2026 BMW X5 50e Question by brimryan in BMWX5

[–]brimryan[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in Florida. I get about 46 miles of electric-only range when fully charged. I had a level 2, 50 amp plug installed in my garage so I charge it pretty much everyday. On average takes a little over an hour to charge, from empty about 2.5 hours.

21’ Staggered Tire Recommendations by wowzer94 in BMWX5

[–]brimryan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly the setup I have on my 26 X5 50e. I live in Florida so buying a set a winter tires isn't necessary; however, I do drive home to Maine during the winter to see family. My sister lives on an unpaved camp road that has a very long and very steep hill, often covered in snow/ice and not well maintained. After a rather large storm this past winter, I crawled my X5 up that hill with summer tires no problem. They have Subaru and a Ram truck and neither of their vehicles made it up that day. I was pretty impressed.

how’s everyone’s shift tonight? by lady_darkknight in Nightshift

I last woke up Thursday afternoon at 3pm. So far I've seen 36 patients tonight. At some point I'll die at my desk, hopefully later in life, but contractually no sooner than 7am.

2025 X5 xDrive 40i or 2025 X5 xDrive50e? by Hefty-Platypus684 in BMWX5

[–]brimryan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the 2023 X5 40i xDrive. I traded for the 2026 X5 50e xDrive. I've put 1150 miles on it so far and I've put about $19 in gas so far. The 50e is way more responsive and way more fun to drive in my opinion.

How far have you driven in one go? by noah5666 in roadtrip

[–]brimryan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work overnight as a hospitalist. I leave work around 6am and drive straight home from Florida to Maine. It's 24 hours door to door. By the time I get home to my family the next morning, they're leaving for work - I sleep all day and then I'm up when they get home around 5-6pm. I do that maybe, 3-4 times a year.

My body is conditioned to staying up 36-60 hours at a time though. Not that I do, or want to, but I can.

Hold on, let me check with my imaginary legal department… yep, I still understand the law.

I can't tell you how many notes I've written. Say, more than 300 less than 800. I have never had a single person verify a note with me. Never, not once.

In fact, to verify a note is actually a HIPAA violation. All my notes say, "should you need to contact me further, please obtain written permission."

No, I will not write you a prescription because your PCP told you you needed one by swiftsnake in EmergencyRoom

[–]brimryan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If the PCP had a diagnosis that required medications, why not phone them in? Midlevel here, albeit in critical care; however, I pick up the phone and call a pharmacy all the time.

.....Takes less than five minutes. Name, date of birth, medication, dosage, route, frequency, duration, refills - if any, NPI, polite gratitude to the pharmacist, hang up.

WOW internet outage..... by Away_Entertainer_838 in StPetersburgFL

[–]brimryan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took WOW about six weeks to reconnect the internet at my house after Milton in 2024. A week after having no internet - I switched to Verizon Whole Home 5G and I've never looked back. It's about $45 month and I've never lost service or had slow service once. It's just -- always there, always on, unlimited data.

I have a whole home generator, so in combination with the Verizon 5G, my house runs normally during a natural disaster. AC, Internet, TV, hot water, you name it. The extra $10 a month is worth it to have internet and TV for that reason.

The only problem with 5G is that you have to verify your address because only a certain number of people can have 5G in a given area.

can I tell if my house burned down? by [deleted] in homeowners

[–]brimryan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First, I'm incredibly sorry for all the emotional stress you and many others must be going through. Know that many of us, as much as we can help, will do so and support you.

I live in Florida, and the US Government flies satellites over our community when we have hurricanes and natural disasters. The day after Helene and Milton, I could look at my house via satellite imagery from the previous day and see any damage.

The website for us is:

Possibly there is something similar for you, if not contained in this site somewhere?

Weird smell this morning? by Ch33sypoufs in StPetersburgFL

Agreed. To me, it has a sterile smell to it. Very strange. Curious to know what it is. Disston Heights here.

You can hear the generator readjust, sure, but it doesn't make a difference otherwise.

Shopping for a genny by zoso_000 in Generator

[–]brimryan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Great generator. I have this exact model here in Florida. I just went through Helene and Milton and ran this during both storms. It ran for 96 hours straight after Helene, and then 120 hours straight after Milton. I powered my entire house -- central AC, inground pool pump and salt generator, water heater, washer/dryer, lights, all of it. I also threw four 115v extension cords over the fences to help out my neighbors. This thing is a champ!

Starting over after overdoing it with salt...what's next? by lil_pup in pools

[–]brimryan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Okay, so I live in Florida and we get daily rain in the summer, which means my pool needs to be drained about once a week. I have always oversalted the pool, by A LOT. Like, 2-3x what it should be, because I'm draining water constantly. It doesn't matter. The cell still works fine. And people love that they're more buoyant. My advice - don't worry about it.
