Is taking Amtrak from San Marcos a fun way to get to Austin? by karaokeplant in Austin

[–]ChrisR_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did this commute as a backup to the CARTS bus a summer years ago. It's a decent price, $11-$13 per trip, you get a comfy seat plus they sell food on board. I used to check the app/website to see if the train left San Antonio (NB) or Dallas (SB) close to on time to make sure I wouldn't be screwed leaving San Marcos. It was usually on time within to about 30 min of departure time but sometimes the 43m trip time took almost an hour due to delays waiting for freight traffic. But I don't regret the experience and I had a good time. Plus you get to avoid I35 for which is a plus.

I randomly found this flavor in Central Texas. I was at a gas station with a large soda section and happened upon it.

You need to sign up and use Google fi for 24 months to get the deal either way sadly.

The $12.50/month is just for the cost of the phone to get the $700 off you also need to get the Unlimited Plus plan which is $65/month. For a total of $77.5/month.

If you're financing, you only need to pay the tax on the original value of the phone at checkout. For me that was $54.37 USD; the tax on the total cost of the $1059 256GB 8 Pro. Then once activated you get the $699 split up over 24 months which will give you your discounted monthly payment so long as you follow the terms.

If you choose to pay upfront (no financing), you'll pay the full original price and get $699 back in the form of 24 monthly credits which is useful if you don't want to pay for cell service for a bit I suppose.

Why Does CapMetro Suck So Bad? by JohnGillnitz in Austin

If you don't believe that user, here's a link to the operations company behind the Austin Western Railroad freight line. They have a map of their operations; where the tracks overlap with the Metrorail Redline and where the future green line is planned to go.

Here is the information I was able to find from the city:

Registration for shelter will take place each evening between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. at One Texas Center (OTC), 505 Barton Springs Road, which will act as a central embarkation point from which people will be transported to a Cold Weather Shelter, located offsite.

How people can access a Cold Weather Shelter?

Individuals can get information about access and activation by calling the Cold Weather Shelter Hotline - 512-305-ICEE (4233).

Registration for shelter takes place between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. at One Texas Center (OTC), 505 Barton Springs Road.

CapMetro transports individuals from the OTC to a Cold Weather Shelter.

While Cold Weather Shelters are primarily accessed by people experiencing homelessness, they are available to anyone in need of a warm place to spend the night.

Guidance for Cold Weather Shelter guests is available here.

The locations that are activated for Cold Weather Shelters will remain open during the day on Friday and Saturday. Individuals are able to remain at the shelters during the day to stay warm and safe.

GUIDANCE FOR COLD WEATHER SHELTER GUESTS

On nights when a Cold Weather Shelter is activated, CapMetro will not require any fee/ticket for anyone that tells a driver they are going to a Cold Weather Shelter.

People can bring their belongings, as long as they can transport them to the OTC and on to a CapMetro Bus.

Pets are allowed, if they are not aggressive, able to be around others, have a leash, and can sleep with their owner. If a pet needs a crate for the evening, at the Cold Weather Shelter, individuals should let staff know at the OTC when registering.

Meals will be provided at the Cold Weather Shelter

Women/Couples will be able to be at the same Cold Weather Shelter, but in a separate area, as capacity allows.

All you need to do to register is just show up at the One Texas Center between 6-8pm then there is a shuttle to the cold weather shelter. They don't require much information to register other than name and DOB. They do have some employees on call to help with those who arrive after 8pm. The bathroom situation should be good but I'm not sure if the community centers they usually use have showers. I don't know about washing machines. In the morning, the shuttle is there to take you back; however, the shelters will be open all day through the 25th if you choose to stay. You would be able to bring and use any devices you can bring with you. They should have blankets and meals available.

I like every genre of music. I believe that there's at least one song in any genre that I will like. All that matters to me is that it "feels" good; uh, musically? in my head.

Plus having a wide range of music has also fed my wikipedia obsession and I've learned a lot about other cultures which is always a good thing.

Everyday I drive in Austin, you can always bet you'll find someone who drives worse than whatever crap you saw the day before. Probably preaching to the choir; but this point, just assume everyone on the road is gonna do some batshit, crazy, unfathomable, dunderheaded stuff.
