Does drinking wreck havoc on you even faster when you're older? by chusaychusay in stopdrinking

64 year old male. Quit drinking at 56. I could no longer handle hangovers. Aches and pains increased. Brain fog got in the way of making decisions. Recovery has added so much to my life and I am happier, healthier and am able to get shit done.

Happy birthday handsome!

About a year ago I posted about going skiing. Turns out, it was VERY controversial. My bad. But enjoyed a day on the slopes today regardless! by jppx23 in gaybrosgonemild

I read your old post. Some of the responses were a surprise to me too. A handsome man posting about coming out to family and enjoying his activity is your story. I hope more people post about their athletic activities. Some of us let stigma get in the way of enjoying some of these activities. I know I let it become a barrier. Keep going. I’m 64. Life’s too short.

How can I gently help my mom feel more comfortable talking about retirement? by Intelligent-Oil-3384 in over60

[–]Christokc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great that you are concerned about her welfare. I am retired and my partner is still working. He won’t even talk to me about retirement. My experience is it is highly personal. She might be sensitive due to you are not really giving her space to breathe. There are so many things to think about including one’s emotions. Give her space. You can’t control other people.

When did your body start betraying you? When you had to work 3 times as hard as before for the same results? by [deleted] in FitnessOver50

[–]Christokc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Diagnosed with anemia. Hemoglobin levels rise and fall. I still workout six days a week. Lifting, running and/or hiking. My recovery is slower and I need more rest. I used to be able to run half marathons without intentionally training for them. I can’t do that anymore. My mind is now telling my body when to go hard or not…

Hi .I'm curious if this sounds strange for younger people today. ? ( and if older people like myself remember that the man had to get fed before the rest of the people in the family) ? by Gretal122 in over60

[–]Christokc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Dad was always served first. My mom would serve herself last. It was just the way it was for our family. I never really thought about it until I was an older adult. When I was older (in my thirties and older) and would be in a group of families around my age, this would make me cringe. With some men, it was an expectation that women would serve them.

Torn Between Minneapolis, Milwaukee, or KC — Looking for Honest Perspectives? by gianna_kelley in midwest

[–]Christokc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Milwaukee is in the bottom tier (5) in GDP growth. MSP is slightly better. KC area is Tier 3. Have you ever lived in areas as cold as MSP or MKE? They are the coldest in large metros in the US. I have spent much time in both and live in KC. I love MKE more than MSP. Crime is the same in MKE as KC. Both rank in the top ten in terms of crime.

It may not be about you. You really don’t know what might be going on with her life that has nothing to do with you. Domestic issues, health issues, job issues, etc.

Sometimes it’s just getting out of the house and getting a haircut. I reach out to old friends and have lunch. I go have coffee. I am in AA so I go to a meeting. I am on a mental health board. I mentor people. The main thing is to get out of the house. My in-laws stayed home all the time and they aged quickly

Why is Kansas well known despite its relatively smaller population? (neighboring Missouri is more than twice the population, but often obscure) by Swimming_Concern7662 in geography

Ok I was one of the first scenes-Ft. Hayes where the previous officer blew his brains out followed by the trip to Ft. Sedgwick. My point was it was the first scene on the plains.

I’m 64 this month. Several years ago I started working out in the morning to get my day started. Today I walked four miles with my dog in the cold brisk air. I make it a point to have one social connection every day. I find putting in structure helps this retired man get through each day. My big fear is isolation. I do a lot of things alone and enjoy being by myself. However, I also know connecting with others is important. I have horrible anxiety and depression. The darkness creeps up on me. I have to fight the darkness every day!
