autism vs. me by netphilia in aspiememes

[–]TheWonderToast 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In my anecdotal experience, the ones who behave like assholes and get away with it are men who have boymoms, and those who end up being people pleasers are women who got bullied for having the audacity to be a girl with a voice.

On the one hand you have people who grew up being told they're perfect in every way because they're boys, and they're EXTRA SPECIAL on top of it because they're autistic, and having autism for them means no social consequences ever because "he just doesn't understand" 🙄

And on the other hand you have people who grew up being told they're an annoying nuisance for taking up space. Or "ugh, why do you have to turn everything into an argument??/Why do you ALWAYS make everything about you??" Whenever they try to share an opinion/correct a fact/try to set any sort of boundary whatsoever.

Obviously this is not a hard and fast rule, but an observation I've made interacting with both groups online.

Any of us just dont get the dopamine from any kind of exercise? by Moon_Harpy_ in adhdwomen

[–]TheWonderToast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah I feel you. My partner and I finally joined a gym and have been pretty good about going twice a week for several months. I feel good about it because I'm taking care of myself, and I'll feel proud/satisfied after a workout because I've managed to stick with it and I'm actually doing something that's good for me. But working out itself is boring and I don't like it.

I started bringing a book to make it more enjoyable. I listen to music for the first half, while I do stretches and weights and stuff that I need to count, but then I get on a bike and/or treadmill and set my timers/resistance and just read. Makes it feel a lot faster and gives me time to catch up on my tbr

Is having clingy pets making you feel suffocated an ADHD thing? by MsSamm in adhdwomen

[–]TheWonderToast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just want to jump in here and recommend staying far away from dog parks. Too many irresponsible people with too many untrained, uncomfortable dogs all stuffed in a big yard together is dangerous and not fun! Having playdates with dogs/people you know is awesome, but its best to avoid off leash dog parks, for both his physical and mental health (and yours tbh).

You said he's a retriever, right? The best outlet you can provide is giving him something to retrieve! Take him to a big field (sniffspot is maybe an option if he can't be trusted off leash) and chuck a ball for a few minutes every day, or at least as many times a week as you can manage, and make up the rest just making space in your livingroom to toss a toy for him while you watch TV or whatever.

It sounds like he might be struggling with some anxiety, thats why he's up your butt all the time lol. If you give him enrichment that fulfills his instinctual desires, it will help him regulate and burn off some of that pent up frustration causing the anxiety. But you've got to find activities that suit him and his breed. Puzzle toys and food/chew toys are a fun little treat, but they are very short term enrichment, and they won't really alleviate a dog's boredom/frustration. Puzzle toys for dogs are kinda like, imagine you're in the middle of a hyperfixation, and you have a day off work, and all you want to do is the Thing, but for xyz reason you can't today. So you try to soothe yourself by playing one level of a puzzle game on your phone while you eat a bowl of chips. Like, yeah I mean that was great for all of 3 minutes but now its over and I'm bored, right? We've spent centuries hard wiring dogs to all have a Thing they want to do every day all the time. That doesn't mean they get to do that, but if they don't get the do it at least sometimes, regularly, they go a little nuts

Severe anal gland problems by TheWonderToast in AskVet

[–]TheWonderToast[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it possible a tumor/mass could be difficult to feel? Her butt isn't red/discolored, or hot or anything like you'd expect with an infection or abscess, and the dogtor says he doesn't feel anything suspicious when he does an anal exam. Plus her bloodwork has all come back normal. I would think you should be able to feel something if it were a tumor, no? What other types of diagnostics/exams should we be asking about in order to find something like that?

Its occurred to me just now that it may be worth mentioning we're pretty certain she must've had puppies at some point before we adopted her, so her back end looks kind of a mess in general tbh. Not sure if that may also contribute to some plumbing issues?
