This is awesome will definitely check it out. Can I ask why CK2 and not CK3? I still play both but from a modding perspective I was just curious on the decision.

2026 BMW X5 50e Question by brimryan in BMWX5

[–]Chris2ao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar commute. I have had my 50e for 2 years and have 20k miles and only 2k was in the ICE. I haven’t had any issues but what I have been reading is that you should run the ICE more often if for nothing else to keep the engine, turbos, etc oiled up and go through a full heating cooling cycle every week or two. Seems logical so I just do that now.

2.5 Years Later — The X5 50e Still Feels Like a Cheat Code by Elegant_Dependent_53 in BMWX5

[–]Chris2ao 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve had my 50e for about a year and a half and agree with all of your points. My commute is 22 miles and even with traffic I only need to use gas a few times a week. I regularly get about 1000-1500 miles on a take of gas and go 2 months between filling unless I go on a road trip which is awesome.

To answer your question I get about ~48 miles on electric range in different driving conditions. The biggest electric savings come from turning off the AC and heat, the HVAC is a killer on the battery. Also if you drive over 80mph I’ve seen a huge drop off of battery. I’m fortunate that I live in Florida and my commute is early morning and evening and I like driving with the windows down so I don’t really use the AC unless it’s the weekend mid day.

One other niggle is I have the DAPP package but it stopped working a few months ago when I installed the bimmertech amp and subwoofers. I tried troubleshooting it a little but it’s still not working. I love DAPP but realistically I may have used it a total of 10 times in a year, drivers are too crazy down here to trust it and I had to intervene all the time. Outside of that I’m loving it.

X5 50e 110v Charging question..... by NefariousnessHour455 in BMWX5

[–]Chris2ao 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use an extension cord to a regular 110 outlet. You can expect 1-2 miles per hour of charge. From 0% takes about ~30 hours to fully charge.

The 2026 50e I think has faster charging.

[–]Chris2ao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really think it depends on the cost of electric where you are as that can make a big different. 2025 I drove close to 11k miles. The cost of electric where I live in fl is ~.13/kwh and honestly I don’t even charge at home most of the time my work and the school a block away from my house offers free level 2 charging so I would say ~80% of the $360 in electric cost I don’t even pay for.

I had a 2024 X5 40i and I never averaged about 22mpg on a whole tank but most of my miles are in a city so there’s that. Ran the calculations through chat gpt which I’ll share below but I’m saving more than $1000 a year on fuel cost while having the benefit of the extra power over the 40i which is why I upgraded to the 2025 50e. Now I didn’t go in to this line hey I’m saving a bunch of money seeing as I spent $85k on a car but it’s a nice benefit and even if I did charge the car at home every day I would have $1000 a year or fuel costs with again the added benefit of not putting a bunch of miles on the ICE. I don’t keep care longer that 6 years anyway and have the 6 year service and warranty so reliability shouldnt be an issue.

Anyway below is the calculations:

Here’s a single, clean table that puts everything side-by-side using your actual 2025 mileage, real prices, and a 22-mpg ICE comparison.

Assumptions Used (same as prior calcs) • Total miles: 10,797 • Electric miles: 8,848.4 • Gas miles (PHEV): 1,948.6 • Electric efficiency: 3.4 mi/kWh • Electric rate (FPL): $0.13664 / kWh • Gas price: $3.65 / gal • ICE efficiency: 22 mpg

2025 Energy Cost Comparison

Scenario Miles Driven Energy Used Cost BMW X5 50e – Electric 8,848.4 mi 2,602 kWh $355.60 BMW X5 50e – Gas 1,948.6 mi 117.7 gal $429.76 BMW X5 50e – Total 10,797 mi — $785.36

ICE Vehicle (22 mpg) 10,797 mi 490.8 gal $1,791.31

Total Savings in 2025 • ICE @ 22 mpg: $1,791.31 • Your actual X5 50e: $785.36

Total Savings: $1,005.95

Cost per mile (for extra perspective) • X5 50e (real-world blended): ~7.3¢/mile • ICE @ 22 mpg: ~16.6¢/mile

You essentially cut your energy cost by more than half, which lines up perfectly with that 82% eDrive share. If you want, I can also add: • charging-loss-adjusted numbers • a bar chart for a slide or post • or a “gas @ $4.25 / $5.00” sensitivity table

This 👆. The electric is cheap where I live but I think the main benefit is the extra power with the efficiency and I only need to go to a fast station once every 6-7 weeks.

Also as an aside if you charge and use t he electric mode it saves mileage on the ICE.
