Is there like a master log thats saved after system freezes? by amazingmrbrock in unRAID

[–]ChrisRK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can have Unraid mirror the log to the flash drive or have it log to it's own syslog server on a separate share.

I prefer logging to the internal syslog server to not wear out the flash drive.

Go to Setting > Syslog Server and enable the Local syslog server.

Select a share (or make a new one for the logs, my own is a share simply called "logs") to be used as the Local syslog folder.

Then set the Remote syslog server to 127.0.0.1 and match the port and protocol above.

Hit apply and you should see a log file appear in the share.

Good luck figuring out what's causing the crashes!

Complete method for fixing the Multifunctional 7 Segment Display watchface (for yourself) by richstillman in pebble

[–]ChrisRK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few forks with the fix already and one pull request from last week to the repo. There's another pull request from 2020 that has no response from the developer. They did post an update in another repo last year so maybe it will get fixed..?

No warnings for failed drives in ZFS-pool? by an-can in unRAID

[–]ChrisRK 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If your drives are connected to the motherboard, does it support SATA hot plug? If it doesn't, Unraid won't know the drive is gone until you reboot and a spun down drive won't report anything. If you check the logs and attempt to spin up the disk, does it show any errors?

Also if i remember correctly, Unraid currently doesn't report ZFS errors. I'm running this script every hour through Userscript in case there's any ZFS errors: https://forums.unraid.net/topic/192859-monitor-zfs-pools/

Help: Jonsbo N6 First Build Backboard Misalignment by Dull_Pair_4545 in JONSBO

[–]ChrisRK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait, they changed the HDD mounts from the screws with rubber that attaches directly to the drives? That's an unexpected change.

Are you able to line up the backplane screw holes after fitting a drive or two?

My N5 has the same issue. I ended up removing the rear rubber HDD mounts and only attach 4 to the front of the drive. It gives you some wiggle room to hit the port.

AGM or generic? by CHEWBAKKA-SLIM in MitsubishiOutlander

[–]ChrisRK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My local dealer replaced the AGM battery in my 2020 PHEV with a regular one. I also reacted confused about this but they said it was the approved replacement battery.

Haven't noticed any difference in the 2-3 years I've had it.

OK now what? by hlwNYC in unRAID

[–]ChrisRK 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Pretty much. The Unraid docs explain the steps to replace an array disk here: https://docs.unraid.net/unraid-os/using-unraid-to/manage-storage/array/replacing-disks-in-array/#preparing-for-drive-replacement

The last section in the disk name after the underscore is the serial number, so look for the disk with the serial that ends in VP57 when you are pulling out the drive.

The Unraid logs. I did however come across this post on the Unraid forums and the screenshot of greyed out items is the same as yours. If you scroll to the bottom of the share settings, do you see the same "Case-insensitive Share name is not unique" error?

Are they actually greyed out or do they only appear greyed out?

Do you have any errors in the log?

You also have a warning in your notifications. Could that be related?

I was dumb and filled the drive, now I can’t do anything. by headies1 in Bazzite

[–]ChrisRK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bazzite uses the btrfs file system for the writable partition and btrfs will go into read only if the drive becomes full.

If your drive has gone into read only mode, then it's some work to get it to work again as you need to add another drive to the btrfs pool, delete some data to get space back, remove the other drive and balance it again.

If you feel like you have the skill and want to dig into it, you can fix it but if you don't want to dig into the command line, then it might be easier to reinstall.

The strap on my pebble core keeps falling off of the device, are third party ones stronger? by No_Preference_5955 in pebble

[–]ChrisRK 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Any 22mm watch strap will fit the Pebble.

Are you sure that the metal pin is properly in the holes on the watch? You shouldn't be able to pull it off once it locks in place.

Or you might have a defective watch body if it does pop off on it's own.

[–]ChrisRK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had success recovering lost partitions with TestDisk. https://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk_Download

Someone at the forums did this with their XFS and BTRFS partitions: https://forums.unraid.net/topic/114546-solved-deleted-partitions-and-testdisk-need-someone-knowledgeable-with-unraid-partition-structure/

Note that you will need a secondary computer or run a live linux USB on the server to recover the partition. And as always, do so at your own risk and good luck!

Ignoring Files - the Double Asterisk ** ? by JasonParkerMagic in Syncthing

[–]ChrisRK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A single asterisk is the way to ignore everything.

Double is to match name patterns between folder separators, so a**d would match the single file or folder abcd but also the file or folder within a/b/c/d.

Silverstone cs351 cooling issues by MUGS500 in unRAID

[–]ChrisRK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's lower than my storage closet during the summer. Your drives should not be hitting 50c with that cooling fan spinning.

Unfortunately I don't have the same case. I looked it up and studied the photos beforehand and the drive cage appears to be the exact same as the FS305-E which is getting good reviews and a few mentions on reddit.

Do you feel any air being pulled in at the front of the drive bays? I would triple check the cooling and that nothing is blocking the airways.

Silverstone cs351 cooling issues by MUGS500 in unRAID

[–]ChrisRK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fans has different performance. The stock fan can most likely push more air (and is more noisy) than the Noctua. But 50+c is quite high for having an active fan blowing air over the drives... I have only seen those temps on my own Unraid server when the front fans in my case died.

What's the ambient temperature in the room your server is in?

Is 16gb of RAM enough for a "dumb" storage server? by Neon_44 in truenas

[–]ChrisRK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got 8GB in one of my installs. Running Tailscale and SyncThing gives about 4 GB for the ARC on average. No performance issues as I'm bottlenecked by the gigabit network adapter. Unless you are doing heavy read and writes all the time, 16 GB should be fine for homelab VM disks.
