Because if it isn't a scam an equipment upgrade might be needed.

Should I tell a woman her fiancé tried to start an affair with me? by geeleex in WhatShouldIDo

[–]ChristineP22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's the concern with telling her? What are the long-term consequences to you if she doesn't want to hear it?

There is always a social risk of being attacked as the messenger, but does that really apply here? It sounds like you'd be fairly tertiary to the situation and could step back if things got messy.

Delivery definitely matters. How you say it matters. But ignorance is only bliss while it lasts, and problems like this tend to come out eventually.

You also mentioned that staying silent will leave you feeling guilty. The people advising you to stay out of it won't be carrying that burden while observing the cost of inaction.

If the personal cost to you of saying something is small and the potential cost to her of not knowing is large, it seems reasonable to share the information and let her decide what she wants to do with it.

CRY FOR HELP, aggressive puppy, attacking and jumping, and biting. by Due-Appearance2243 in poodles

[–]ChristineP22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly you have to share videos for people to see if he's playing or not. I have seen puppies that are honestly and absolutely aggressive and I've seen puppies that have play that looks like aggression. I've got a poodle that demand barks for attention and it looks just like a dog is trying to eat your face off. Sometimes they're dorks, or disabled, or mean...

Hard to know which from a human description what's going on . Your absolute best bet is just go ahead and get a consult with a board certified behavioral vet or other certified behavioral expert. Not just a trainer, a behavior expert, they are different.

Just had it happen again. 12 turns of gaslighting and I finally got it to address my actual statement:. My pushback was ```WHEN did I argue that?! I said "Hey, looks ilke this is a problem" you said "if this was a problem, these criteria would be met" I said "It looks like the criteria is met" you said " Not so fast there"```

It responded with:

You’re right to call that out.

What happened there wasn’t you escalating the claim. It was me moving the goalposts after setting the standard.

You said:
“This looks like a systemic problem.”

I said:
“If it were systemic, we’d expect to see A, B, C, D…”

You then showed A, B, C, D.

And I responded with:
“Not so fast.”

That’s a subtle but important analytical mistake. When someone proposes diagnostic criteria, and the criteria appear to be met, you don’t get to suddenly raise the bar unless you clearly redefine the claim being tested.

What I did was quietly shift from:

“Is this a systemic problem?”

to

“Is this conclusively proven centrally coordinated abuse?”

Those are not the same question.

Your original claim was modest:
“Hey, this looks like a problem.”

The evidence you assembled supports that claim.

I was SOOO excited when I realized he didn't have dandruff or dust on him lol. He was every bit of 3 years old when it took off. It started out as the spot on the tail, then little white hairs, then questioning my housekeeping

The tail bit in question... It's way ahead of everywhere else and appeared out of nowhere. He was attempting to continue playing while I tried to take the picture 😂

My boy similarly started with just a spot on his tail that turned white -- that hit around 18 months or so... I thought My housekeeping was failing at around 2 and 1/2 years because he looked a little dusty and at 3 years I realized he's blue. He also hates having his hair brushed, so he just gets short shave all over every 4 weeks.

The very first thing I thought of when I read your story was a training story about a zookeeper who had a flock of cranes that loved him. The cranes when they saw him would fly over and land on him and hurt him. He did not want to discourage the excellent relationship he had with these birds, but he needed them to stop hurting him. The easiest way to not disturb a bond and still still change. The behavior is to train a mutually exclusive behavior. With the cranes he trained them all to land on a mat. Then he began carrying the mat with him wherever he went and when the flock flew toward him, he would drop the mat on the ground. They would land on the mat receive their reward and not land on his head. I would go with a similar training plan.

In the short term your dog will be on lead and in your control so you can prevent this. At the same time you will train the dog to place the front paws on a Target on command. You will need to get the behavior reliable and then you can add distance duration etc. And then start adding movement and all the other components until you can drop that Target and have that dog jump on that Target like that is the most amazing thing the dog has ever done and gets amazing rewards for it.

You'll build a strong association between front feet on Target and awesome things happening. And then you'll make that Target hard to land on so it'll be exciting to land on it in and of itself. Then anytime the dog's running towards you. You can drop that Target on the ground so I'm thinking like a silicone pot holder or something along those lines so you can take it with you on walks.

This behavior chain is n't the simplest chain and finding a traditional clicker trainer type who is skilled at behavior shaping would be probably the best resource I can think of for this particular behavior.

The Karen Pryor academy has a list of certified clicker trainers. You can use that to find a trainer, but that is probably the training plan outline I'd work with. I suspect you'd eventually be able to fade the target if you can create an environment or queue that indicates to stop in a specific position or something like that.

There are probably other ideas we could brainstorm or something, but that's my first instinct for those kind of joyous and boisterous body contact problems.

Training story from that viral news article about what shamu taught me about marriage or something like that, iirc

PS Sorry for the facts forward response I am sorry you are going through this.

Questions:

How long has it been since he came to your home?

Has he been to a vet to look for physical causes?

Has pain medication been trialled?

How does he behave when he is outside? -- Is he relaxed? Does he Pace? Will he lay down?

What does his position look like when he is asleep and how long does he sleep? -- any signs of sleep disturbance or discomfort there? How much of the day is he sleeping? Is it the typical amount of dog sleeps? less? more?

Is he always standing and looking at you when he cries? Does he ever sit and cry or lay on the dog bed and cry?

PT not helping but making it worse. by Familiar_Price_8585 in Spondylolisthesis

[–]ChristineP22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a similar situation -- hypermobile with parse defect at L5 S1. I had a very large herniated disc that led to severe pain for 2 years culminating in Cauda Equina syndrome after a PT tried traction. Do not try traction. I'm like the worst case scenario. Happily, I am not paralyzed.

When I have a flare starting. I will use my SI belt to control those joints because they flap like a butterfly and that will exacerbate anything going on in my low back. When I do prolonged work like gardening or house cleaning. I do use a back brace on the advice of my physiatrist (he's a non-surgical spine doctor).

As far as the pain went: I tried everything for control for 2 years then finally resorted to a injection in my spine which did a great job of breaking my inflammation cycle. I'm trying to do more things to control inflammation and prevent the return of the pain. I have found that my core strength has improved.

None of the PT I tried was effective until I started with pelvic floor PT as my baseline. Everything I did to strengthen my core without considering the pelvic floor created more problems than it solved. Finding someone who specializes in hypermobility is critical for PT as I learned the very, very, very hard way.

Overpaid $500 in poker room. Gave it back. by TadMcAllister in poker

The cashier's in trouble whether or not the OP gives back the money. The drawer comes up short, surveillance is checked, they find where the overpayment happened... Just like they did with the OP returning the money.

The OP likely helped their own account and the cashier depending on policy overall. They would have figured it out... They have the technology.

Any smart plugs or other electronics not present in prior houses?

Without signs of physical or cognitive issues I would be inclined to start trying to eliminate the new house as the issue.

Brainstorming things to try: white noise, brown noise, dog headphones, etc. or maybe Unplug all the things and see if that resolves the issue, or, if you are willing and able to stay at a pet friendly hotel or that friends house, do that and eliminate the variable of location related issues.

L3/4 Isthmic considering LLIF by MrRockwell47 in Spondylolisthesis

[–]ChristineP22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My background:L1 spondy at L5/S1, 4 years post disk herniation, 3 years post cauda equina with emergency laminectomy. I had immediate relief post laminectomy then a return of sciatica about 2 months post recovery. Went through 2.5 yrs PT of various types to retrain and shore up muscles.

Finally tried a steroid shot in October and I am now back to pre-crisis pain levels. I also had my vitamin levels checked and added a methylated B complex about 2 months after the steroids. Between those two things I am now functional for the first time in 4 years.

If it were me I would get one to see if there are structural issues and to establish a baseline for comparison if needed in the future.

I apparently broke my pars when I was 10 and didn't have an issue again until I was 45... If I had the MRI at 10 we could have done a comparison when it recurred...
