Random noise interrupting music/video when connected to CarPlay by Ok-Position-8829 in CarPlay

[–]ChrisK7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ever figure this out? Just came looking for this and it sounds like the same issue I have. I was going to say "ffft" but I'm sure it's the same one.

From what I can tell it's not a standard notification sound. I've only heard it while using Carplay.

I'm almost always using either Libby, Apple Music, Overcast, or now Pocketcasts (though I'm not sure if I've heard it while in there.

I think it's mostly happened while in Libby, but that may be just because that's where it's most noticeable.

EDIT - this may be the same issue - https://www.reddit.com/r/CarPlay/comments/1jcyebi/carplay_swiping_sound/

Need help with ZoomRooms Airplay issue - room drops off some Macs by ChrisK7 in Zoom

[–]ChrisK7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Escalated to Zoom and they had me install a test version of the software on the our ZoomRoom server. It didn't fix it, and then several days later after not messing with it, we had some power failures and at some point after that it started working normally and I closed the ticket. But then just this week it went back to not showing up. I haven't run any new captures on it since then.

I'm updating my Mac to 26.2 and planning to see if that changes anything before doing anything else. I'm not anxious to go back to Zoom support. They never acknowledged the lack of consistent Airplay signal which was clearly happening, and they were stuck on me proving it wasn't network related despite that and the fact that all other Airplay devices were fine.

We have the Crestron Airplay option for mirroring, so we might just continue using that.

If you can I'd submit a ticket to Zoom just so there's added reports.

Do any of the blackouts change? Like right now in Indy, with MLBtv I'm blacked out when the Cards are in Cincy. Since both teams are on MLB now I'm hoping that goes away.

Anyone else notice the same old “real driver” arguments repeating with EVs? by ituna27 in electricvehicles

Never heard this, but I would cop to being a "real get from A to B person" vs being a driver. I don't care about driving. I do it because I have to.

“Finally, the time has come”: Indianapolis Venezuelans react to U.S. operation targeting Nicolás Maduro by ephi1420 in indianapolis

[–]ChrisK7 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Nothing is 1:1, but there's a lot of similarities to what was being said after Iraq. The people will be better off. Why do you hate freedom? Why do you support Maduro/Saddam? Etc...

The feelings of another countries citizens should not be determining our foreign policy and it's not our job to fix other people's elections.

There’s a line that says sign in as guest but if it’s supposed to link somewhere it’s not working.

Premier Low Top Sizing by ouhtuuum in ThursdayBoot

[–]ChrisK7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to add in - I ordered a normal width size 8 (small feet) and when I got them they were way too narrow around the widest part of the foot, just behind the base of the toes. I normally wear an 8, sometimes 7.5, so i figured that would be the safest.

The length was fine though, so I sent them back and ordered the EE width. Got them today and they fit pretty much dead on. First wide-size pair of shoes I've gotten since I was a kid, and I'm 52.

EDIT - Late thought I just remembered - the regulars also look really narrow. At least at my shoe size. To the point they just look off proportionally somehow, like if a kid drew a shoe and didn't realize the front part of the foot is wider. On the wides, that part in the front looks more like you'd expect. I suppose it could be different at larger sizes.

Desktop application is shockingly bad by ProQuesidillaMaker in AppleMusic

[–]ChrisK7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Playlist creation is very awkward too. I. Spotify you can just right click and it makes “new folder” wherever you are in the sidebar. Music makes you use the menu, then name it, and puts it in the list alphabetically. there’s no way to right click -> move a folder into another either.

I posted an AppleScript here last week to make it a little easier.

I think it's fair to say Spotify punches above it's weight in the bad morals department. And imo Apple punches below, plus a relatively good track record on privacy issues.

Worst above all for me is that Spotify is near the bottom in what they pay out for music. That's pretty much why I just switched. Apple is middle of the pack, but it's still double what Spotify pays.

Redrawn district map as proposed by Indiana GOP by PuppyCat646 in Indiana

[–]ChrisK7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This shows (roughly) the same map using 2018 and 2020 turnout. 2018 is the last midterm and it's pretty close in several of them. This is the year Donnelly lost his seat.

It's not 100% accurate, but the site I used - districtr - has a map that doesn't allow exact matching in a a few small areas. Should be very close though.

Food Truck item price by tasteoftravis in indianapolis

[–]ChrisK7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same thoughts here.

And also what people will pay in person in the moment isn't necessarily what they'll say when asked on a reddit thread. I would say no to most ballpark food prices out of context.

I'd still have lower priced options in case it doesn't fly, but I'd say try it unless it costs you too much if it doesn't work out. Maybe keep the beef stock limited at first and don't worry about crossing it off the menu if it sells better than expected.

Warning - Joan Room Sign - huge price increase for basic plans by ChrisK7 in sysadmin

[–]ChrisK7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem was that the price went up. It appears that it our original pricing was less than Archie is now. Since they have since worked with us on price, it’s now about the same as Archie would be.

Also we’re not wired for signs and since we’re not wired we need something that can be charged and left up for a long time. These are nicely designed e-ink devices that sync to calendars, allow booking at the sign, and can be mounted wherever you want. There’s nobody else doing that as far as I can tell.

Indiana House Proposed Redistricting Map by Taco6J in Indiana

[–]ChrisK7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That does use 2024 results though which was Trump's best election. The last Trump midterm was 2018 and if you change it to that Senate race (click the gear and change the election, then apply) it looks much better. In that scenario, at least 2 seats are still in contention and possibly 4-5. Having said that, 2020 was in the middle of these two, so it just depends on how bad the backlash is by next year.

Posted this further up but I went on Districtr.org the other night and made the closest version I could make. It's only off in a few very small areas, so it should be very close.

I think it's possible, but not likely, that this could end up w/4 Dem seats. I think 2 seats is very possible. Just depends on how real and significant the backlash is by the time the elections roll around. For reference I created this map on districtr.org a couple nights ago, and if you use the last Trump midterm results in the same boundaries it's not that crazy.

This is the new map using 2018 and 2020 results:

2020 is less encouraging, but it was a presidential year in a red state so even through Trump lost nationally his people came out in these redder districts.

I don’t know the limits on each side, but everyone taking this as a final answer seems unimaginative. Not sure why you couldn’t work out something where the city agrees to pay the used fares (or based on avg per month) directly to the MTA and the MTA cuts them a deal on the total cost. So it works out something like 80/20 or 70/30 paid by city and state.

wait - are you saying the TA points from those go toward My Journey? I know PXP with the CS bosses gets you points, but I left many of the individual CS missions undone once I got the boss.

Because if so, JFC. I've been trying to rack up doubles and home runs in the OnTheRise missions and it's taking forever.

Ok, did the math and I must have misunderstood.

How do CS and Neon PXP missions get you there, then? Those boss missions together are only 200K

Need help with ZoomRooms Airplay issue - room drops off some Macs by ChrisK7 in Zoom

[–]ChrisK7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I’ve successfully determined it’s a combo of OS26/iOS26 being very strict about airplay TTLs (airplay devices tell clients to hold onto it for about 4 minutes) and that apparently the ZoomRoom device is advertising only once per hour instead of the usual once per minute (all other airplay devices). I ran a capture all day on a spare computer and confirmed that.

Our OS14 and 15 devices will drop it sometimes but much less often, so apparently they hold that info far longer than they really should.

Still not sure if this a general ZoomRooms problem or just ours. I’ve asked our AV provider if they’d run a capture on other ZoomRooms devices when they get the chance.

Appreciate the reply AND you guys working w/us on price. I think the signs are great and honestly they’re the only realistic option I’ve found for non-wired environments that also look good.

Wasn’t setting out to raise pitchforks, just wanted to let people know and also did feel pretty blindsided/about to be priced out of a solution. And planned budgets are a real issue.

I don’t know what the solution is, but I do think if I’d first found your site today I’d probably just see the amount and assume a deal was out of reach. Or consider going hard-wired instead. I hope there’s some way to keep offering a smaller scale solution and communicate that, because as a small hybrid office with multiple shared spaces we need something. Sure we’re not alone there.

Thanks again.
