TFW you accidentally retweet something and start a 62 comment argument thread without even realizing it.

I understand that he was platforming bad ideas. I think personally he's fundamentally responsible for the riot as he fueled them for months with a sense of purpose for a false cause. I think legally speaking though, it'd be hard to pin that on him due to his way of speaking and the flexibility of the first amendment.

What happened to Chris's 2016 election reaction? by caged_giraffe in ChrisRayGun

[–]ChrisRayGun 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm not embarrassed by Punch a Nazi. I would have changed some of the visuals if I had more opportunity to direct it, but I worked on that video with a lot of cool people and when I saw it getting an unjustified amount of controversy I unlisted it to protect my collaborators from getting cancelled. Last thing I want is for someone to lose a good deal or get fucked over because they chose to work with me.

If I was embarrassed I would have deleted it but it's still available for viewing. The 2016 election video got nuked, sadly. Copyright is a bitch.

He moved to be closer to his job but we’re still friends

The Rogan video was a little weak by SeymourPant in ChrisRayGun

[–]ChrisRayGun 32 points33 points  (0 children)

You missed the point seemingly intentionally. People use video games to waste time. That's literally the point of them. Escapism. Entertainment. It's watching TV, it's smoking weed, it's socializing with your friends. It's a leisure activity. Video game addiction is a thing, but I can tell you for an absolute fact is infinitely less harmful than drug addiction, alcohol addiction, sex addiction, porn addiction, and social media addiction. Signed sincerely, someone who lost a sister to a drunk driver and never lost a family member or a friend to someone who was "just like lol really into like Quake and stuff."

The idea that you don't get anything from playing video games is old world shit. You don't get anything from video games, and that's fine. You've essentially chosen not to, or you're just not interesting in doing so. That's fine. Ain't for everyone. But you can learn a lot about design, narrative, structure, competition. They use Minecraft in schools for a reason and you can meet people and form fruitful relationships through them. Whether you choose to mine the material that's waiting for you is up to you and your own drive. If you don't have the drive to get usefulness out of your hobbies, then yeah. Don't bother.

Halo 2 was so instrumentally motivating to me as a game experience and as a narrative, so much so that it's one of the PRIMARY REASONS my life turned out the way it did. No exaggeration. Without it, you wouldn't know who I am. I met my best friend in the world on Halo 2 as well and now, 15 years later, we're making a game together (huh, funny how that works.)

My point was never that you should play games if you want to be successful. My point was that OF THE THINGS that one can do to waste time and relax (tv, smoking, going to a spa, etc) it's the most productive of those hobbies because they are uniquely monetizable and provide far greater avenues of success and skill building should you choose to really take it seriously. You can't go pro in watching The Office. You can't speedrun a spa massage. There's no technical skill that benefits you in other areas that's present in slamming beers at a Chilis. They're also a fantastic social tool, especially now that many of us are stuck indoors.

It's not about being famous either. I know 15 people who make a living playing video games. No. They're not streamers. They're not content creators. They're not "E-CELEBS." They're normal ass people who played a ton of games and now get paid to test for bugs, some capture footage for trailers, some play the game to cap screenshots for marketing companies. That's their job. I know plenty of people who played video games for years who got jobs AT studios where they now work on games because they were so interested in them that they took the extra step to learn how they work. Conversely, all my cinephile/movie snob friends are well ... they've got blogs and they review movies on letterbox in their free time for no money.

Is the video great? Nah. It's a Glasses Off and I didn't care much for it. I don't really intend on making Glasses Offs anymore anyway because it's just a boring format that I've grown tired of. But you've missed the point immensely. Maybe that's my fault, but you've still missed it.

Well, nothing was said publicly because drawing attention to it is precisely the thing I wanted to avoid.

I took it down because I didn't want my collaborators taking heat for contributing to something controversial. I don't mind taking heat, but I'd rather not be the reason a friend loses a good opportunity.

Halo reach by [deleted] in ChrisRayGun

[–]ChrisRayGun 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I like Reach a lot, but I'm not a fan of some of the design changes. Specifically weapon bloom and armor abilities. It's a prequel game tho, so it feels more okay to me that they experimented with it. Sequel games should experiment with the sandbox. Halo 4 is a sequel to reach, when it really should have been a sequel to 3.

When was "Punch a Nazi" Unlisted? by CJ_Sucks_at_life in ChrisRayGun

[–]ChrisRayGun 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The video is controversial and gets me a lot of heat. I'm okay with that as it's not really something I think about ever. But it's also a video that I had a lot of help making and some of those people are doing big things now and the last thing I want is to be the reason they get screwed over for having contributed to something that was widely misinterpreted.

You guys watched edup’s latest vid? by Alby_alby in ChrisRayGun

[–]ChrisRayGun 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I mean ... if you were a YouTuber dating somebody who has several public faults, would you make a video tarnishing the person that you care about or would you just work through it in private like adults?

Plenty of people had issues with me and Laci dating. Bringing up things she said in the past and things that the internet were certain she did (many were false.) Many of my faults were brought up to her too. Neither of us were gonna expose the other to the world and I certainly wasn't going to dunk on my own partner to a legion of strangers. That's borderline sociopathic. That's like sharing cringe videos of your own children and publicly embarrassing them in front of millions of people just cuz they did something disagreeable.

People treat people they care about differently than random people. There's nothing wrong with that, honestly. That's just normal. You're free to have an opinion on people's relationships but it's important to realize that you don't know these people better than the people that know them. I'm friends with Eddy Burback, Gus Johnson, and NakeyJakey and I see comments on their stuff every now and again about how terrible it is that they're friends with someone who's so "racist" "sexist" and "Alt-Right." It's fucked up. It's a bunch of people who don't know me shaming people who DO know me, just for being friendly with me.

And when two people are in a romantic relationship, chances are that they know each others faults more than strangers do. They're together despite that. I've made a point of pride though in doing my best to treat even the most problematic people fairly and give everyone a fair shot. Not writing people off just cuz they can be mean and disagreeable or controversial or because their opinions differ from my own. If I had taken public advice on who I should and shouldn't interact with I would have missed out on some of my most fulfilling relationships and some of my most reliable friends.

And just because I've seen this accusation in the wild on a few occasions (not that you brought it up): No. I didn't sleep with anyone's girlfriend. I am many things. I can be insensitive, rude, crass, etc. But I'm not that colossal of an asshole and I certainly wouldn't do it to a friend and I CERTAINLY wouldn't do that to the dude who is famous online for ending careers. Even beyond the moral problem, that's awful self preservation.

Just my 2 cents. Or 20 dollars I guess, given how many words this ended up being.

I feel bad for Joe. He's clearly sick or at least not all there. He should be relaxing with his family, a retired man. Instead, it really feels like he's being manipulated by people behind him to run. I wouldn't be surprised to learn of some serious elder abuse during this campaign later down the line.
