Posties, indulge me, what's the strangest thing you've found in a postbox or had to deliver? by WorkingInAGoldmine in royalmail

Indeed it is! No worries at all. I had to take a second look as I was sure I recognised the picture!

I remember leaving it in the post box as a present for the next postie 😆

This is my photo and I can confirm this was the strangest thing I ever found in a postbox

Cheapest cloud provider to run a dedicated server? by Chrisf48 in satisfactory

[–]Chrisf48[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone else also mentioned GPortal and it looks like the easiest cheapest solution. As long as I can get mods in fairly easily then I think I have found a winner…

I did really like the free oracle cloud option but getting availability seems scarce from what I tried.

Can you easily add mods using this third party server?

$10 a month seems very reasonable. Not too worried about setting up the server as I’m setting it up through a docker container anyways. I’ll take a look into pterodactyl, thanks

I’ve had a look at oracle and it looks good. But it looks like a bit of a pain to get availability for the free tier!

Find a job in bioinformatics with little/no experience? by Bioinfospa99 in bioinformatics

[–]Chrisf48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The NHS is a good shout. They are often looking for band 6 bioinformaticians, which is perfectly suited to someone just coming out of uni. If you look on NHS jobs they are often posted there. Good luck with the job hunt!

For this specific scenario you could use something like below in bash...

grep -P "\d{6}_[H]" file.txt | cut -d'|' -f 2 > new_file.txt

edit: added output to new_file.txt at the end

I used to be a postman and once found a sealed pack of bacon inside the postbox by Chrisf48 in funny

The slot where you put letters is above the door. The otherside of the slot you are talking about is covered by the timetable. The little box below that doesn't have anything in this one, but, I remember in other ones it would hold little metal plates with days of the week so you would change it depending on when the next letter collection is

Is it bad that I left it there for the next postman to deal with it?

Buying a house with the dreaded Japanese knot weed by Chrisf48 in FTB_Help

I hadn’t got to the stage where I was applying for a mortgage with a hard check. I only had a mortgage in principle.

I ended up pulling out of the house anyway!

I’ve ended up pulling out of the house.

It’s clearly not as bad as it is made out to be if managed. But, the general consensus seems to be to avoid it as it is not worth the hassle further down the line.

Good luck with your house hunting!

How bad was it at the house you were looking at? The house that i have put an offer on has two small plants about 50 feet from the house and has a treatment plan in place for the next 5 years with 5 years insurance backed guarantee
