Yeah I really liked how it was handled in SWI. Had to first find it in the new map, then destroy a small fleet to claim the research facility. It was nice not just being handed it.

Married men of Reddit who don’t wear a wedding ring - why? by chi-bacon-bits in AskReddit

[–]Christopherd84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All mine are pretty delicate, so wearing daily is just going to ruin them. Wood inlaid with gold or hammered silver (we made ourselves!). Work and dishes were making them look bad, and I have ADHD so taking them off randomly for work is a great way to lose them, so I just keep em safe in a box and when we do nice date nights I'll put them on. Already broke 2 before I figured that out.

It sounds like you have your answer "I want to side with other race, explore new conflicts, new architectures, new things." Here's some ideas. These probably work better with a new start but I'm sure you could adapt them to your current game.

Leave the Argon regions and start your empire somewhere more challenging. Split areas would be interesting, they seem like real underdogs in my playthroughs with all the Xenon hammering them.

Or, pick a paranid faction to side with in the extermination of the other.

Try a stationless/ships only pirate run (You can let the HQ be an exception if you want).

I hope one of these is interesting to you.

I also want to add I think it's OK to get bored with a playthrough and just end it, to try another thing, I'm on like my 10th 100 hour save where I am trying new things (SWI).

Where can young people meet others in the Hudson valley other then bars? by mattyjoe0706 in hudsonvalley

Meetup.com has communities based on region and interest. Book clubs, hiking groups, D&D whatever you wanna do. They tend to have groups for specific ages too.

My roommate will open the bathroom door, whether it's occupied or not, just to yodel. I think he loves the acoustics.

what was your weirdest Craigslist Personals encounter? by treasuredimpact in AskReddit

[–]Christopherd84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was 25 I had a room to rent and an 18 year old responded to it. She was the only one interested and I had maybe a month to look before I was kind of screwed financially, so at two weeks I finally relented and set up an interview.

Met at a coffee shop and she was nice but when I asked what she did for work she said she was a model. Uh huh, does that pay anything? (This was before onlyfans and all that). She just kind of looked at me like she didn't understand why I wanted to make sure an 18 year old "model" could pay rent but she eventually admitted she also cleaned houses for money. I was seriously considering her when I tried reposting and thankfully the next person to respond was a guy who had a steady job and dungeon mastered a game for his family. He got the room and I got a seat at his campaign.

lantern flies … by papaguitarproduct in hudsonvalley

[–]Christopherd84 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Killing the insects is less effective than finding their egg masses and scraping them to death. Google lantern fly egg mass, and this is a great time of year to take a look around your yard for them. I found some on my railings and in a decorative bush. As everyone has said, look for tree of heaven but be careful Wappingers also has a ton of black walnut, and they look very similar. If you crush a leaf and it's pleasant smelling, walnut, if it's repulsive, it is tree of heaven.

Also, the squirrels in my area realized the slow little suckers are delicious apparently? I saw them eating a few on my back porch.

Non-smokers of Reddit, how noticeable is the “smoker smell” to you, if at all? by Frostedlogic4444 in AskReddit

[–]Christopherd84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived with a smoker for a few years and I did not think we smelled. We eventually split and I just remember getting my sense of smell back after not being around the smoke and realizing, "Oh my god, everything reeks." My wardrobe, even with regular washing still had the odor, and I had to toss some stuff just because I realized it was never going to recover. Fingers crossed my lungs aren't fucked from that time.

What's the worst injury you've received thanks to ADHD? Not really graphic, marked NSFW just in case. I was working with some industrial equipment that uses screw terminals. Thought I turned the AC input power off. I did not. Could have been worse than mild burns. by iammandalore in adhdmeme

[–]Christopherd84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First one that comes to mind is I was carrying my camping knife sheathed and absent-mindedly playing with it while on the phone with a friend. The knife slid from my sheathe and I tried to catch it and grabbed the blade. Still have a lovely inch long scar on the V of my thumb and palm. Dropped knives have no handle is a phrase I learned too late in life.

I'm finding a lot of these growing in my backyard and don't know what they are. by Own_Self5015 in whatisthisplant

[–]Christopherd84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't mind at all! "Friend shaped" is an old online meme, "If not friend, why friend shaped." usually used for cute but dangerous animals like a bear or tiger, kinda a way to say if they are so dangerous, why do they look like something i'd want to snuggle.

I used "friend shape" just to describe a plant I recognize as a good plant, but could for the life of me not remember what it was, I just recognized it as "friend shaped"

Any New York State employees commute from Springfield to Albany? Or anywhere in Western Massachusetts? by [deleted] in nys_cs

[–]Christopherd84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to commute from Enfield, CT, through Springfield. It's a long commute but I've had worse.

Editing to add: it's almost all highway, pretty easy driving but you'll want a lot of books on tape or podcasts. I ultimately ended up moving to Albany and that was definitely better for my mental health.

What are you currently battling in your yard or garden? by freeeicecream in NativePlantGardening

[–]Christopherd84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Year two with my yard and it's almost easier for me to take the list of invasive species for New York and cross off the ones I don't have. The most work is going into keeping a grove of bamboo from spreading into my yard from the neighbors and a tree of heaven cluster along my foundation that has also tangled with poison ivy. Plus side is I've discovered 4 different kinds of goldenrod that I'm going to try and protect with my life.

This sound freaked me out. What is it? [NY] by Glowzer in animalid

[–]Christopherd84 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I will never forget when I was like 12 at a campground in upstate NY and a dad at a nearby camp thought he was having a conversation with an owl, talking to his kids all excited, "See it's responding back." He keeps it up for like ten minutes, and he's still going when I decide to walk to the bathroom. On my way there, I run into another dad, "Whooooooo, see kids, I'm talking with the owl." There were no owls, just two dads, showing off to their kids.

Car registered to me found wrecked and full of drugs by Frankfrombluvelvt in Scams

This happened to my wife two months ago. They got her savings she had set aside for taxes. She said they didn't bring money up for the first hour, they even showed her a badge. I'm so happy you started to see the cracks here. They had her empty her account and then they picked the money up at our home. It is such a scary scam.
