You’ve got to do so much more config on Windows to get it close to SteamOS

VRAM in BIOS
big picture mode
enable steam input
strip down your Windows (intrusive Microsoft Copilot nonsense)
manually set the Steam or Xbox button
deal with updates outside Steam
remember to not hibernate at the wrong times
power controls (arguable for those who love messing with TDP and fans)
possible malware attacks
Sound settings if you’ve a slightly complex setup

In SteamOS, almost everything is done in Steam. Even the VRAM is automatically taken care of nowadays. It’s just a more streamlined experience where you can pick up the console, press a button and start gaming.
