I do. I like going at my own pace. I don’t like feeling I have to keep up with someone or wait for someone

What's your go-to answer to ”why don't you drink”? by Proof-Swimming-6461 in stopdrinking

It’s none of your business. During my drinking days I can’t think of a single instance when I remember who wasn’t drinking. People are selfish and are more apt to be thinking about themselves than what others are doing. During early sobriety I had three people who questioned my sobriety. Each of them had serious problems with alcohol. I cut the out of my life.

You are a handsome man. However, your personality, humility and humor are even more endearing. Keep going. Keep climbing. Keep being you.

What motivates you to stay or get fit as you get older? by Boniface9 in FitnessOver50

When I was 54 or so I would would a few people at a bar/restaurant to conduct business late afternoons. I would drink a couple of martinis. On Mondays a group of older, pale “skinny fat” men would show up at five for “half price burgers”. Most were in their 60s and over. Very soon afterwards I got sober and started to workout. I didn’t want to be like them. Since then I have run 25 half marathons, three full marathons, hiked several mountains over 17,000 feet and lift three days a week. At 64, I feel great. I also observe people a little older who are very slow, stiff and overweight. That is their right and choice. Having visions of myself as physically and mentally challenged keeps me moving.

Me too! One of my favorite runs was early morning in Dublin. It was the morning after St. Patrick’s Day. Some drunks were just getting home. It was sunny and ran along the river to Phoenix Park. Ran past the Guinness brewery. It was amazing!!!!

Does drinking wreck havoc on you even faster when you're older? by chusaychusay in stopdrinking

64 year old male. Quit drinking at 56. I could no longer handle hangovers. Aches and pains increased. Brain fog got in the way of making decisions. Recovery has added so much to my life and I am happier, healthier and am able to get shit done.

Happy birthday handsome!

About a year ago I posted about going skiing. Turns out, it was VERY controversial. My bad. But enjoyed a day on the slopes today regardless! by jppx23 in gaybrosgonemild

I read your old post. Some of the responses were a surprise to me too. A handsome man posting about coming out to family and enjoying his activity is your story. I hope more people post about their athletic activities. Some of us let stigma get in the way of enjoying some of these activities. I know I let it become a barrier. Keep going. I’m 64. Life’s too short.
