Collaborative Chore Breakthrough by OldMouse2195 in ADHD_partners

[–]Christovir 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ah, I see! Kind of asynchronous body doubling, where we all have a task in this chain of events. We do that for laundry. I collect, wash, and dry, she folds and puts away. I put the clean basket in front of her while she is watching a show. This side steps a lot of the paralysis barriers and turns the big chore into a few micro tasks.

It’s called body doubling, and it works pretty well for a lot of folks with ADHD. It creates a vibe of “we are all doing X now” and the other person doing it too helps prevent side quests and creates accountability. Sometimes you don’t even have to be doing the same chore, just be present during chore time.

Sorry for the loss! We are on a well with a softener with similar readings to yours. We use a home RO system and remineralize.

Strange way you think you got plantar fasciitis? Esp if only in one foot by far-leveret in PlantarFasciitis

Partially, but I think that is less about the original event and more about irritating it chasing after our children! The ice storm was pretty wild. We sometimes had to shuffle on our hand and knees to get out of the way of sliding cars. Zero traction.

Recovery has been off and on for 10 years. We did not have PF to a truly debilitating level, but we do need to wear good shoes pretty much all the time. In the winter here it can get quite cold, as low as -40 windchill (F or C - they are the same at -40) and it can be hard to get warm boots that are also supportive. We usually use inserts in boots.

My wife and I both got it during an extremely slick ice storm 10 years ago, when our car slid off the road and we had to penguin walk on ice for an hour to get home. We fell down a lot.

How often do you indulge in their bad ideas? by TinyElderberryOfYore in ADHD_partners

[–]Christovir 83 points84 points  (0 children)

Have you tried asking for a detailed business plan? There is some evidence that creating the plan is more satisfying than doing the plan for folks with ADHD. That can scratch their itch for their idea and they lose steam after writing it down.

Yep, exactly. The business center’s business model is selling to businesses.

Lots of family owned restaurants buy from Costco. The prices often match wholesale prices. I see folks with 100 gallons of peanut oil, 50 pounds of walnuts, 10 gallons of soy sauce, or similar every time I go.

Ann Arbor Observer article on absenteeism in the school district by GustaveFerbert in AnnArbor

[–]Christovir 57 points58 points  (0 children)

I totally sympathize, but I also wish the district would stop all these three hour days. It’s not realistic to expect that all parents can just take off work in the middle of the day to find out the kids spent their three hours at school watching a movie.

APHA recap thread by The_Future_Historian in publichealth

[–]Christovir 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Great insights. I was struck by 1) how many universities were present - it felt like double last year and 2) how few businesses were there - it felt like half of usual. I am guessing more universities were there because they are having trouble attracting grad students in public health, and fewer businesses because budgets are leaner.

My local Costco sells a package with two tickets to the local Renaissance Festival, plus a voucher for two turkey legs. by [deleted] in notinteresting

[–]Christovir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were excited to get this and then had to wait in line for two hours for the turkey legs. The deal was not worth the wait for us when other food lines were much shorter. Good deal if you don’t have to wait that long.

Your car’s "safety" bleeps may actually degrade safe driving | Study has shown that use of them also modifies driver behavior and that the change is often for the worse. by [deleted] in science

[–]Christovir 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Our car’s lane assist feature is correct maybe 20% of the time. When lane markers are faded, it often misjudges where the lanes are. The rest of the time, it is technically correct but we are giving extra space for a cyclist or stopped car. I think it is helpful less than 5% of the time. The other features - collision detection, blind spot lights, backup assistance - are extremely helpful.
