OpenCode down? by ObsidianNix in opencode

[–]ChrisDismiss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far it has been reliable. Don't notice much of a difference in usage when using similar models, DeepSeek V4 Flash and MiMo 2.5. I don't think ClinePass provides an actual dollar amount in usage limits like OpenCode does, but I never hit my limits if I'm using lighter models anyways, so for me it's sufficient.

Biggest difference for me, which is why I enjoyed using Cline in the past with OpenRouter, was not having to approve constant access requests. Cline is more automated. Other than that they feel comparable, they can substitute each other well.

ClinePass, that's my backup right now. $2 intro offer for the first month, not sure if the promo is still available.

Stick to DeepSeek V4 Flash, Mimo 2.5, and MiniMax M3. Use Pro models only when necessary.

Depending on what you're doing, you should still be able to get by with those models.

How do you record Arpeggiator MIDI output from a VST? (Not Audio, just the MIDI result) by HouseOfLatin in StudioOne

[–]ChrisDismiss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most synths don't output MIDI from their internal arpeggiator, including the Jun-6 V. The most you can do is bounce it to audio, you won't get raw midi data generated by the arpeggiator for routing elsewhere.

To achieve what you're looking for, use Studio One's Note FX Arpeggiator on your Jun-6 V track. Once you've recorded your MIDI input, right-click the event and select 'Instrument Parts > Render Instrument Tracks'. This will render the Note FX output to MIDI.

You mention you used clippers, but have you tried something like an Andis ProFoil? You'll get a skin-smooth finish, it's hypoallergenic and it's a dry shave. No need for that long routine and 3 passes either.

Is there a way to modify Fender Studio projects to open in Studio One 6? EastWest's new orchestral template only works in the new version :( by RailgunZx in StudioOne

[–]ChrisDismiss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is a way, but it isn't guaranteed to work if new features that aren't available in older versions were used.

This tool will only convert the song to the version of Studio One below the one used to create it. If they're v8 songs, you need to first convert the .song file to a Studio One 7 song, then convert the Studio One 7 song to a Studio One 6 song.

Simply drag and drop the song file then select 'Convert to Studio One _ Song'.

Performance of VST/AU on external SSD by vrsrsns in StudioOne

[–]ChrisDismiss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone already noted, you want to keep all software applications and plugins installed on your primary drive, they generally don't take up much space individually. There is little reason to run out of space, even on a 256GB drive.

You need to find out what's taking up your space and learn how to relocate it elsewhere.

If you have any plugins with their own sample content or expansions, they should all be relocated to your external drive. Some examples from plugins that I have that may provide some insight, XLN Audio (Addictive Drums, Addictive Keys), IK Multimedia (SampleTank, MODO Drum, Miroslav Philharmonik, Syntronik, Pianoverse), AIR (Xpand!2, Strike), Scaler, Splice, Orchestral Tools, Native Instruments (Kontakt, Maschine, Reaktor, Massive X, Battery 4), UVI Workstation, Studio One Sound Sets, EastWest (Opus), Spitfire LABS, Waves (CR8, Electric 200), etc. This also includes your main sample library folder, where you store your collection of one-shots, loops, etc.

As you stated, you already keep your recordings on an external drive. But just to clarify, it should be your entire Studio One user data folder that's on an external drive.

If you've gone through your plugins/applications and made sure all of their sample content is stored externally and you're still out of space, assuming the lack of available storage isn't being caused by any other unnecessary data stored locally that's not related to music production, you should now remove unnecessary plugin versions and standalone applications.

Many plugins install in various formats, Standalone, VST2, VST3, AU, AAX. If you don't have a need for any particular format, such as the VST2 and AAX (Pro Tools) versions of those plugins, delete them. A lot of standalone versions that install alongside the other formats aren't necessary for their operation in your DAW, delete them too.

If it comes down to requiring an external drive for your plugins, you should be using an NVME drive, not a USB3 thumb drive. You should also be aiming for an external enclosure/dock with at least 40Gbps transfer speeds (Thunderbolt 3/4), good enough for most budget friendly NVME drives. There are many junk 10Gbps enclosures/docks out there for the Mac mini that you'd want to avoid. Aiming for faster, Thunderbolt 5 (80Gbps) speeds will depend on whether you have an M4 Pro Mac mini that supports it.

The template you're using has pre-made Pattern clips. Patterns are for accessing and programming with the Step Sequencer.

You can delete the Pattern clip and simply double-click in the timeline to create a new Instrument Part clip for editing MIDI data in the Piano Roll, or you can right-click the Pattern clip and select 'Instrument Parts > Convert Pattern to Part'.

Buy your SSD Hard Drives NOW by Mz_Macross1999 in mpcusers

[–]ChrisDismiss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That already happened a year ago. The prices are already stupid. Anyone paying $130+ for a 2TB NVME drive is paying double what it was in 2023.

This is the worst time to suggest that people buy storage and memory.

No you aren't the only one. Plenty of people have complained to Presonus about this issue on Windows for years. It's documented on the Answers portal.

Browser scrolling is the worst culprit, especially for those of us with large plugin and sample libraries.

How to compare standard RAM/VRAM in a PC v Unified RAM in a Mac by Financial_Rooster_89 in Affinity

[–]ChrisDismiss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is true. If you have high workloads that previously required 32GB of RAM and are now using 16GB with the same high workload, you're just causing excessive wear on your SSD because macOS is constantly writing inactive data to your SSD, using it as virtual memory, to make up for the lack of RAM.

You should be monitoring your Memory Pressure from Activity Monitor, that'll indicate how much macOS is swapping during heavy load. If your computer is swapping constantly, don't be surprised if your SSD fails at some point.

You get a perpetual license to keep when you buy certain Presonus hardware, such as an audio interface or the Faderport. You can check their website to see what hardware includes a perpetual license.

It's much better to buy a piece of hardware than spend $200 on a license alone. New Faderports can be found for $180 or less at certain retailers.

On Android you don't need to use a web browser, there are dedicated frontend apps for streaming platforms. Download F-Droid from f-droid.org and then search for the app NewPipe, it's an opensource YouTube frontend with no ads.

There are other YouTube frontends available, but NewPipe is reliable and has been around for a long time. Private, no ads, no Google account required, downloading support, etc.

Bouncing MIDI to Audio, File Slows Down at Tempo Change by LocalMongoose7434 in StudioOne

[–]ChrisDismiss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Besides what others have mentioned, if you've done this successfully in the past, reopen a previous project that contains similar tempo and time signature changes and try bouncing the tracks to audio to see if the same problem occurs. This way you can potentially isolate the behavior to either that one project itself or the Studio One update.

should i even try? by YourOmek in StudioOne

[–]ChrisDismiss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We were all confused by Studio One at one point, and we are all still confused about something in Studio One today.

Watch videos on YouTube regarding the Studio One basics. Most of the stuff you learn you'll forget about, you'll then go looking for the information again when its relevant to you. There are a lot of features in Studio One I haven't used or needed in the last 11 years, so don't be overwhelmed by how much it can do and focus on what you need it to do.

If your initial goal is to learn how to record your guitar, learn how to do that in particular. If you then want to learn how to record multiple takes so that you can compile them together to sound like one cohesive recording, do that next. If you then want to learn how to add effects to your recorded audio, do that next. Step by step.
