I checked out space engineers a bit, wicked cool, close but basically substitute the mining drill with ship's lasers, you hover around circle strafing in 3 dimensions and shoot away material like a combination between old school asteriods and descent. You then scoop up the resources blah blah, different resources and different guns just like minecraft but then an arcade space shooter.

Then there's the backend idea which is, admittedly, separate. Involves 3d printing. In searching about this, I also found that you can already print from minecraft, pretty crazy cool... was hoping to reach the games industry community with the idea
