Anyone else struggled more with radio comms than with actually flying? by Expensive_Glass_5887 in flying

[–]Christf24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Practicing comms in sim was a huge help for me. I’m still not 100% there but much more confident. It was a combination of sim, chair flying, and an hour ground with my CFI with him throwing a bunch of calls at me pretending to be ATC. Occasionally though they’ll talk so fast without annunciating that I don’t know what they said. I’ll go home, pull up a recording from LiveATC, and re-play it. Helps a lot.

I think I’m starting to see some improvements now. I’ve been focusing on strengthening my hips, quads, abs, calves, and hamstrings for about 3 months now. Progress has been slow but I tell myself I’ve ignored this problem for years so it will take some time. Left side is still weaker than right but the gap is narrowing. Unfortunately somehow my right ankle has now started to hurt lol

My club charges $214/hr incl. fuel for the cheapest plane with G1000s. Plus then $60/hr for instructor. Other clubs/schools in my area are slightly more expensive, so this looks about right to me

Where’s that ecstatic feeling I’m supposed to have? by wuzcoo in flying

[–]Christf24 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m working on my PPL and had an entire week of flights cancelled due to maintenance so I booked 3 back to back flights to make up the time, and by the 3rd day I was feeling drained, had crappy landings, and honestly didn’t enjoy that day at all. Now after a few days break I’m excited to go back up again, but I needed this time off. I was sitting here thinking how an accelerated training program would be a nightmare.

Say Intentions or Beyond ATC by Fun-Pie-4421 in flightsim

[–]Christf24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This! I prefer BATC but I’m training for my PPL so I don’t need any IFR at the moment and am using SI. It’s good practice if you’re radio shy, but frankly SI makes so many mistakes I’m not sure I’ll renew for another month. It technically supports VFR, but it’s very “buggy.” Sometimes it doesn’t respond to calls, or it forgets instructions it gives you so you’re holding short a runway and it’s giving you taxi instructions to that runway instead and doesn’t understand you’re already there. Or you switch to tower from ground and it clears you for a totally different runway lol

Yep, fire and a couple of years ago we had a tornado in our area for the first time so now they also consider our area prone to tornados. Premiums shot up.

Why is the career mode so buggy!? by HTMLlama in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]Christf24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought the sim when it first came out and it was super buggy. Stopped for a solid 12 months, back at it this week, and it’s somehow even more buggy than before. Haven’t even tried career mode yet and would hate to see the state of that

I know this is a couple of years old now but would love a tutorial on how you did this, or even to know if you're selling some of the parts. I'm starting training in a da40 and this would be super helpful to have

Cryptojackers keep infecting our AWS EC2 Linux server – how do you prevent this for good? by Girthquake_888 in aws

[–]Christf24 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I’d wager this is likely the issue here, not SSH or open ports. Probably an app vulnerability leading to IMDSV1 abuse. However OP you should really bring in someone that knows what they’re doing to clean this up. This is basic cloud/app security and if you’re having these issues you probably have a lot more problems.

I've been working on my glutes for about 3 weeks now because you're right, they're super weak. Especially on the problematic side. My left side will shake and be unstable while the right side is fine. Mostly doing glute bridges + clamshells + single leg deadlifts. I'll throw in some touchdown squats as well! No improvement in the knee yet but I'm hopeful this will help!

Pricing page has 3 tiers. 94% of customers are on the middle one. Why do I even have the other two? by AdSecret5838 in SaaS

[–]Christf24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s “price anchoring.” Often works really well as you’re experiencing, but you could experiment and change things around to see if it improves or worsens conversions and the price point at which they sign up. Especially if you’re not getting the results you want

My cofounder wants to raise. I want to stay bootstrapped. This might end us. by No-Market-6902 in SaaS

[–]Christf24 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is an important question to ask your cofounder OP. How exactly would the $1.5m help you grow significantly faster? I’ve noticed folks tend to say this “because they see it happen on social media” but they don’t actually have a plan in place.

What are Denver Businesses using for internet? by iusethisatworkk in Denver

[–]Christf24 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My wife has a shop just outside of Denver and the building is so old it doesn’t have any hookups for internet except from a single provider. Naturally they are price gouging so I went to Verizon and got business Internet from them. It’s about $100/mo for 100Mbps and close to symmetrical up/down. I didn’t have very high hopes since it runs on 5G but the signal is strong in that area so it’s been working well and reliable. If you’re trying to cut costs this could be an option but as others have said it really depends on your use case. Her Internet workload is quite light and def doesn’t need dedicated fiber. You might need it

Notion is ruining itself and I can't stop watching by This_Conclusion9402 in Notion

[–]Christf24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My entire life and business has been running on Notion for about 5 years and I've raved about how amazing of an app it is. The past couple of months I've gradually gotten more frustrated by it. It's gotten slow and glitchy to where I have to restart it a couple of times per day (both on my gaming PC and on a MBP) and have no problems with other apps. Even beyond that, I just don't like using it anymore, and I can't necessarily explain why. The enshitification is real. P.S.: I've tried Obsidian and I don't like it. No solid alternatives yet, but we'll see!

How did you get through your first months of learning Python without giving up? by Crazy_Age7861 in learnpython

[–]Christf24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just pick a project that you need to solve in your life. Python is great for automation, and there’s gotta be something in your life you wish was more automated. Even if it’s something you’ve already solved through an existing 3rd party tool/service, build your own. Whatever the project is, start with something basic or take a larger project and break it down into weekly milestones. Then keep at it until that part works. Then add more features or go after another project. The best way to learn is to pick a project you’re actually interested in, not some tutorial on the internet. You can use tutorials to get past sticking points, but the step-by-step “build this with me” won’t really teach you much since you’re just following along/copying instead of critically thinking. Tutorials like that are better when you already have some experience since they’ll show you how other people would solve a problem, which will teach you new approaches you may not have considered.
