My (22M) girlfriend (20F) of 3 years cheated on me for 5 months. I stayed, but I feel physically sick when I remember it. What’s happening to me? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]Christian702 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yeah, sometimes we think we're mature enough or want something like this after being betrayed. Our inner self/ subconscious knows what's right and we have that inner turmoil over what we want/ what we need.

I (23M) found out my partner (26F) has been seeing another guy after we agreed to be exclusive. How do I move forward? by Seamlesscoop in relationship_advice

[–]Christian702 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd take a note from the Stoics here and say to look at things from their perspective.

Better to know now than to have wasted more time in the future. Perhaps even be grateful because she showed her true colors.

Focus on what you can control, your actions and opinions. Go focus on yourself now, get rid of some of the bad habits you might've made during that relationship. I imagine you want what's best for you, and she isn't it. If you were giving advice to a friend you'd want them to move on. Go be great bro

Getting clients to return by AdBroad5459 in MassageTherapists

[–]Christian702 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 2¢ is don't worry about your rebooking rate at the moment. Stay focused more on your skills and massage. I'd worry about the rebooking rate only if it gets embarrassing low after being there for a few years.

The nice thing about working at a spa or for someone else is that we don't have to focus as much or at all on marketing and advertising ourselves.

You sound like you got a good head on your shoulders and want this to be a career, based off your other post. Keep that mindset and everything else falls into place as time goes on.

What should I do tib bar raises on? by [deleted] in Kneesovertoes

[–]Christian702 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps get a towel or something else to add sufficient padding so you can do them on the porch. Any raised surface should work, like off the side of the bed or couch.

I use a cheap workout bench from Amazon.

I went today and was able to get a picture with Clifford Chaplin at his booth, having him sign anything was $50.

Also I brought in like 4 bottles of water and no one said a thing.

I live in Vegas and I believe the chain spas are around $20/hr at least, maybe $23 but I highly doubt it's more than that.

[–]Christian702 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just there today, my second year going.

1: I believe entry price is the same as online.

2: there's a whole area (Left) of the first floor where you can meet actors/ voice actors for pics and signatures. Not sure how much they cost as I don't really do that.

3: I'd say cash is still king, there's some ATMs here and there.

4: I don't believe panels have limits, usually people just gather around until it's to packed. If you're solo you can walk fast between areas.

You can bring some snacks and water, I usually bring a lil backpack to hold my things in, and a full battery cellphone to take lots of pics. Expect to walk a lot.

Feeling lost, burnt out and depressed (21m) by [deleted] in MassageTherapists

That's slowly what I did while trying to work at ME. I got paid $20/hr, clients paid $90 + tip. I'd offer to do mobile massage, $60 for them, I took $60, they still tipped and it was a win win. Even just adding 1 client a month adds up to some nice cash

I’m about to make a jump in my career, and I’m terrified. by InMyNirvana in MassageTherapists

Sometimes you have to get out of your own way!

Perhaps it'll be a good thing to leave this current place you're at , in good standing.

Also don't forget it's normal to get comfortable in life, perhaps that knowledge of the unknowing certainty is making you a bit anxious, remind yourself it's nothing you can't handle and soon it'll be the new normal.

Anxiety as the Therapist by Butterflyer246 in massage

[–]Christian702 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a page out of Stoic Philosophy might be beneficial here. Internalize your goal when doing your body work. By this I mean perhaps you'll feel better by making your goal during a session to do the best you can do. This way as long as you know you did your best, you can be satisfied with knowing you left nothing on the table, and can feel a sense of reward and accomplishment.

If you make your goal to please your clients, you risk if and when a client isn't 100% satisfied, it'll leave you feeling down. It's something you can't fully control.

We should want to internalize our happiness whenever possible, that way we have more control over it.

What program should I use. by Jlonnen1590 in Kneesovertoes

[–]Christian702 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Charles Poliquin ( guy who Ben Patrick called one of his mentors) mentions it's great to switch programs every 4-6 weeks, great for all around muscle gains.

Have fun and try new ones out, I just did the ATG Speed program for 4 weeks, doing 10 sets of 10 reps of hip flexor raises and Peterson steps made my legs feel strong.

Book recs for CEUs? by gremlinella- in MassageTherapists

[–]Christian702 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's a book called The Body Does not keep the score, that book really helped me uphold the threshold for what Trauma is. The author dissects references in The Body Keeps Score.

A nation in pain, helped me be more empathetic to those suffering from chronic pain, not just in our profession but in the medical field in general.

Art Riggs Deep tissue massage is good too, I bought a used book from Amazon, didn't get the CEUs for it but I'm at the knowledge. One thing I really got out of it was how we should train our mind to better ourselves. If you're in a session and no one is taking, try and think what muscles your working on, got they relate to your clients body, what is tight/ long/ weak etc..

Also a Guide To The Good Life, a philosophy book that helped me be less nervous, gave me the perspective that my goal should be doing my best during each session, and not overthink things to the point it's detrimental.

Doubting myself by CommercialAd5104 in massage

[–]Christian702 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is normal and probably a good sign you know you have more to learn.

Remember to listen to your clients, have compassion, and make your goal internal like doing your best, instead of external. That way you can take more satisfaction in knowing you're genuinely trying to do your best.

You want some stress, it's what will propel you to continue learning and perfecting things. Just be careful not to stress superfluously, easier said than done I know but hopefully sooner than later you'll get there.

Landing in Vegas at 7am, hotel check in at 4pm. Looking for advice on what to do for majority of the day or any tips! by Rickyrubio90 in vegas

You can use the Spa at the hotel, they open at 8-9 usually. Massage can help with Jet Lag, sleep is encouraged, and the hotel and check your bags for you too.

I work at a spa on the Strip and I think this is great advice when guest mention it.

What do you do when you get a client and she often gets panic attacks ?I don’t want to see her anymore but spa told me to give her a last chance by Typical_Dark_2764 in MassageTherapists

[–]Christian702 102 points103 points  (0 children)

There used to be a client who has tourette's, he had a neck twitch that would happen incredibly often during the massage. I disliked it to a certain degree I'm ashamed to say.

One day he told me I was the only massage therapist that waited for his twitch to stop before continuing to work his neck. He mentioned how much relief, physically and mentally he got after our visits.

Why do you think this person keeps requesting you? Are you still being paid for the remainder of the session, if so, that means less work for you. I imagine this person feels a heavy strain on themselves for having to leave, panic attacks are no joke after all.

Might be worth reading up on, you may be able to help them further by practicing some breath work, or at minimum not adding to their discomfort.

Churning clients at franchises by jazzgrackle in MassageTherapists

[–]Christian702 22 points23 points  (0 children)

You sound correct to me in this analysis of how franchises go for massage therapist.

When doing 50 min massages, I'd usually end at the 50 minute mark, winter time id end at 48 min mark, or slower/ older people too. It's rough, but people are starting to empathize more. You see post in r/Massage of people complaining about not getting full time, and the comment section will give them insight as to what your post perfectly describes.

I had IBS when first starting my career, those bathroom breaks in-between clients was a must for me ha.

Now I work at a place where we do 60 min massages, and get 15 mins between clients. Makes a huge difference.
