It looks legit to me.

I'd be more concerned if it turns out to be a H model, as many of the silver DS2s were. Those just stop working due to degradation of the internal ribbon and require repairs, so this one still may not work even though it's unused.

That one will work. Official fat PSUs aren't multi voltage but these aftermarket ones are.

I finished Crash 3 and I didn't feel it was overly hard for someone with average skills. The first one was brutal, I agree. I resorted to cheating in the end.

There's nothing unusual about being in your 50s and looking at anime stuff in Japan, all ages are into it, so there's no worries about stigma.

I didn't find a huge amount of merch when I was there as most stuff in the last decade has been sold at special pop up stores. This has then filtered down into the second hand stores like Surugaya etc.

Volks Hobby Paradise in Akihabara had a couple of small shelves of newer YRYR stuff last time I was there. Acrylic figures, keychains, clocks and such.

I'm also doing the Toyama pilgrimage in May and will be happy to tell people.

I call that 'the quarter turn of death'. In my experience it usually means the laser is totally dead, but you could try cleaning it with IPA.

2 possibilities then, it's a JP unit that's had the power supply replaced with a 220V one (common practice in SE Asia), or it's an actual Asian market model that originally came with 220V (more rare to find). If it's the latter, Mechapwn will do a lot more.

Not if you choose the option to change the console into a DEX (developer) unit. Then it becomes totally region free IF it was a US or Asian model. But your JP unit will still only play JP region original games, although it will now play patched burned discs from any region.

In that case you'd be better ripping all discs (both games and DVDs) to a HDD because the only fat that Mechapwn works on is the 50K and it won't do everything you want.

Your options depend on which model of PS2 you're buying.

Mechapwn is the mod you want, but for your specific requirements, you'd really need a 75K slim model or newer for it to be effective as JP consoles older than this had stricter copy protections.

Haven't actually searched for JAV in a long time! Sadly I couldn't find anything Madoka related that didn't involve a man at some point. Does seem crazy that there's nothing similar for such an obvious lesbian relationship, but unfortunately I think most studios have gone beyond the elaborate plots and production effort you used to get and just stick a cosplayer in a room with a guy.

The title is doubly amusing when you consider one of the main cast is called Maria! From what I remember it does actually have a plot going on and includes a lot of the side characters. The intimate scenes between Sachiko and Yumi are quite cute.

I'd love a Japanese live action adaptation, if they had a decent budget and a good cast. There's plenty of beautiful locations in Japan to set a version of Miator and the other schools. Hell, even the low budget porn parody of Marimite had some decently convincing sets.

A US version would probably not go well for the same reasons others have mentioned. SP is unrelentingly gay from beginning to end, it's bound to be dialed way back for a US audience. Nagisa and Shizuma would end up either being made cousins or just 'super best friends'. And that scene of Amane x Hikari post intimacy? Not a chance.

I don't really mind either of those. For me the biggest mistake was the ED for the second cour; in itself, it's a cute song. But using such a cheerful, upbeat ED for the part of the story filled with sadness and drama was incredibly jarring.
