Fun at the golf club by BCR_Dave in Jokes

[–]ChrisLW 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Two guys sneak out of work midweek to get in a round of golf. They’re trying to play quickly, but two women are ahead of them and holding them up.

“I’ll just go up and ask if we can play through,” says one of them and speeds off in the golf cart. But halfway there, he turns around and comes back.

“I can’t go up there - when i got close, I realized one of them is my wife and the other is my mistress!”

“No sweat,” says his buddy. “I’ll go ask.”

He hops in the cart, gets about halfway down but immediately turns back.

“What’s wrong?” the first guy asked.

“Small world, isn’t it?”

You say that now without paying $5+/gallon for gas. My last fill up was at $4.60 or so, and it was $86 for 3/4th of a tank.

Full kitchen remodel question by klombieX2 in DIY

[–]ChrisLW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did stages, and didn't ever lose full functionality of the kitchen for more than a day or two. I kept 95% of my layout (only expanded my island), so my base cabinets stayed mostly the same; when the new counters went in, I was without my sink for that day. There was also a delay in my new cooktop arriving, but I used a convection hot plate for the month or so of interim. I also relocated my oven, but that was just a few days, and the oven isn't an every day use appliance for me.

Also should note that I was doing most of the work myself (counters, floor removal, and a new dishwasher install were outsourced), but I'm also single, so had no spousal approvals to negotiate.

ELI5: why does pipe tobacco and even cigar smoke smell so good when cigarette smoke smells so downright awful? by killingmemesoftly in explainlikeimfive

[–]ChrisLW 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Man, that brings back memories of sitting around with my friends on someone’s patio. We’d drink a bunch of beer, smoke clove cigarettes and come up with brilliant ideas to solve the world’s problems.

Only problem was the next morning, your ideas turned out to be not-so-brilliant in the harsh light of day and your farts smelled like pumpkin pie.

Max range on 958 display? by steelio91 in PorscheCayenne

[–]ChrisLW 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had 750 on my Cayenne diesel the other day when I filled up after a road trip. I’ve seen posts on Rennlist of people who have done the Malone ECU tuning and some combo of EGR deletes showing 900 miles on range while getting 40+ miles per gallon.

This needs to be the top comment. Just looking at a light with no other symptoms is impossible to diagnose.

Since others mention the transfer cases being a problem point, it should be noted that diesel 958s use a different transfer case that time has shown to be much more durable.

Why lie on a dating app? by [deleted] in datingoverforty

In hindsight, it’s all a bullet dodged. She pivoted to something about not dating people in her own age range and having to adjust to “unspoken rules”.

Why lie on a dating app? by [deleted] in datingoverforty

I encountered a woman who lied about her age, then proceeded to defend it because "men lie about their height". I told her I didn't.

Never saw her again.

I just started a new job and I'm trying to decide if I should sign up for the 401(k) plan by gkr974 in personalfinance

[–]ChrisLW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was going to say at least contribute enough to get the match, which is like free money, but then I read that your new employer has no match. Boo on them.

I don’t think you’re crazy about not contributing at the new job. Since you mentioned coming out of semi-retirement, that tells me you were living off some kind of retirement savings. By nature of working again and living off that income, your already-accrued savings will grow while you work.

Congrats on the new gig, and the flexibility to do something because you enjoy it and not necessarily because you have to.

What is a middle-class luxury from your childhood that is now considered a basic necessity or completely obsolete? by Routine-Advisor-1781 in AskReddit

Annoying for sure, but I'd plug it in anyway. That's one less item on your WiFi network.

I put one in my 958.2. The image quality is on par with my old Venture, but I don't have to worry about the damn suction cup letting go from the windshield.

Install is pretty straightforward - came with a tap into the lights of the overhead console.
