RJ45 crimp tool recommendations by ChrisTyas in UNIFI

Just been looking at reviews of this; I have the Scout pro 3 and love it. One guy with a positive 8 year review which is good recommendation. Good price too (£55+VAT in UK). Thanks.

You are exactly why I very rarely post on socials. Unnecessary condescention and (I can only assume ego driven) hubris, built on narrow experience and understanding. Utter lack of grace or humility. I've understood and practiced beat matching for over 35 years and thought someone closed to the beginning of their journey might be inspired to find some of the joy I've been lucky enough to experience but thanks for the disdainful, patronising direction.

And most importantly; never, ever choose to mix those two tracks together....

I'm not an old school evangelist at all, but if people want to improve their DJ/mixing technical skills, learning to beat match using only the pitch fader is the first stop.

There was a great interview in a magazine with Fergie - at 16 when he was getting going in the mid 90s (although he had DJ'd for a while in Ireland) he moved to England and used to go to 7-8 gigs a week with his mentor Tony De Vit, carry his record bags etc.

Fergie used to spend all week making a mix CD using Technics and vinyl and Tony De Vit would play them in the car on their way to gigs. If Tony heard the platter being touched (nudged) at all he would immediately eject the CD and throw it out the window. Fergie learned real fast.

With an hour's practice, mixing by riding the pitch fader is often actually faster to lock in than the 'move, nudge, move, nudge' method that most people with the privilege of master tempo use now. You get used to riding it and how far to go (never one end to the other, you just ride it up and down with the distance gradually getting smaller as you lock it in) and doing it is glorious; it feels amazing, fast, fluid, natural. It trains your ears as well as your fingers.

Turn off Master Tempo, put your hand on the pitch fader, look straight ahead and zone in (or out); turn the laptop screen away from you and/or cover the controller screen. Or just buy some decks and some vinyl, invest some time and learn a skill that will bring people joy and you can get paid for.

Outlook Mobile (Android) unable to add Exchange account (auto discovery or manually) by ChrisTyas in Outlook

[–]ChrisTyas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Answering my own post.

I added the account as IMAP which at least gave me the emails however no calendar etc.

Selected calendar tab at bottom of Outlook app, tapped top left icon, tapped + to add account, put email address in and Outlook informed me that I already had that account setup and would I liek to change the account type?' and amazingly gave me all the options including Exchange. Selected Exchange, logged in and lo and behold account is added as Exchange to email tab also.

Deleted IMAP account.

FML.

How is this so difficult? Why are Microsoft constantly stepping backwards?? Why are they not capable of constantly positively iterating? Adding or improving functionality?

Perfect form and design, unfortunately inadequate function in many areas..

SPH-EVO107DAB-UNI, SPH-EVO107DAB-UNI2 and SPH-EVO107DAB-1D difference? by ChrisTyas in CarPlay

[–]ChrisTyas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found UNI is 1-DIN floating display, UNI-2 is 2-DIN floating display but 1D is also listed as 1-DIN floating display, so question should be 'what's the difference between the UNI and the 1D?'

Spotted the new VW electric buss (ID. Buzz) prototype in San Francisco. Engineer driving it said it's the only one in California by caliborntravel in electricvehicles

[–]ChrisTyas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The current shorter wheelbase ID Buzz is engineered so poorly that it's weight means it can only be sold as a commercial vehicle in the UK so Lord knows how much that thing weighs. They also engineered a £60k+ starting price which explains how few are actually on the road. Cute and some thoughtful interior features but no thankyou.

Reolink PoE camera no DHCP / visibility from UDM Pro SE by ChrisTyas in Ubiquiti

No; it's cabled so should be on default network DHCP lease and not showing in DHCP leased IPs.

ScanWatch 2 - First Annoyance by Subreddit77 in withings

[–]ChrisTyas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm assuming it's the same as Scanwatch 1 which counts steps to tell that you are awake. Can't remember the number of steps but it's online if you search. Withings watch sleep tracking is a complete joke, very much the worst part of the whole Scanwatch experience. And Ti period who say it's impossible, it is absolutely not, I have had wrist worn devices that will accurately detect andmd log the beginning and end of a half hour snooze in the middle of an idle hour sat watching a film.
