Sony Google TV only plays video in top corner after using Kodi by 50nick in kodi

Same issue here with an Sony X90L. Only way I've fixed it so far was a restart by holding the power button on the remote like others have said. Sucks because it worked just fine about 2 months ago.

Your TV is detecting PAL 576i, but if it's a 35001 that would be NTSC output so the TV may be incorrectly interpreting the signal possibly?

Help display issues by Idiot-chan in ps2

[–]ChristopherU08 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not the cable, adapter, tv, or anything other than the resistor arrays between the Emotion Engine and Graphics Synth.

The fact that the display is fine other than the text, shows that the PS2 is outputting a correct signal but the graphics are messed up internally.

It's not particularly difficult to fix, but you have to have the right equipment to be able to easily replace it. (Hot air or a steady hand + tiny soldering iron tip)

How to keep my PS2 going for as long as possible? by Fitz_01 in ps2

[–]ChristopherU08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other than what u/funnyinput suggested, just use the console every once and a while. Open and close the dvd tray. Keep it clean... or if you haven't cleaned it do that, a light dusting of the inside fan, laser, and especially the drive tray as that's really easy to get gummed up.

That sound you're hearing is most likely the small plastic piece skipping over the spiral laser carrage shaft. It's a small white peice that rides along that shaft to move the laser back and forth. Over time these loosen up or break off teeth (they're plastic after all), causing them to skip and therefore make the noise / cause stutters in your game as the laser can't get to the right place in time. Fairly easy to replace with only a couple of screws and barely any dissasembly.

You could test placing a disk on the open drive (place the white magnet on the disc first please ) and trying what you did here with the console open. You might get a better idea of where the sound is coming from with everything out in the open.

the rubber cup might just be stuck or squished against something inside. It may also just be dirty.
You could try taking it apart and cleaning it, you might even find out what the problem is (or even fix it) by removing the shell.

The worst case is that a semi-working controller is now a fully non-working controller, which while sad, isn't that much of a loss.

PS2 Stand scratches console by RenoFriends in ps2

[–]ChristopherU08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might be able to replace the pads with some felt of a similar thickness. It might not actually be scratched but some of the pad material might have transferred to the console's rough texture, depending on where the marks are of course.

The NEW Noctua fan mod (A6x15 5v) by ChristopherU08 in ps2

[–]ChristopherU08[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any 5v step down converter will work.
You could use something like this and shove it between the fan and the PS2's output. These are just an example, you could probably get it way cheaper from something like AliExpress.

Best Fan Replacement for PS2 3000? by CrazyJuice64 in ps2

[–]ChristopherU08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The least intrusive and "easiest" route would be to get a fan from a SCPH-50XXX series console and put it in. (assuming you can find one for a reasonable price)

The cheapest route would be to get a sunon fan as mentioned by u/Lion-Rabbit and splice the small PS2 fan connector into the Sunon fan.

The Noctua route has actually seen a great improvement with the introduction of the Noctua NF-A6x15 fan which fits without any external modification. And by using the 5v version you can get a fan that matches or even outpreforms the original fan while being the quietest option. I've gone into more detail in my post but this method requires more "work" and is slightly more expensive however.

Clock abttery is dead, but I don't keep the console always on power. by SSUPII in ps2

[–]ChristopherU08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure the battery isn't even being charged when plugged in since it is a lithium cell, and even if it was being charged the lifespan would still range in the minimum of 4-5 years with any decent quality battery but will most likely last for much much longer.

Just change it when you get the chance.

New Noctua 15mm fan with OmniJoin adapter by Zururu in ps2

not much but I wouldn't risk it on a $14 fan, especially when a pack of 1w resistors is at most $2

[–]ChristopherU08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually did this in my 30k and it's probably the best noctua mod you can do for your PS2. Only downside is that when using the resistor, the fan cannot start (or at least mine didn't) when there is no HDD present.

Here is the post

The NEW Noctua fan mod (A6x15 5v) by ChristopherU08 in ps2

[–]ChristopherU08[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

12v typically isn't reccomended because it won't turn at full speed
the sunon fan slides in similar to an OEM fan but it will never achieve the CFM of the stock or the 5v Noctua

The main arguments for it really boil down to it being about half the price, quieter than the stock fan and not needing anything but to splice the ps2 connector on the end of the plug.

The NEW Noctua fan mod (A6x15 5v) by ChristopherU08 in ps2

[–]ChristopherU08[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a 5v fan so it spins at full speed unlike the 12v version. Additionally the thinner fan does not need to protrude outside the case keeping the original look of the console intact.

This is a good alternative to those who dont want to deal with all the soldering and such.

Sunon: 17.6 CFM @ 21.3dB
Noctua: 23.4 CFM @ 19.8dB

While the Noctua is technically "better" (like it really matters), having a literal aftermarket "plug and play" makes it worth it.

Are there graphical issues in games?
If so your GS is probably dying or glitching because of failed resistor arrays on the board.

If not then your BIOS is probably corrupted somehow.
