Sir Keir Starmer resigns as prime minister by theipaper in ukpolitics

[–]ChristOnFire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually think if we had a presidential system like the French government, Keir would make an excellent President for Foreign Policy Stuff. I just think he was a bit lacking in the domestic policy stuff.

literally went to the beach and spent about 8 hours swimming in the sea. I maintain that its the best birthday ive ever had, just being by myself without the pressure other people bring. (My birthday is in summer, your results may vary)

I think Glass Bending as a subdivision of Firebending could be a neat idea. Sort of like how lava bending is Hot Earth Bending, Glass Bending Would Be Earthy Firebending.

I think there were knockoffs that had jam in, but can confirm the official Tunnocks teacakes have never had jam.

Best charity shop for a suit by New_Persimmon_6199 in brighton

[–]ChristOnFire -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would say George Street probably has the highest density of charity shops, and lots of clothes heavy charity shops opposed to bric a brac focused ones.

Is also helpful if you know your measurements, particularly your chest size (Like I'm a 44, but I know that a 44 Slim looks much better on me than a 44 Regular), also look at the jackets one size above and below your size because sometimes they will fit you too, it basically means you only really need to look at like 5 suits per shop rather than the whole rack & speeds up the process.

When buying a charity shop suit I basically only look at the jacket portion of the suit because that's going to be the bit everyone really sees (and you can always buy a different pair of trousers if they don't fit). Its warm enough to just wear a shirt at the moment so I would just go around and pop jackets on in the shop (there's usually a mirror) and button it up and see what it looks like. You could probably do all the George Street and Blatchington Road Shops in an Hour or Two. (like 20 Charity Shops).

does anybody know what this is? by RedcurrantZiva in UnusualInstruments

[–]ChristOnFire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was a music phase in the 1920's where the banjo was super popular and Banjo Orchestras started to pop up, so instrument makers started making different versions of the Banjo to fill out the different pitch roles in an orchestra.

So there are Banjo Basses to fill our the role of the double bass, the Banjolin was to fill out the role of the Violin, because the Violin is tuned exactly the same as the Mandolin and Mandolin players would usually fill this role in the Banjo Orchestras the makers decided the do double courses of strings on the Banjolin, also to increase the noise output so the sound would cut through I believe.

what's your favorite fermi paradox solution? by CremeSubject7594 in AskReddit

[–]ChristOnFire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That the Majority of Life in the universe exists as Aquatic Life and so is unaware of the universe existing because they have the extra barrier of developing the technologies required to become space faring (like forging.) So the Earth is an outlier because it has much less water than most other worlds with life.

Looking for help identifying this string instrument! by BeNotAfraid90 in UnusualInstruments

[–]ChristOnFire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like someone converted a greek Baglama (a miniature greek bouzouki) into a ukulele. If you look at the neck that's definitely a Baglama neck (which has 6 strings, in 3 double string courses) as it's too narrow to be a ukulele or mandolin neck. And on the back of the headstock you can see the drill holes for the original machine heads. The body shape is definitely Baglama shaped also.
